Happy New Year comedy lovers! I hope it’s turning out to be everything you’ve ever wanted. That your lives are as quirky and lively as a Gilmore Girls Episode, gonna say – season two.
I’m doing a BUNCH of Dork Forest Podcast’s this week. Gotta catch up on what people are caring about these days. What would Lady Gaga do in such a situation? Would she play Guillotine or Settlers of Cataan? Let’s find out.
Monday - Today – 2pm – www.dorkforestradio.com I’m talking with Zach Sherwin – also known as Mr. Napkins. Yes. He’s a hip hop comic. It feels very spoken word over beats (early hip hop my KRS-ONE fans out there). But he’s funny and we will learn what he’s into today. So tune in LIVE at 2pm Pacific – or subscribe on iTunes. You can listen on the player on my website at any time to current, old or even just click the iTunes icon on the player for easy “get to iTunes” if you’d like. That’s www.jackiekashian.com just so you know.
And – you’ll be happy to know I’ve updated my calendar on my website AND on Myspace. I like to keep up with the band fans. So here’s a couple sets I’m doing around LA this week and next if you’re in LA (or know someone to send to the show. Say Hi by the way. It’s nice to hear from youz).
Tuesday, January 5th 8:00 PM ¤ Jesse Alison Gig at Gyenari (Korean BBQ and donut house) 9540 ..Culver Blvd... ..Culver City.., ..CA.. $5 |
| Thursday, January 7th 8:00 PM ¤ Skinnys on Lankershim ..4923 Lankershim Blvd.. ..North Hollywood.., ..CA.. ..91601.. Free |
| Tuesday, January 12th 8:00 PM ¤ Fake Gallery ..4319 Melrose Ave... ..Los Angeles.., ..CA.. ..90029.. $5 |

In other pleas for attention, if you were thinking about getting my new CD “It Is Never Going to Be Bread” or the new version of the Ranger of the Dork Forest T-shirt – now would be an excellent month. Financially. For me I mean. The CD is hilarious and the new t-shirt design is moments of family fun (unless you’re stoned, then hours can go by). Check out a free track and look at the design here – www.jackiekashian.com/Merch.html
If you want to get more of what’s going on in my head I’m on facebook, twitter, youtube, myspace and now you have my email address. OH – and I just wrote a review of the movie The Fantastic Mr. Fox at the comedy film nerds site - http://comedyfilmnerds.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=193:the-fantastic-mr-fox-review&catid=1:in-theaters&Itemid=33
Take care of each other out there. Jackie
A thousand websites and that’s not even standup websites playing my vids. Yikes.

My first paragraph from www.comedyfilmnerds.com "Wes Anderson has pulled off the slacker move of the decade in making a film that looks like he doesn’t care if you like it or not. But he obviously does. The Fantastic Mr. Fox is a stop-motion animation movie. By definition, if you make such a film, you care. You care deeply. It takes days to set up three minutes of movie. But the feel of the movie is that he’s making it for him. For him and his cool friends who GET IT, man." THE REST OF THE REVIEW
I wanna see It's Complicated. Not becuause of any other reason than i like them two. I just do. it's probably dumb, but my taste in movies is often dumb. ;)
HAPPY NEW YEAR! May it lead to a decade without as much killing and corporate stealing. info for next week's shows upcoming. xo, jackie

I don't care what it cost, it's awesome. It's like Ursula LeGuin, CS Lewis's Space Trilogy and The Dragonriders of PERN got mashed up done for a bazillion dollars with the finest CGI you've ever seen. If you know sci-fi fantasy you weren't surprised too much by the show... but the show is fantastic. I was there to see a story and by-God I got to see that story. It's not complex, it's not more than you think it's going to be - story wise - going in - but it's really cool and really great.
Oh Hipsters, I know what you're thinking - It's no "Willow." But Cameron is obviously knows his sci fi fantasy. And just the idea of a biological avatar that could be used as a less threatening "first contact" tool is a great premise.
Fine, it's not as intense and awesome as "District 9." (the man-tank in "District 9" was even a better design than the one in "Avatar")
But if that's all you can think of when you see it, try this: think of it as the the "Iron Man" to "The Dark Knight." Both excellent - one a whole lot more serious than the other - but both set in the world of what I like to call - fiction. Good clean fun folks. Excellent.

Hiya folks. I don’t know if you’ve heard – but it’s coming on Christmas here. Even in LA where people love love those blow up yard balloons of Santa, the Grinch, Nativity Scene, Giant Snow Globe we got some Xmas happening. So if it’s your holiday, as it is mine, Happy Merry. I’m writing this while watching my brand new copy of Stephen Colbert’s Christmas Special. Sweet Sweet Nutmeg. Merry, Happy and, if you want no part of it – I hope you don’t have to go to Target til after the 25th. Here’s the upcoming: Podcast, Live Shows and TV: Dork Forest - Today!! Rob Delaney – twitter dork (and not-so-secret lover of all things Napoleonic) http://twitter.com/robdelaney and Bil Dwyer http://therangeshow.com/ who is offended with my need to box people in different Dork Boxes. Uh… he’s a Golf Dork. And so many things - I feel like he might be wearing a sweater. 2pm Pacific Time – LIVE, with Chat Room open - dial direct with www.dorkforestradio.com Standupy Shows in LA:
Tuesday, December 15th 8:30 PM ¤ Comedy Film Nerds Improv Lab Show Melrose Improv - Melrose near Crescent Heights Hollywood, CA Cost: 5 Tuesday, December 15th 10:00 PM ¤ Marc Maron Headlines Melrose Improv Melrose near Crescent Heights Hollywood, CA Cost: 15

Thursday, December 17th 9:00 PM ¤ Josh and Josh Show 7702 Santa Monica Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90046 Cost: Free And here’s an Old Chestnut – my comedy central special will re-air Wednesday Dec 30 2009 12:30 PM(I assume that's Eastern) – called, weirdly enough, Comedy Central Presents Jackie Kashian. This is how they describe it “Jackie Kashian explains her hatred for salespeople and her need for violent video games in this stand-up special.
Well – it’s been fantastic chatting at you. The holidays will give me some great new material. (I sat with one of my brothers and his daughter and we told stories of how we COULD have stolen things but we didn’t. And the self congratulation writes comedy all by itself).
You are all loved and the universe wants you to be happy. As do ..I... take care out there, xo Jackie

Okay – I don’t know how they will feel about this. But - you will hear Maria Bamford's voice and cadence when you listen to her sister Sarah and partner in Joy-Crime Suzi on Tomorrow's ....Dork.. ..Forest.... Podcast.
They are obviously both separate, beautiful people - Sarah and Maria - but you will wonder and now I've told you. Plus... it was kinda neat getting to meet and hang out with Maria's sister. It's like when people meet my dad. They know the stage stuff is a caricature but it's still, somehow, fascinating. Enough! Onto Sarah and Suzi!
They are decorating; visionary, making things look nice DORKS. They have a website and podcast. The podcast is JOY JUNKET and it's available on their website. http://www.kitcheegammivintage.com/ So go watch it!
It's going to be early!! Because they live in ....Duluth.. ..MN.... and have about 9 children who count on them to be around after school. So - it's 9AM Pacific Time. 11AM Central Time (where they are) and NOON for you east coast bastards. I say that only because I JUST got home from ..Atlantic City.. and, I really didn't realize, people from ..Jersey.. - Fuck is just a word. Like THE. I thought that was a caricature - but Nope. I swore more in ....Atlantic City.... than I have since doing a string of bars in the '90s. www.dorkforestradio.com - The Dork Forest opens up at 9AM. Chat room, me talking smack about ....New Jersey..... Me THINKING about reading the wheel of time books by Robert Jordon just so I can read the last three which will be by that guy Sanderson. OR… maybe just reading HIS stuff.
Okay – in other news – I’m in ....Minneapolis.... for the early part of December doing a feature week at Acme, a couple of corporates you can’t come to (though I wish you could) and seeing some of the fam.
Happy Thanksgiving peoples. Find some joy in what you have and remember you are loved. Even if you don’t believe it. xo, jackie

There’s a great ....Dork.. ..Forest.... Podcast tomorrow – 2pm Pacific Time.
www.dorkforestradio.com or, later, you can go to my website where there is a player and listen to it, or you can get it offa iTunes.
It’s Karl Hess – Bond Dork (you Bond people thought that you weren’t dorky cuz it was Bond – but you are wrong –you have a tree in the forest) and, I suspect, other dorky topics will arise. I will learn things. Because I’ve only seen 3? Of them. Hmm.
And Clara Bijl – what kind of Dork is she? Well. For one - she is French. There’s always that ol’ kernel to crunch on. Sigh. I WILL tell her the only French I remember from college – which I just realized is what Everyone does. And she’s really really pregnant. Perhaps she is reading LOTR to her child in utero? (or making the lilt hang listen to that album)?
Shows this week? Plenty in LA and then Monday I go to ....Atlantic City.... for a full week of shows. Like a million I think. At the Tropicana with, get this, JJ Walker – from Good Times. I’m pretty sure. If I’m reading their website right. (I’m TBA for next week. Their “mystery” comic. Very exciting).
You are all loved and the universe supports you. xo, Jackie
