helllo,

mike the ex alterkicks guitarist is in a new band - called 'cut the key'. it also includes his friends luke smith, who plays bass and sings and gary burton, who pretty much just uses his laptop as his instrument.

we're all in the mood for dancing and making noisey bits and lots of hooks. that kind of thing.

there is really not a great deal to seee on the page right now, but this should change over the coming months, so feel free to visit when you get the chance....

ALTERKICKS PRETTY FLY

Martin was interviewed in The Fly recently, talking about producing the forthcoming 'Do Everything I Taught You' debut (August 27th) with Stephen Street and recording in the very pleasant environs of Barnes.

The Fly were also nice enough to join the growing press clamour and describe Alterkicks' music as songs that "stick instantly in the head and make you play them to death."

hello, update time - has been a while.....:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

alls good, if a little quiet... been writing stuffs in the room... generally waiting for the album release... tis out very soon im told... end of the month.

noticed a comment on here just before about the 6/10 in a music mag – then curiousity got the better of me!. tis all cool... read the article myself and that was all fine too... apart from the assumption that we are tutting at the wombats like an older brother or something riduculous. they're old friends from the city of ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />liverpool and a great band.. so from our point of view, goodness only knows what flight of fantasy the dickhead was on with regards to that.

anyways, just saying hello for first time in a while… go watch the last video if you haven't yet… just saw it again for first time in a month… tis ace (and nothing to do with us visually speaking… so i'm not showing off!).

Alterkicks new video 'The Cannibal Hiking Disaster' is here, a magical mixture of live action and animation directed by Andreas Nillson - previously of the likes of Goldfrapp and The Knife.

Singer Martin travelled to Sweden to film his role and you can check out his photo blog about the experience here.

Visit www.thecannibalhikingdisaster.co.uk to watch it now. Remember to pack a strong stomach and dark sense of humour.

On Alterkicks' MySpace page you will find a rather lovely Cannibal Hiking Disaster banner that you can fire off like a signal flare around the internet and help spread word of this grim fairytale-like masterpiece.

Finally, for all you YouTube addicts, 'The Cannibal Hiking Disaster' can be found here, complete and ready for you to embed on your myspace profile, blog or bebo.

Hello,

got back from glastonbury with some physical health and moderate mental powers... thought a blog would be of interest.

Thursday - Arrival

arrived on thursday with two cars full of camp stuff and band equipment. Set about carrying band equipment first. it was like SAS training. horrible – a one mile hike with 5 guitars, two pedal boards, traps case, cymbals, snare. we returned to cars for camp stuff. made second journey to tent spot near the park stage. by this stage we were well and truly broken. not to worry. got drunk and laughed with old friends for rest of the evening.

Friday - Gig Day!

we were playing in the eve... so had to stay sober. first can was cracked at around 2pm, after a pretty ace set by modest mouse. martins coat proved not to be water proof during said set. he nearly cried. we nearly laughed, but we were wet too. went back to tent to get dry. started on some left over port from a previous nights rider. it has warming properties. caught up with other mates too. one appeared to have eaten something toxic. more stuff happened... saw wombats, rufus rainwright, arcade fire... split up – some saw bjork, some arctic monkeys. then we played at 1am. was drunk by this point. was amazing - maybe my favourite ever gig. was being passed vodka, whiskey and god knows what by the crowd. they all jumped. we all smiled. i stage dived for the first time in my life. it was fun. packed up and partied the morning away till bout 6ish in the stone circle field.

Saturday - Messy Frontal Lobe

woke up. bad choice. got on with stuff... eating... moving shitty equipment through mud. horrible. highs and lows. drunk beer and danced to abba back at martins car, where we were dumping half our gear. went back and caught a bit of lily allen on the way down, with the guy from the specials. quite enjoyed it... seemed like ready made festival music. ate falafel. went to circus field. both my wellies broke. threw them off and walked round bare foot. martin and gareth kindly chipped in for a new pair an hour or so later. oli just laughed heartily at my desperate situation. fair enough really.

met peter and the wolf pals and went back to circus tent to watch freak shows, crazy robot things and sword eaters. saw other things that i'm not totally sure how to describe. beautiful dancing girls too. met more friends and went of on a big jaunt to see rodriguez and gabriella. they were pretty good. we were happy. lay in mud with oli. happy idiots. went back to stone circle... spent eve/morning there once again. was one of the most amusing evenings in long memory, though i cant really remember why now. left for tents after sun rise.

Sunday - Late Departure.

woke up... sort of. spent large part of day recovering(ish) and evening lugging stuff back to car with crippling hangovers. by the time we got there we couldnt be arsed going back to site. so sacked it off and left for home.
good choice it turned out as many friends spent loooooooong hours getting out on monday! HAHAHA.

ive left out lots of good bits and lots of less good bits, but that's the general gist.

Breaking news!

NME have released a compilation CD with our top ten* single Good Luck on it. How cool is that? 40 bands, 40 songs and we're on it. Still prefer to get more ACTUAL festivals to play at rather than be on a CD. A CD is not as fun a festival. You can Get it from amazon and then play it and listen to it with your massive ears.

love you. you gang bastards

Martin
