You just can't make this stuff up... As part of Jon's initiation trials, we had to inform him of a very special friend to the band.
Someone who is, to us, a spiritual advisor, a mystical man of a thousand years of wisdoms.

Our resident shaman, Mr. Myagi.

The new lineup debuts live at the Haven Lounge on January 16th, we can't wait!

After being a three piece band for over 4 years, Traverser now welcomes former 7 Blue Skies guitarist
Jon Shaffer as a permanent member. Please welcome him, as we have. We are beyond excited for
what this means for the future of our music, and we can't wait to bring him out live!

Current mood:  creative
Moved in to our new rehearsal space today... best practice session in months! Thanks to Tim and CGM Studios for helping us find a new home.

The day of our last show of 2009, this Saturday the 14th at the Haven Lounge, we will be making a MAJOR announcement. At the show and here on myspace... In many ways this is the biggest news we have ever had since this band started. We are extremely excited for the future of this project, and we can't wait to tell you why.

Also, we are working on having a lot more content in the form of video footage of the progress and process of the band, how we work, what we think, what we're interested in etc... Those of you who check up here once in a while may have noticed the few blogs we posted entitled, "what makes Traverser tick" containing video footage of various people and topics we are interested in.

These are not just random references, many of the topics and people presented in those videos directly influence the concepts and often lyrical content of our work.

After our big news is out on Saturday, we will start posting video content of our own making here in our blog. These will consist of (among other things), interview type conversation, footage of our writing and rehearsal process, live performance footage, and general news and updates.

The purpose in all of this is to show you all a bit more of the inner workings of Traverser, and to invite you to join in our conversations about the things we find most interesting to think about and to write about. And to offer more information than simply saying to a camera, "we got a lot of big things in the works, here's our next show, we hope to see you there.."

We feel that we can be more inclusive than that, and that the people who support us deserve more than home-made  advertisements.

We hope you will join us for this next phase of our journey, and we hope to show you how much time, and thought, and care goes into this band, how much effort and agony goes into the songs, the lyrics, and how we are always trying to learn, to better ourselves, and to better the work that we do.

Thank you all who are with us, and to all those we meet as we move forward; welcome.

Stand by for transmission...

Here is our CD review by Paul Hennig, from the November issue of Connections Magazine:

Five Stars!

Anyone who is even somewhat familiar with the Orlando-area music scene has by now at least heard of Traverser -a powerhouse trio that is currently among the top local bands. After listening to the nine tracks on their debut CD, it becomes obvious how Traverser rose to their current dominant status. Although hard to place in a particular category, it would probably be safe to say that people who like bands like Incubus and Tool would like this band. But that isn't to say Traverser sounds like either. With melodic vocals and echoey leads, the band has a sound all its own -somewhat progressive in nature. The mix and mastering are first-rate, and the packaging is a pro job. Highly recommended.

Thanks Paul and Connections Magazine for such a positive review!

Anyone who knows us at all knows that we have no closer bond than the one we have had over the past 4 years with our friends in 7 Blue Skies. We have played countless shows together, and have spent many late nights, early mornings, birthday parties, poker games, cook-outs, holidays, and road trips together, and laughing our fool asses off with them all along the way.

In many ways, they have been quietly responsible for much that we have learned since we started Traverser, sharing experience, connections, equipment, resources and opportunities whenever they could.

The book has peacefully closed for 7 Blue Skies, and although we are deeply nostalgic about the times we have shared as an alliance of two bands, we can also say that we have been close to them as it ended, and that there was absolutely no drama in it's closing. In fact as far as this group of friends is concerned, it's been business as usual, hanging out, going to shows, and working on this years free haunted house, which is three years running.

Because of all of this, we felt it appropriate to re-post their blog announcing the official end of 7 Blue Skies here on ours.

If you have any comments, or want to share any memories or send some goodbye love, please post them on 7 Blue Skies myspace, to be sure that they will see it.

Re-posted from 7 Blue Skies myspace blog:

There has never been a great way to announce the disbanding of a group. However, in the following paragraphs we shall try our best.

Let us begin by saying, we are proud to have spent the last 6 years creating music and memories with each other and all of you. The love and support of friends and family have always driven this band to new and exciting places. To all of you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Now, concerning the question of "why?  The decision was made quietly and unanimously to write a respectable ending to one of the biggest chapters in all of our lives so far. We truly loved to share in the making of music that we considered to be creative and relevant. If you know us on any kind of personal level, you know that every one of us has nothing but the deepest love and respect for one another. Truly a band of brothers.

We will be posting 3 new and previously unreleased songs to this page including "Fishbowl", "Nights" and "Hardcore Reggae" for you to download. These songs were often played live but completely unreleased in a recorded version. There are also discussions of a final show and as more details come up we will post them here.

Lastly, with our deepest gratitude, thank you.

Blue Skies to all of you!

October 27, 2009 - Tuesday
3 years... 3 years we have been in our rented house, for 3 years we have rehearsed in our modified garage practice space, 3 years without a single complaint, not one. Then a new neighbor moved in next door, an angry, bitter man with seemingly no job, no friends, and who for some reason, never seems to leave his house.

We sealed off our garage door, we put wall to wall carpet on the garage floor, we sealed off the outer side door and window, and we added extra insulation in the ceiling. And for 3 years we practiced 2 or 3 times a week, daytime only, and had friendly, tolerant neighbors, who smiled and waved as we mowed our respective lawns, who chatted with us at our mailboxes and driveways, and who understood that we are respectful and friendly people who need to make some noise once in a while to do what we do.

Now this asshole comes beating at our door, like brigadoon, as if from nowhere, and demands that we shut up or get the police called... We apologized for disturbing him, we tried to reason with him that maybe we can come to an agreement on days of the week and times of the day that we can practice and everyone can co-exist peacefully.

"There's never a good time for that noise!" he said...

"Surely you understand that we can't afford a practice space, and we're more than willing to come to an agreement to make everyone happy.." we said...

"That's not my problem!" he said

"Listen, we have been here for three years and we've never had a problem" we said...

"Well now you have a problem with me!" he said....

un-fucking real...

We of course all know how this story ends. The noise ordinance in Orange county vaguely outlines that up to 60 db is acceptable from 8am to 10pm, to put that in perspective, watching a movie in your bedroom can easily exceed 70 db. This is intentionally done to allow the officer responding to the call to make whatever decision he sees fit about what is, and what isn't disturbing the peace.

The minute we click on our gear from now on, the police will be called, they will tell us that we're disturbing the peace and will side with the neighbor no matter how rationally we attempt to defend ourselves. We are, of course, young men with long hair and guitars.

The officer, faced with the choice of shutting us down and appeasing the neighbor, or siding with us and having to make a wasteful trip to our house twice a week when the neighbor keeps calling in, will simply give us a warning, and inform us that the next time he has to come out, he can fine or possibly arrest us. There is no incentive for the officer at all to defend us, regardless of how unreasonable we think our neighbor is being. We are automatically on the defensive, because we are the ones making noise.

The simple fact is, we know it's a battle that we cannot win.

So thanks a lot asshole, we now must find a practice space that we can somehow afford, which is no mean trick considering we are a band, and by default, broke. And our band is dead in the water until we do.

We hope a sinkhole develops under your house and swallows you whole.
