In case you missed the earlier blog, Glenn is stepping down from the lead guitar position due to the intensities of work and life. So come out and celebrate our last show with him at Kelly's Olympian (21+) on August 1st. We're opening for 48 Thrills and 800 Octane and it should be a really fun show. Our set will have songs from all eras of the band, including the first live performance of the Zero Boys' "Slam & Worm" which we recorded recently for an upcoming tribute to the Vicious Circle album.

Alright! We're only going to be playing a handful of shows this summer, for two reasons:  we're recording two full-length records, Under Surveillance and Return To The Nowhere Zone; and we're having another line-up change. Dr. Glenn's work and family schedule are getting pretty intense, so he's stepping down from the lead guitar position. Our pal Joey Esquire will taking over his spot and the downtime while we get him up to speed should be minimal. He's been the unofficial fifth Anxiety for years anyway, so he's definitely the natural guy to take over for Glenn.

On St. Patrick's Day two years ago the Anxieties were playing in Eugene and when we realized that it was Kurt Russell's birthday as well we decided that he was far more important to us than some bogus Christian missionary. Our holy trinity is The Thing, Escape From New York, and Big Trouble In Little China. Hey St Patrick, good luck banishing this Snake!

It's a short one, but I like it.

"Anxieterrific! Silly but awesome new wave punk that made me pogo shamelessly (well, maybe that's impossible, but with minimal shame)."

Wow, last year was incredibly bad for us. Van breakdown resulting in cancelled Summer tour and other mishaps including getting over 2 feet of snow lead to the cancellation of other potentially awesome shows. The one bright spot was that we got "The Next Mutation" out on CD, but the tour cancellation/van repair was enough of a financial blow that we still haven't been able to release the vinyl.

However, being that we're too dumb to quit, we do still plan on getting it out sometime this year, as well as recording the all-new "Under Surveillance" record. We also plan on doing an album of new recordings of unreleased or rare songs from the Eugene days entitled "Return To The Nowhere Zone". Here's where you can help...BUY A T-SHIRT OR A CD! You can get stuff directly from us at our Store, or from Interpunk and there's even a link on our profile to get the album from iTunes, Napster, eMusic, and most other download sites if you prefer to get mp3s.

From issue 305 with Pierced Arrows on the cover

"Hell yeah! This one surprised me. Why have I never heard of this band before? Upon listening to this, I would have guessed that The Anxieties are from Denton or Austin or somewhere from the Southwest, just judging by other bands that have come from there that sound similar. A quick web search reveals that they're from Portland, OR of all places. When I think of Portland, I think crust- heavy, dark crust. This couldn't be further from that. It's some fast rock 'n' roll influenced punk, sounding somewhat like The Reds or a snottier version of the Marked Men. See the Texas references? There's not much more to say, other than these guys know how to rock!" - (BD)

And just a reminder, you can get this album through iTunes, eMusic, Napster, Amazon, etc as well as from cool places like Green Noise Records, Mutant Pop Records, Interpunk, and of course directly through us as well.

This one's from Rock'N'Roll Purgatory:

The Anxieties - The Next Mutation
A collision between Richard Hell, the Weirdos, and the Rip-Offs can't be a bad thing. The Anxieties hail from the Right-To-Die state where good music constantly falls from the trees like Newtonian apples into the proverbial Garden of Eden, and rampaging meth-heads haunt the dreams of dentists everywhere. If the song title "I Hate Myself (But I Hate You More)" resonates with your sardonic sense of humor, then you and I should drink beer and listen to this album together. - Ben

http://punkrockreview.org/blog1/2008/08/the_anxieties_the_next_mutatio.html

The Anxieties – "The Next Mutation" – The Next Mutation is a tight and spunky Brit-punk sounding album that feels like it was a lost artifact straight from the late 70's punk scene. The Anxieties use punk's raw quick energy and immediately apply it to distorted and white noise filled harmony-driven songs. Unlike many bands with a similar sound that ripple with boorish thoughts and candid love conflicted emotions, The Anxieties maintain their prickly edge, even while skirting their softer side. They neither drudge ruthlessly nor artificially sweeten things to appeal to the sheep of society. From the opening whelping of "Get your shoes on" through the quick jump cut fury of "X-Ray Eyes"& "Don't call me"; The Anxieties cleverly walk the thin line between sweet and sour, leaving the punk politics to others and settling for the clever cynicism in songs like "Next mutation" & "Stereo therapy". Fans of; The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, and/or New York Dolls are sure to find the album quite enjoyable.
