yeah, we're playing a show. Should be a shit kicking good time, as we're sharing the bill with Japanese psychedelic rockers DMBQ and Alabama blue noisers The Immortal Lee Co. Killers. It's next Thursday the 24th at The End. Yeah, we know Guitar Wolf is across the street, but you can bounce back and forth. Oh and check out this video: http://www.theexlovers.com/sounds/underthegun.mov

Current mood:Fantastic
Hart and I (Ashford) will be in Charleston this weekend to play our dear pal Kevin Hanley's Chord and Pedal annual holiday charity event. 15 bands, each playing two Christmas-ey songs. We'll join Dustin Fanning and Jack Berg to form Fuck Yeah Voltron. Hoping Jimmy the Ampersand will play keyboards with us as well. Also hoping someone will play that song the snakes sing in that Emmett Otter Jug Band film. So if you're in Charleston or nearby, drop by Cumberland's Saturday for what should be an interesting show. Based on the fun that was had last year, it'll be worth any of your respective five buckses. More details are up at www.chordandpedal.com Thanks to everybody who came by our Christmas party last night. Sorry if I tackled any of you.

What a difference a month makes. Jobs for those who'd left them and for those who did not have them to begin with, became priority numero une. Problem solved for now, hemohrage stopped. You can visit Will at Calypso Cafe and Reba will ring up your holiday liquor supply down the street at Frugal McDougal's. Chris has retreated to the third world island where we hear he is actually king, or prime minister or something. Ashford should soon return from a solo tour no one knew he'd booked. We hear he's been playing the finest youth hostels and treatment centers in the southeast. That leaves me, your humble fine dining server, to hand off copies of our record to Jesse Malin at the Ryan Adams after party, which was held on the third floor of the restaurant where I work. There was a chance we'd open for Reigning Sound at the Basement, but it doesn't look like that show is happening. Too bad, we would have liked that. We've got one of those fantastically artificial white christmas trees with ice blue lights. Set against the backdrop of our 1980s vertical cocaine-white blinds, it's a Xanadu Winter Wonderland. No shows lined up at the moment. In addition to purveying spirits to the material world of Nashville, Rebekah is leaving us to pursue other interests (such as NOT spending three and a half weeks in a van with a bunch of drunken assholes). Those shoes will be hard to fill, as she's a good bass player and there doesn't seem to be a huge supply of tasteful rock players around here. At least who aren't in 14 other bands. Prove us wrong. Reckon that's all for now. Just flipped to side two of Moby Grape '69. 20 Granite Creek is next. Should be having a house party soon, will let you know. Best, Us

Back home again. Thanks to everyone who contributed a floor, a meal or an amplifier. We'll hopefully be getting our proverbial shit together and setting out again before too long.

Played the Halloween party at Easley-McCain Studios on Saturday in Memphis. Got paid in studio hours. Something good should come out of that.
Shared the bill with Jack Oblivian's new outfit the Tearjerkers (featuring three former members of the Compulsive Gamblers). They were terrific.

Side note: The Compulsive Gamblers' live record "Live and Deadly: Memphis-Chicago" is a stunning hunk of rock n roll. It's still in print and well worth whatever your local record shop wants for it.

Many thanks to Michelle Cable. Her friends were fantastic and the shows she booked for us were beyond our best expectations. She's an amazing gal. We're proud to know her.

Keep your eyes out for Shellshag. They'll be in Japan for most of December. Look for them back stateside in the new year.

talk to you soon,
us

Update. It's Friday the 15th and two of us are sitting in our booking agent's bedroom in glorious San Francisco. Hudak is spinning The Hollies and ELO. Will, Reba and Ashford are down at the corner eatery with Shellshag. We've been out over a week, and except for a piano falling on my (Hart's) foot, everything's been pretty smooth sailing. Denton was a most hospitable kickoff show. Justin and Jason and Chris put us up real nice. All the shows have been well attended. Lots of good local bands playing with us, bringing out the kids.
Oakland show tonight. Downtown SF in the Tenderloin's tomorrow. Then it's on up the coast. Eureka, Portland, Olympia, Seattle. Then back east. May have added a Chicago show on the 29th. More to come when we know.

Now playing Thursday October 7 at Rubber Gloves in Denton.
See you all there. Well you, and you, and you, and you, and you, but not you, maybe you; you can come but leave him, you're cool too, and you and you, and not you, of course you, and that's about all..

Charleston and the Lord's burning rain.

Learned many things: When your friend says your guitar is under the stage, remember such info at load out time. When requesting via scream-slur a song with a title that could be interpreted as an insult (like, say, "You Ain't Going Nowhere") in a room full of people who already think you're a bunch of boozed-up dipshits, always preface it with, "Hey, play that song called..." Tequila and orange juice belong together.

Wayne joined us for the trip. Kevin and Joy put us up in style. It was great to see them both. Happy family. Fun having drinks with Kevin and his new band/our old chums the Specs again. The lil' ones were fantastic hostesses/babysitters. Arnold Drummond took terrific care of a hungover Hudak, waiting on him hand and foot. Monkey Ball is a fine Nintendo game. They were surely glad to have a less crowded house on Tuesday.

Bek's band shirts were a hit with the kids. We may live through October.
