So guys, I need like $3000. Really, for $3000 I can do about 15 shows in a row on a tour from here to wherever. SOMEONE figure out how we can get back on the road! I miss Texas for some reason.

Okay, I guess this first show back in Philly will have to tide me over for now, but keep it in mind.

So that sucked, about what... ummm, 8 months ago we had a show in Asbury Park and that seemed like the end for a while, but I had no idea it would be this long. Basically, I moved to Philly and had to figure out a way to live. BAS was penniless from our last tour and life just seemed to get in the way how it sometimes has a tendency too.

But now we’re back!

We’ve got a great new venue in Northern Liberties and we’re hoping to make our presence known in our new hometown of Philadelphia!

New Mission Statement!

Dominica and myself reworded the mission statement and subsequent short explaination of what exactlly we do when we get to a venue. Hopefully it sounds a bit more professional and is a little clearer. We're also sending this out to venues for tour.

 

MISSION STATEMENT:

BIG ART SHOW gives local, unknown, and independent artists an opportunity to perform and display their work to their peers and to the public.  Run by a collective of artists and volunteers based out of the greater NJ area, BIG ART SHOW is driven by a passion to create an environment devoid of the pressures and insincerities of the public media.

BIG ART SHOW creates community both locally and nationally by having traveling art events which invite visual artists from any location to display their work, attend the shows, and network with other artists. Similarly, BIG ART SHOW provides an opportunity in which lesser-known musicians can play in front of larger and more varied audiences. BIG ART SHOW does not charge a fee for artists to show their work, nor is a commission taken on sold work.  We are constantly striving to create new outlets for artists and musicians to be able to grow in their art form.

 

WHAT WE DO WHEN WE COME TO YOUR VENUE:

BIG ART SHOW is an all-inclusive multi-media event that can happen in any type or size of venue; we book the artists, bands, and djs, as well as provide everything that is needed for the display of artwork.  We create a suitable environment for exhibiting art in any location through the use of displays (essentially, we build temporary walls using metal grids) and lighting. We can even set up around existing exhibits or obstacles, we're really creative and flexible!

We have a huge network of artists and volunteers that reaches across the country. We utilize this to recruit artists and musicians for our shows and to spread the word of our events via local media and flyer distribution.

We have done over 50 highly successful events over the last 4 years and are on our way to becoming an official non-profit 501(c)3. We bring community and positive attention to anywhere we bring the show.

We're also now excepting donations! We could use some funds to help out with tour and if you're able to give us a few bucks we'd really appreciate it! I had to buy a new van (well new to me) for tour (R.I.P. BIG DIESEL CHEVY), and me not having to go into more debt to get the new beast road ready would really make my day! Even a little bit really does help. Even a few people giving us a couple bucks could add up into a new tire or a tank of gas to get us to the next show!

It's just a little more than two weeks until the BIG ART SHOW TOUR!

 

We have 7 BIG ART SHOWS planned for the trip but we also are doing a few of what we like to call "small art shows". These are events where we are just jumping onto an already existing night and bringing our gear so artists can just show up and join in from the area.

 

We need help filling in the empty dates! If you have any ideas, contacts or live in an area and want to help us make it happen, get in touch! We'll have all our BIG ART SHOW equipment with us, so why not?!

 

Bands! If you have a show in the area of one of our off nights get us on your gig!

We'll owe you a gig and we'll do a call for artists in the area, so it'll be a cool thing for us and your show!

 

We'll have about 7 artists with us the whole tour, and two bands

BIG ART SHOW sets up art events in various cities on the east coast. We've
done over 30 hugely successful shows in Brooklyn, NY, Philadelphia, PA,
Asbury Park, NJ, Baltimore, MD, and Akron, OH.  We have had events in such
spaces as The Ottobar in Baltimore, Bar Sputnik in Brooklyn, The
University of Pennsylvania's Rotunda and The Stone Pony in Asbury Park.
We're different from other large art events because we are an all
volunteer force who puts events together solely for the love of art. We
exist to give underexposed artists and musicians the chance to show their
work and perform for the public and their peers. This creates an
atmosphere that artists really want to see succeed. Local area artists
rally around us and our idea for a new kind of art scene. This helps us
make successful events happen in every new area we have come to.

-An average show consists of 30 - 75 artists (depending on venue size)
and 5 musical or performance acts along with short films or video art.
-The majority of the show is made up of local artists and bands of various
styles and media, which we gather through our various artist networks and
local contacts.
-The average event in a new area attracts over 300 non-participating
attendees (besides the artists and band members)

We bring our own display equipment in the form of metal grid walling, so
we don¡¦t even have to put holes in the walls.  We have shown 50 artists
at a time, solely on our own portable display. We also have lighting,
video and projection equipment.

The event is free for participating artists (no entry or judging fees). We
make our costs by charging a $5 cover (or requested donation) for everyone
else. We try to keep the shows as inexpensive for admission as possible to
try and allow everyone to be able to attend. We usually pay our costs and
the bands out of the money we take in.

We are going on our first multi-state tour from March 3rd to March 18th.
We would love to include your space as one of our stops!
