WHAT this is:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
This is a special invitation for you to come join us for a totally free, totally fun chat this Wednesday, 12/02/09 at 9pm eastern standard time! the place to meet is  http://www.xat.com/brokentoys and you can join us from anywhere in the world!

WHY We're doing it:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
We were thinking the other day that it was a shame that even though we were playing lots more shows, they weren't really reaching far enough for all of you to come join us.  The thing we like most about performing is getting to know you, hearing your stories and experiences and talking about music, monsters, zombies and pirates with you till we're blue in the face!

WHEN was that again?
-=-=-=-=-=-=--=--=-=-=-
This Wednesday, 12/02/09 at 9pm Eastern standard time!
Wherever you are, come join us for fun filled hour of silliness where you can find the answers to important questions like:
Which is better, pancakes or french toast?
How many gobstoppers can one person fit in their mouth at a time?
and of course...
What's the best movie ever involving zombies, aliens and a cowboy in the outback?

Hope to see you there!

Greetings toys and ghouls! Halloween is over, but my cheer has yet to dissipate!

As we spend more and more time rehearsing, booking, traveling and other behind the scenes invisible stuff we realized we're having less time to spend on IM with you. Well that sucks! For those of you who don't know, Teddy, Blight and I take turns on AOL IM as HateInTheBoxBand chatting with you all. Or we did anyway, before getting too many show bookings to chill out on there with you as often.

So at some point along the way, probably the point where we were mixing up conversations flipping between way too many windows, we started using Xat.com to make one big chat room to hang out in. That's at http://xat.com/brokentoys . Apparently the word Hate isn't allowed on 80% of the "civilized" internet. We all hate, but that's a one sided argument for another day. Anyway, we linked the chat box into http://www.hateinthebox.com so you'll be able to find it if you lose the link above. Praise be to the Tech Gnomes!

So anyway, that started at random basically. Sometimes Blight or myself would be on IM at 3AM and... hmm, it's 3:49AM right now actually so there you go. Yeah, so we'd get a bunch of IM's coming in and suddenly think "Self, what if we put all these people in that one chat room?" Then we'd do that and have a big silly time together. But then we'd feel the guilt of knowing we never told anybody else and kept all the fun to ourselves. Ok, so maybe we weren't really feeling that guilty. But still... it was a bit more fun for being spontaneous and unplanned but some of you suggested we try telling everyone to be there at a given day and time and see what happens.

What day? I don't know. Comment and pick one I guess :P

As for my beloved keyboard, it is fucking wrecked. Fortunately, our new bassist knew of a white haired wizard on a magical island whose magicks are far more powerful than my science when it comes to things like this. I humbly went on a voyage with Thadius the Wise to visit the bespectacled mage known only as Flash. Finding the unmarked door, solving the puzzle at the gate, and intoning the correct incantations we gained entry to his tower, clearly in the presence of one who's abilities commanded respect.
Humbly presenting the lifeless husk I carried so far with my hopes, his eyebrows rose. There was no sense of worry, only curiosity. This man, if he is still among the race of man, could actually bring this love of mine back to the world of the rocking. I was ecstatic!

Only the correct spells would require sacrificing many parts to the fates, and accepting new parts from a faraway land where gnomes and fairies grow the necessary components. A land so far away and so secretive that locating the creatures and convincing them to give up the parts wouldn't be possible until after the New Year. NoOoOOoOoOo!

Leaving the wizard to his wizardly deeds, we returned to the land of mortals and puzzled over what to do. Thadius being a bit of a cantrip flinger himself, located a clone of my beloved in the far off exotic land of Maryland. Apparently a land so far off and exotic that Blight, Holly Horror, an Australian ladyfriend and myself could party and not have our loose morals and disregard for social norms reflect poorly on our band.
So yes, we did venture into Maryland and abduct a clone so we can perform for you the rest of this year. And it was awesome. I feel like I'm cheating a bit playing this other keyboard, but I can't cancel these shows and miss seeing you!

Speaking of playing for you and New Year's, we've been trying really really hard to put together the best New Year's party ever for you since it's going to be twenty motherfucking ten! That's like some hardcore sci-fi cyberpunk Ministry meets the Jetsons shit right there! If my imagination could make an event for that brains would melt. It's so rich for imagery I can hardly stand to type it all out.

Instead of driving myself berserk with the impossible, we've decided to pick a place where reality meets imagination a little more easily. A place far from anywhere we've been before. A place where the steel beasts that roam free in classics like Mad Max, Tank Girl and other fan fave post apocalyptic mindscapes take form in real life. For the start of the year that marks the beginning of the FUTURE!

Detroit 2010! Motor City Apocalypse!

Yeah, if we can pull together everything we've been imagining it's going to be out of control!

Ok this blog post is way longer than I expected, and I can't sit still long enough to find pictures for this right now so I'll end it here.

Thanks all for listening to our creations and following us on our eccentric journey to your city, wherever you may be!

I was having a chat with someone at Ottos about when how we were in high school there were parties that cost like $5 to get in and had free drinks and cool bands and it was just so damn fun for so cheap. Now it's like $20 to get in to a party and your entertainment is that Abercrombie creep staring at you like "Are you mad at Daddy?"

Then the bartender's like you're that guy playing on Devil's Night right? And I'm like yeah, and she says that party is TWO DOLLARS so there you go. And my drunk ass didn't get it. Then she puts it all together for me like "Your band AND a rocking band you like is playing the best holiday on a Friday night with free sweet drinks and it costs even LESS than $5. WTF?"

Whoa! Why didn't I notice that? =P

Time for an update? Who knows but here we go!

CONNECTICUT SHOW SEPT 19TH
So we've been in touch with the gents at Roses Cantina in Connecticut about playing there September 19th. We're excited. We've heard it's the most rock and roll venue in the area. All rock, hotties and hooch! If you're from the area and you've never been there you should be checking it out even when we're not playing ;)

YOUTUBE VIDEO
Some people IM'ing with us this week said they didn't know there was video of our last show at the Highline Ballroom on YouTube. I guess we're better performers than we are promoters? Comment the video so we can motivate our bassist to stop being late to rehearsals! :)

HITB ON FACEBOOK
Enough of you asked for us to make a Hate in the Box Facebook profile that we finally took the plunge and set our tech gnomes to figuring out the mystical incantations that make the notorious FB magic work.

If you're not getting enough of a window into our mysterious happenings, Crime has been pretty active on his personal Facebook profile divulging state secrets and chatting with fans at random.

CHATROOM
Some of you suggested we get a chatroom so we can do a fan question style interview and we thought that would be a lot of fun so we made a Mecha Online Talkbox Chatroom of DOOM!

So... what day of the week do you think would be good for this? What time? Do any of you want to be a moderator and/or help organize this? We'd rather be ambushing venue owners and promoters so we can visit you than organizing this stuff so comment and let us know :)

That's a lot of words so I declare this update completz0r3D!!!!!11111

We've been enjoying the days since the Cirque du Rock show so much that we haven't really posted much more about how it went. Oops!

Ken Pierce of PiercingMetal.com was at the show to cover the Suicide City album release, but felt compelled by the force of our Mesmotron 5000 to write about us as well ;) Surely the Mesmotron 5000 would not have been nearly as potent that night if it hadn't been powered up by the clapping, screaming and general ruckus making that you all put out that night :D

Anyway, here's the HITB part. For the full article visit www.piercingmetal.com !

"If memory serves me correctly I was at a Wednesday 13 gig in Brooklyn, NY a couple of years ago and at this show I had met a very interesting singer who told me her name was Rainbow Blight. She gave me a flyer for a performance that was coming soon and sadly while I would be unable to attend I made sure to remember the name for future reference.

Fast forward about two years and here we are at the Highline Ballroom getting ready to enjoy a set of their material. They call their brand of music “Candy Coated Horror Rock” and Ms. Blight is the epitome of everyone’s Gothic Lolita dreams. She exudes energy during the show and to easily describe what she looks like, it is best to imagine that a toy doll has come to life and is performing in front of you.

The full lineup of the band is Optimus Crime who handles the keyboard synth-axe and also engages the crowd quite a bit. Teddy Kreuger is on guitar and on the foreboding side in terms of visual. He sports a hat much like the famous movie serial killer and only takes this off when Rainbow needs to dispense candy to the audience from it.

I had no background in their songs but shall be looking more into them going forward. I was not sure who was joining the band on drums and bass but they did have an additional two players in the lineup this evening. It was a very visual set in terms of how they would do things tonight and while there are no real stage props that would be used during the gig the band did really play to the audience and was going over very, very well. I would see them again.

This evening was special for the band as they were celebrating the release of their own new CD called “Under The Ice”. Now it was time for Suicide City to take the stage and there were a few more folks in the venue that seemed to be in place exclusively for them."

So. There is this place in NYC called Williamsburg.
They have bands like this: http://www.zzzsss.com/media.html

When the video starts to singe your brain, begin reading this review:
http://www.progreviews.com/reviews/display.php?rev=zs-arms

When the SAT words and I-so-smart jargon begins to gang rape your grey matter, retreat to the reality of your choice. It's not worth smashing your monitor over. Like all things unpleasant, a little taste is enough to confirm your suspicions.

I was mentally fortified for the eventual "what the fuck are these crazy kids doing now days?!" moment in my life. It's something we all think is lurking in our futures, waiting to ambush us and forever lock us into a boring hellish world of adult diapers and false teeth.

Paranoid though I was, never did I foresee being psychically sideswiped by old dudes in beards, and eyeglasses that may have had a past life attached to a fake mustache and big plastic nose.

Until last night(or whenever it was) the entirety of Williamsburg was deserving of some serious arson. A big flaming reset button for a scene that went horribly horribly wrong. But as happens living in New York, a night of randomness brought us to the time and place where we saw a sock puppet rock band, causing our torch and pitchfork band of malcontents' course to be altered.

Now, if anyone had told me about this act I would have ended our friendship and perhaps tied them to some railroad tracks for thinking I should be subjected to this. I watched the whole show. The sound was awful, the lighting nonexistent, there was no live drummer, and the stage was set for disaster for any band that expected to look and sound good.

None of that mattered. Their show was easily one of the most fun live shows I've ever seen! How could this be?! Puppets! Dinosaurs! Spacemen! Super Mario Brothers? A dragon?

My precious jadedness ruined!! NoOOooooOoOo!!!

So I hereby decree that Williamsburg is not to be burned until Uncle Monsterface evacuates their castle to a more deserving locale.

That is all  =D

I started writing this on Facebook but don't know where to post anything longer than a Status or Wall or whatever the fuck made-up buzzword they call it. So here I am back on the dreaded MySpace to share my thoughts :p

3:46am Random Thoughts:

I don't think my keyboard is going to survive this show. It's been broken in many ways for so long, but I love/hate it so much that I can't imagine not performing with it.

The new set we're doing is amazingly fun to play when everything works, we can't wait to share it with everyone.

When I think Circus + Sunday Best I imagine everyone in clownface and a big pie fight!
We'd have to play instruments so we'd be at a disadvantage though...
Who wants to enlist in our clown go-go brigade and throw pies for us?

Well it's been a long and..  vibrant(?) history but Goth is officially dead (not undead mind you) in the U.S.A.

Why? Because everyone knows you're not goth without having experienced the almighty clove cigarette. And now, thanks to government (which shall forever remain evil to rockers everywhere, regardless what smiling face is on the throne) they are illegal.

First our beloved Sparxxx and now this?!?!?!
Oh the HUMANITY!
