Please stop trying to friend-add me.
I have nothing against your industry and your vaginas look... fine, I guess. But I don't add fictional people (like you, "Rhianna") to my friends list and even if I wanted to add you, I couldn't because when I go to your profile page, it redirects me to a Web page where you and your gal pals who couldn't get extras work or got bumped from an MTV reality show are getting deep-dicked by some Lexington Steele fucker.
While I admire the effort and appreciate the sentiment, it's a waste of my time. So you can go fuck yourself.
Just like you're already doing on your Web page.

A new batch of songs this week, mostly inspired by the incredibly smart purchase of the Gnarls Barkley St. Elsewhere CD. $9.99 at Target? You cannot beat that with a red stick. On to it: 1. Gnarls Barkley - Just a Thought -- The whole CD is great. Not a bad song in the bunch. If you've heard Crazy (which I hope you have), the CD sort of jumps off from there in some even richer and more poppy directions, but in other instances goes the other way and completely blows your mind with razor-cut beats and freakouts. It's one of a handful of CDs that I feel really works in this century where it wouldn't have worked in the last and which points to a future of music where the bounds between electronica, hip-hop, pop, rock, emo and whatever other genres you want to throw out blend together even more tightly. Gnarls Barkley, by the way, is DJ Danger Mouse Cee-Lo (the singer). They make a mean team, like my Adidas. I heard about them during SXSW but had no idea how much I'd grow to love them. They'll be at Austin City Limits fest in September and so will I. 2. DJ Danger Mouse - December 4th -- From the underground, not-sold-in-stores Grey Album, combining The Beatles' White Album with Jay-Z's Black Album. It just works. It works. Amazingly, that whole mashed-up album works. It's just cool to imagine DJ DM mixing this up without any hope of commercial distribution and then building a whole career off it. Well played, Danger Mouse. 3. Gorillaz - Last Living Souls -- Danger Mouse again, producing with Damon Albarn. I thought of this song for this week because of the song The Boogie Monster, which reminds me of this one. Demon Days as an album is so far removed from Gorillaz, yet still of the same piece that you have to love how such a bleak, apocalyptic album could produce a radio-friendly hit like Feel Good Inc. or the song DARE. These guys are on something and it's good shit. 4. Dangerdoom - Benzi Box -- The prelude to Gnarls Barkley featuring MC Doom, DJ Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo. From the Adult Swim-themed The Mouse and the Mask album. Good, nutritious grooves for you. 5. Liz Phair - Dogs of L.A. -- Getting off Danger Mouse (and he's easy to get off with), we come to Liz Phair. I realized recently I'd never put Whip-Smart on the old iTunes/Pod. It was the first album of hers I bought (I own them all) and I listened to it more times than I could say. It's all good, but this song has just been on my mind lately, thinking about the West Coast. 6. Cowboy Junkies - Angel Mine -- I once broke down crying hearing this song while sitting in my car in the middle of a parking lot at a particularly lonely time. It's my favorite Cowboy Junkies song. 7. Tool - Ænema -- Definitely in my top 5 all-time best hard rock songs, along with maybe Iron Man, Metallica's One, Ozzy's Crazy Train and NIN's Mr. Self Destruct. If you've never heard it, clear 10 minutes in your schedule, put on headphones, and listen to it all the way through. It's nihilistically wishing for the end of the world just to get rid of all the jerks and assholes. I can't think of anything more more rock 'n' roll than that. Amazing, amazing song. I'm scared to see these guys live because I think my face would bleed.

I've got new songs on my profile page, but I sort of left something out by accident, so something's going to get bumped and... well... I'm working on fixing it tonight. bear with me, folks.

Do you feel that? A sort of a lull at the top of the hill with a light breeze blowing and sun setting?
MySpace has hit the crest and it's slowing, slowing, slowing down into a site that'll be around a while, but which will never see such quick growth and crazy activity as we saw over the last year.
It was fun while it lasted, huh?

More songs for this week in the jukebox on the profile page. I was so slammed that I didn't have a lot of time to think of a theme or anything. I just scrolled through my 2,000 or so iTunes songs and picked some stuff I like. The White Stripes, "The Same Boy You've Always Known" -- I love rocking out (as much as you can rock out driving a Prius) to White Stripes, and I was going to put one of their harder songs, but I think Jack White is a fantastic songwriter, a musician's musician, and this is maybe my favorite song from White Blood Cells. There are probably better songs on Elephant overall, and maybe on Get Behind Me Satan, but this one always makes me happy when I hear it. The Arcade Fire, "No Cars Go" -- I did my absolute best to try to make sure everyone I know bought a copy of Funeral, but it's too early to tell if that effort was wasted or not. Regardless, this is a song that's not on Funeral, but on the Arcade Fire EP, and it's by far the best song on that mini-disc. I had a really hard time picking a single AF song for the most recent Terribly Happy mix CD because no matter what song you pick, you either give people who've never heard them before the impression that it's a girl lead singer (Regine) or a weird dude lead singer (Win). This song, at least, has them both singing in their awesome harmony. As a friend of mine said, it's a very '80s-sounding song. The lyric, "Between the click of the light and the start of the dream" just gets me. Damn. It got me again just now. The B-52s, "Channel Z" -- I don't know how many times I listened to Cosmic Thing on a worn-out tape as a teen, but it was a lot. There's a lot of songs I like on that album, but this is probably the one I come back to the most. Gotta love Fred Schneider. Aimee Mann, "How Am I Different" -- I'm no authority on Aimee Mann, but my interest in her peaked, like a lot of people, with Bachelor ..2 and the Magnolia soundtrack, a 1-2 punch of musical awesomeness most artists don't get to have in an entire career. They're both great albums, and I probably only picked this song because I was thinking about the Betty LaVette cover version, too. Tori Amos, "Playboy Mommy" -- I had a Tori Amos phase that lasted about 10 years. I met her after a concert once (she gave me a hug, which was awesome) and as her star rose, I kind of lost interest somewhere about To Venus and Back. I still buy her albums (although I missed her last one), more out of obligation than to really listen to. I even own Strange Little Girls, which is, sadly, just not a good album. From the Choirgirl Hotel, though, is terrifically solid and this is probably the best track on it. A girl I knew once cried in front of me listening to it. I've been told I've left a trail of ex-girlfriends as Tori Amos fans. Molotov, "Frijolero" -- This is an awesome Mexican band. I used to hear them compared to Rage Against the Machine, but that comparison forgets what a great sense of humor Molotov has and how much more fun they are. When I pick songs for pre-show music in our LCP shows, I try to get in at least one Molotov song, usually this or "Puto." Solomon Burke, "Don't Give Up On Me" -- I've had two incredible Solomon Burke moments. One was in New York when we got to see a taping of Conan O' Brien's show. Solomon was the musical guest and he sat on his throne and just charmed the pants off all of us. I sought his CD and loved it. Then I got to see him baking in the 100-degree heat at the Austin City Limits Festival with my brother and he again was dazzling and incredible. At ACL, he turned the song into an anti-Bush storytime after bringing audience members on stage. He's just amazing. And the fact that Peter Gallagher mangled it on The O.C. once didn't even ruin the song for me.

New songs are posted in the jukebox on my profile page. Here's the roundup: PJ Harvey, "Down by the Water" -- The name of this song is the name I used for a novel I had been working on for quite a while, something very dark about a child who is attacked and a family that is edging toward breaking apart. I only got about 100 pages into it and I knew that where it was heading was somewhere I wasn't mentally prepared to go at that time. So it's been on the shelf a while. This song never fails to give me chills when I hear it. It's Southern Gothic by way of England and even though it's not my favorite PJ Harvey song (that would be either "The Whores Hustle and the Hustlers Whore" or "Rub it Till it Bleeds,") it certainly is always there, lurking in my head, when I think back to that writing and whether I'll ever get back to finishing it. Chris Isaak, "Forever Blue" -- This song was on pretty constant rotation during a painful breakup right around the time I finished college. The whole CD Forever Blue is like that. Just pathetic "Poor me" songs. "Oh, poor me, I'm Chris Isaak and I broke up with someone and I'm sad even though women are standing in line to polish my rockabilly knob." Yeah, whatever, Chris. But sometimes sad pathetic songs are exactly what you want to hear. Smokey and Miho, "Blue Glasses" -- I'm sort of shocked at how no one I know owns Smokey and Miho's fantastic The Two EPs disc. It's simply fantastic. Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto Smokey Hormel (coolest name ever) doing Brazilian-style songs. One of them, "Ocean in Your Eyes" ended up on the Y Tu Mam Tambin soundtrack. This one's good, too. Go get their CD. I'm serious. Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "Rich" -- I just got their new CD, Show Your Bones, so I don't have an opinion on it yet, but Fever to Tell remains a great album, even apart from the radio-friendly "Maps" and the excellent "Y Control." I picked this song because I love hearing Karen O. growl like that. Damn, woman. Wow. What a great way to start an album. Toadies, "Tyler" -- Not quite as Southern Gothic as "Down by the Water," but close. A love song about a creepy stalker from the stalker's point of view. One of the reasons I like Kelly Clarkson is because Toadies is her favorite band. Just for that she deserved to win Idol. It just occured to me I had a Pixies song that was supposed to be on this list. Oh well. Next time. Radiohead, "How to Disappear Completely (and Never be Found)" -- My love of Radiohead is well documented. I once flew to Toronto to see them. This song was around the pre- Kid A timeframe and the opening of it was used as the outtro to a Latino one-act play a friend of mine directed a while back. This is not the album version -- it's a leaked early studio version that lacks some of the polish of the Kid A track. The song was also in the movie Meeting People is Easy. I have about four versions of this song from various live performances. I like this versionbecause the tail end of the song doesn't go into that orchestral warp that the album version does. "I'm not here / this isn't happening" still gives me goosebumps. John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, "You are Too Beautiful" -- I wanted this song played at my wedding until I realized the lyrics aren't exactly wedding material. Still, it's a gorgeous song. My wife and I picked up this CD together a very long time ago and it's never far from reach. See you next time.

I added a jukebox to my profile page, thanks to a great find from Pendejo Joe. It sits in my little Favorite Music box on the lefthand side and it's small, unobtrusive, and you can set it to not auto-play when someone comes to your page. It also loads songs really fast and is nice-looking. And hey, you can grab it by that tab on the middle-left and drag it around the area. How cool is that? Anyway, I figured I should explain, like I do on the Terribly Happy CD project, why I chose these songs, so here goes: Billie Holiday -- You Go To My Head -- I have a CD of Billie's love songs that I've owned for almost 10 years and it's never left the CD wallet I carry around in my car. They're just gorgeous songs that I love and there are two or three tracks at the start of the CD that never fail to make my heart go purrrrr. Los Amigos Invisibles -- Mujer Poliica -- Great band from Venezuela, especially live. My wife loves them and they're nothing but a party in your ears. I've used them as pre-show/intermission music for LCP shows and people (except cast members who have to hear it a million times) seem to like it. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah -- Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood -- Cool song, very Talking Heads. It's sort of OK when you first hear it, then it's good, then by the fourth or fifth listen, it completely gets in your head and you want to hear it over and over. They worked some crack into that song somehow. Ween -- Buenos Tardes Amigos -- I've been thinking for years I should be listening to more Ween because they seem to rock any genre or approach they tackle. I just think this one's cool, cool, cool. Elastica -- Smile -- Elastica's self-titled album is one of my all-time favorites. Short, awesome, bursty songs that completely rock out. I have their follow-up and it's good, but nothing like this. I had about five great songs I could have picked for this slot from Elastica and I had to just eenie-meenie-miney-moe it. Hope Sandoval and Bavarian Fruit Bread -- Around My Smile -- Hope Sandoval is the voice of Mazzy Star and the CD this comes from is typical Mazzy. Dreamy, hazy, great. I have no idea why Hope Sandoval isn't as famous as, say, Courtney Love. Maybe she should act crazier. Lauryn Hill -- The Sweetest Thing -- A song from the Love Jones soundtrack, I think. Part of my ongoing campaign to want her to follow up The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill or at least give us that new Fugees album already. Do you like breaking our hearts for 10 years like this, Lauryn?

What I said about you soon-to-be-famous musicians and your MySpace adds?
That also goes for you brilliant filmmakers with your no-budget independent movie that's about to take all the major film festivals (and then, of course, the U.S. box office) by storm.
You're going to make it to the top just fine without me.

If you're a band or musician I've never heard of looking to add me to your friend list, sorry that I won't accept.
When I have time, I'll go check out your page and if I'm blown away or I know your drummer or something, I'll add you. But if you just add-spammed me to add to your thousands of current MySpace friends and don't know a thing about me, then don't expect to get an automatic add here. I don't need your ten thousand bulletins about why I should come check out you out at the Duck Pond Inn in Westchester, Penn. I won't be there. Just like I won't be on your friends list.
