Peace family,
I humbly admit, when it came to Karrine Steffans, I was one of the main ones listening to her detractors without further investigation. Having never read her books, having never met her, and having never bothered to ask questions, I cheered on the radio DJs and barbershop celebrities as they piled on the insults. I should have known better. As someone who has, in my professional and personal life, also been the victim of twisted half-truths and critics who refuse to tell the whole story, I should have been skeptical of the picture being painted of someone whom so many people (the opinions of most of which I never respected before) seem to hate. I wasn't, and for that, I owe her an apology. So up pops my hometown on Karrine's calendar, and the opportunity to meet her in person finally presents itself. Through the heavy encouragement of someone who's opinion I do respect (she knows who she is), I join the crowd of 150, made modest by the close of a long day at the annual literary festival. After a half hour of anticipation, in walks Ms. Steffans with a smile and a wave, and an aura that made her seem so much larger than her 4'11" petite frame. I was instantly enamored. Some say it was her beauty that clouded my thinking. That would be a fair, though hasty, conclusion. Karrine, no doubt, is extraordinarily beautiful - her flawlessly symmetrical face, adorned by flowing ebony hair, sits atop a perfectly sculpted, golden-hued body. However, it was more than that. Karrine has a way of, even when speaking to a crowd of several, locking into your eyes and communicating everything her well-chosen words cannot. Once we exchanged stares, nothing else needed to be said. She took me into her, and I felt all of her joy, pain, bliss, and sorrow. I now find it impossible to believe anyone who has ever spoken so viscerally about her has ever truly looked into her eyes. After her talk ended (during which she also proved herself more intelligent than her detractors like to admit), I was able to corner her for a more intimate conversation. We exchanged contact information and promises to keep in touch. Never once did I detect a hint of entitlement, bitterness, or elitism. In the days that followed, as I relayed this story to friends and colleagues, almost everyone's first instinct was to find fault with my positive judgment of Karrine. Then, when I pointed out to them that they too fell victim to the half-truths I once believed, the retort was usually, "Well, you can't expect everyone to go out their way to find out what she's really about." To which I answer, I don't. And neither does she (she's no fool; she is well aware of the source of her harshest criticism). All I am saying is I went out my way to find out what she is all about, and I have thus concluded that she is a beautiful person with a beautiful spirit. Boo lovin', G. PS While I welcome reasoned disagreement, needless to say, any comments that attempt to call Karrine out of her name will not be posted.

Peace fam, I case you didn't notice, made a few updates to the page this weekend. First of all, the official release date for American Scholar has been set, September 30, 2008 (at sunset). More details about that coming soon. Also, while we await the upping of the American Scholar singles, I've brought back a couple classic mixtape verses from last year. And finally, check out the new background image, Fear Makes the World Go 'Round, courtesy of the head of RAHM Visuals, E. Arcas.

Peace family. Is it just me, or does it seem like we can't get Barack in office fast enough? This economy is definitely the worst of my adult life. Gas prices are out of control!!! Am I trippin', or did gas go up 10 cents in just the past two days? It seems like everybody is catchin' a brick, but some of us are getting hit harder that others. Unfortunately, a good friend of the RAHM called me up the other night and told me she's having trouble meeting basic needs this month. She was too proud to ask for help, but after talking it over with O, we agreed we had to do something. I was reminded of stories my parents used to tell about the "Rent Parties" they used to throw in the 70s. Basically, when ever a neighbor was having trouble making the rent that month, they'd throw a party. Everyone from the 'hood would come out and kick $3, $4, $5 toward the effort, what ever they had. And although no one individual ever had much, it always seemed to be enough. Nowadays, thanks to the internet, our "hood" is worldwide. So I would like to invite you out to our eRent Party. Click here to order a RAHM Nation CD or two. Some are $5, some are $6, and others are $7. And like the rent parties back in the day, we're not asking for a handout. You're getting the hottest music underground hip-hop has to offer in return. We just hope the situation and the discount might motivate you to cop sooner rather than later. Thanks once again for all the love you've shown over the years. We're stronger together than we are apart. 1, G.
PS Memorial Day moment of slience for my uncle Lester Rodney, Navy, died 2002.

Peace friends & family, I just learned a few hours ago that my man and fellow Elemental Law member Chew passed away this week. The details are still sketchy and I don't want to throw out accusations that I can't back up, so let me just say for now, the police were involved. Chew was a good man, a great emcee, and an excellent father. I first met him back in 2001 through Power and Righteous, Elemental Law founders. I was still in law school at the time, but trying to make a name for myself in this business. E-Law agreed to let me handle some of their marketing and promotion and, upon passing the bar, legal matters. In many respects, they were my first entertainment law clients. They were also the first crew to take me in as an emcee. I came up on the open mic circuit and was admittedly awkward in the studio at first. And although I credit Ohene with helping me prefect my recording methods, it's really E-Law that was ready and willing to put me on way before RAHM Nation. For that, I will always consider myself "E-Law 4 Life." We (Power, Right, Chew, Costa, and I) were suppose to put out an E-Law album in 2006, but I'm sure you can imagine how it is with multiple member groups, all living in different states. We were all suppose to meet up in Philly that summer ... never happened. As time went on, we kinda grew further apart. Some members came and went. A few even spun off their own group, Mob Tied: Maja Threat. But we were all still like brothers. And the brothers are gonna miss you, Chew. To all my other friends, in and outside of E-Law, I sincerely apologize for not doing a better job of keeping in touch. If you need anything, if you wanna come slide down to the crib for a few, work on some music, what ever, call me! If you don't have my number, hit me up on here. To the fans, clients, and fellow artists, I'mma get back with ya'll in a few. But give me a couple days to make sure the brothers are alright. 1 love, G. (A younger Chew) -This was off the dome, forgive me if I rambled or failed to correct any typing errors.

Peace family, I know it's been too long, but the new album is finally slated for release! American Scholar will be available by internet only beginning June 10th. Yes, American Scholar is a play on the title of Jay-Z's last effort, American Gangster. But it is not a dis album or a treatise on street culture. It is, to the contrary, a celebration of Black American academic culture, a culture that is just as vibrant and prevalent in the Black community but scarcely represented. With lead singles "Playoff Beard" and "Penicide" (currently leaked on myspace), this album will explore the intellectual side of hip-hop. So bare with me for one more month while we put on the finishing touches. In the meantime, continue to enjoy The Chancellor and tell a friend to tell a friend - American Scholar June 10th! 1, G. PS The so called analysts said Mavericks will win in 5. Hornets in 5, Bryon Scott - Coach of the Year! Now what?

Peace family, New Orleans just continues to bounce back in all aspects of life. Tonight the Hornets begin their march to the NBA Finals. This has been an amazing season, but it's not over. We gotta strike while the iron is hot - not be satisfied with a franchise regular season-win record, not be satisfied with a Chris Paul MVP, not be satisfied with a Bryon Scott Coach of the Year. Let's take this all the way, baby! So for the rest of the playoffs, I'm not shaving. I also upped a new song called "Playoff Beard" in honor of my Hornets. If you're also from New Orleans or wanna join us in solidarity, feel free to grown a playoff beard too and up the picture. I'll update mind throughout, but don't get too excited! I'm very babyfaced So it ain't gonna grown too long. And by the way, to those that wanna start the "it's just a sports team, New Orleans as real problems" conversation again, let me remind you that New Orleans has a tourism-based economy. So if we don't put on a show, we don't eat. And our sports teams are a big part of that show! Without the Saints and the Hornets keeping our respective stadiums in tip-top shape, there can be no Sugar Bowl, no BCS Bowl, no Final Four, no Super Bowl, no NBA All-Star Game, No Jazz Festival, and no Bayou Classic. Ya' on the dig? Peace & prosperity, G. PS Fans of other teams, my apologies in advance. In the words of Jay-Z, "I wish you a hundred years of success, but it's my time."
