Pardon the Aerosmith reference, or maybe don't, its up to you!  While the band hasn't been on a true hiatus - we've played 3 shows and been writing a little - it feels like we've had a bit of hiatus due to lack of news and a bit of personal time off.  Fear not though, we are BACK and ready to get in your face.  Here's the rundown:

-If you were at the last two shows you saw and maybe met our good friend Justin Fields, Justin is our brand spanking new bassist and given our history we are hopeful to possibly have a permanent member!

-Collin and I have been having a blast recording The Restoration, and we love it likes its our own.  Look out for it in early Spring, and please buy a copy to support local music!

-We also have some recording news of our own!  We have been writing towards recording an EP this December!  Currently we've got a song ready, two in the works, and are throwing around ideas for a couple of more.  We are really excited about recording these songs and we promise a really special project out of this one!

-In case you missed it, we were featured on Napster Germany, and thats just too awesome/hilarious to not repost!

You guys rock, thanks so much for your support!  We can't wait to get out there and rock for YOU!

Good evening myspacers!

In case you haven't yet, please check out our brand new website at http://www.thefiretonight.com!  We have been updating as much as possible with tidbits and of course TOUR VIDEO! (All tour video can also be seen on our Vimeo site, http://www.vimeo.com/tags:thefiretonight).

Whew, enough of that.  I just wanted to post an exclusive Myspace blog to recap the tour!!  You can't match the tour videos, but I'll give it a shot.  Here goes:

-The tour was great, well, until the brakes gave out on our Explorer.  Thankfully this didn't happen until the last night and we were all safe.  In the end, 600 bucks and a good story.

-We debuted a new song for the first time in what seems forever.  Yes, that means we are writing more new material!  It is a solid rocker, no sappy slow second album for this band I guess.

-While we played some amazing venues, our favorite stop was probably The Juggling Gypsy in Wilmington.  I swear there is something coming out of the vents in that place...

-A few bands we played with that will be showing up with us in the future: Nova Stella, Left On Cates, Sundrone, Silverhand, and Martians See Red.

-We rode 49 hours total in a car with no air conditioning.  It doesn't get much more manly than that.

You guys rock!!  SceneSC.com birthday party Thursday in Columbia!!!

Current mood:  crazy

We are all currently enduring the work of promoting our upcoming tour shows.  By my estimation we have sent out over 70 e-mails, printed over and mailed over 100 posters, and annoyed approximately 1,000 people via Facebook and Myspace.  At some point we are actually going to get to the music, but not until Thursday.
I did want to update with a few tidbits about the tour that will hopefully get you pumped!!

-We are scrapping our standard set and going back to the drawing board.  So, the tour set is going to be something nearly entirely new.  Don't worry we are keeping the best, but pulling something out of the vault, learning a new cover or two, and maybe something brand new?  Either way we promise greatness.

-The Winston-Salem show, which is the first of the tour, is completely free and with our good friends Esterhaazy.  This is going to be a more laid back show than normal, so we are hoping for a lot of fun crowd interaction and general first tour show ridiculousness.

-The Atlanta show on June 22nd is going to be a blast, it is our first time in the ATL so please come out and show some love!  We'd like to come back.  We have free tickets, so please e-mail us if you would like some!!

-The Raleigh show on June 29th is another FREE one!!

-Columbia on July 9th with Allison Weiss (who is on the front page of Billboard.com by the way) is going to be the Birthday celebration of SceneSC.com!!  This show is going to be huge.

-Look for us in an upcoming issue of Greenville's Link Magazine, as well as listening for us on 93.3 The Planet in Greenville!

-Last but not least, the June 28th show in Charlotte is likely Justin Heitings' last with the band.  Justin has been a great help to us as we wandered through the world of not having a bassist so please come out and support him!  Band friend Jesse James will be playing bass for the rest of the tour.

We can't wait to see you!!

Hello friends!

We at The Fire Tonight camp are busy gearing up for a big summer!  A new website is on the way, we have been rocking it out on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/thefiretonight) and of course, summer tour dates! (partial list at the bottom of this update)!  It is going to be awesome, fun, and awesome.  Did we mention that it would be awesome?

We have a special treat courtesy of our friend David from SceneSC.com.  He was kind enough to film our entire set opening for the Restoration in Columbia!  They dress up in 1800's clothes and play 1800's themed music, so we decided to perform from our time period.  Enjoy!

The Fire Tonight from Scene SC on Vimeo.

Here's the set list:

Ashes
Be Rejected
Pay the Waitress
Dusk
Cannon Canvas
Kings of Misery (Daniel Machado cover)
The Worst Panic Attack Ever (Daniel Machado cover)
Black Confetti

Feel free to share, and check out the tour dates to see if we are coming near you!!

Current mood:  chipper

First of all, so sorry to have been away for so long.  We have been working feverishly on a brand new website (go to http://www.thefiretonight.com to see the awesome splash page) and trying to get some summer shows booked, so there is a lot to look forward to!  The past few shows have been a great deal of fun, here is a short list of highlights:

-Collin's Frank Sinatra impression in Winston-Salem
-Opening for Lovedrug (yes it was amazing)
-The first opener at Ground Zero who basically talked over a drum machine.  Hilarious.
-Covering both Jimmy Eat World and Chris Isaak at Ground Zero, as well as finally performing the title track to our album again

So that is a too short list of the fun that the past few shows have contained.  Once the new site is launched there will be more updates than anyone could handle, we can't wait.  For now if you want more updates, hit us up on Twitter!  http://www.twitter.com/thefiretonight.  We update daily and try to say something inspirational, not to mention LIVE highlights from the show!

To close out this blog, I wanted to share something our good friend Kevin wrote about our album.  He isn't part of a newspaper or magazine, but his review of the album really nails what it is all about.  Thus, it was completely worth sharing.  It is also hilarious, so enjoy!

"While many small, unsigned bands (and even some top 40 bands) sound
more like they are performing the act of filatio than music, there are
a small select number that create a new, innovative sound that is to be
rivaled by many bands playing in arenas. The Fire Tonight is one of the
latter. Their album "No One Is Fine" is an amazing example of what you
can do when you have a passion, knowledge, and sensibility about music.
This is one of those albums that make you wonder why people like Lil'
Wayne are Grammy nominated and these guys aren't millionaires.

The album is a simple ten song disc that does the typically impossible
job of making you listen straight through without skipping, and leaving
you not only wanting more of the song you just listened to, but also
making you want to hear what else the band can do. They have the
ability to write complicated songs (lyrically and musically), but
making them accessible. Maybe they've created a new genre: Prog-Pop.

With the album running the gamut of sounds from the Ben Folds sounding
ballad "Daniel Mclean", to the punk-esque "Pay The Waitress", to the
crescendo-ing "Black Confetti" and title track, to the manic
"Sunderland"; no one will ever dare call this album boring.

The lyrics are impressively written. While some aren't obvious and even
mysterious ("Don't Look Back") to one as ignorant as myself, they also
can be blatant while still being poetic (Daniel Mclean). Collin is
obviously a very talented writer, and I'm glad I can finally
understand what he is saying.

Many people may want to know who The Fire Tonight sounds like, so here
is a short list of a few bands: Muse, Ben Folds, Radiohead, Rufus
Wainright, Queens of the Stone Age, The Animals, The Beatles, The Mars
Volta, and probably anyone else you may like. I guess you can probably
say that The Fire Tonight sounds most like The Fire Tonight. They take
examples from other bands, and you can hear that, but they refuse to
exist as a simple cookie-cutter of any other band.

While no album is perfect, and no one hears this more than the
musicians that record the album, as an unsigned, independent, freshman
attempt all I can say is I'm excited to see what they can do next.

And as a side note, if you ever get a chance to see them live, you
should go. Not just for the music, but the energy they give off is not
like many bands, signed or not. The Fire Tonight is the type of band to
support. They love music and they creating music you'll love to hear.
I'm sure making millions would be awesome for them, but you can tell
they are honest about their passion. Just make sure you buy the CD, so
you can digest the music and the lyrics on a regular basis.

And to Collin and the rest of the band, you are okay and much more than fine."

Thanks Kevin!!

See you in Charlotte on the 27th and Columbia on the 28th!!

Hello friends!  Thanks to everyone who has voted in the contest on alternativeaddiction.com, voting lasts all month so keep showing the love!  Now, the rest of this blog is dedicated to anyone who plays, or knows someone who plays the bass!

Justin has been filling in admirably for a long time now, but it is time for us to add a true fourth member to the band.  If you are interested hit us up on Myspace or at thefiretonight@gmail.com.  Here is what we are looking for:

-Solid and creative bass skills, with an open attitude towards many genres and ideas.
-Willingness to tour regionally on weekends and to promote those awesome shows.
-Having your own equipment is good but not a necessity.
-We certainly aren't ones to discriminate based on geography, so bring it on!  Canada might be a stretch though.
-There will be an audition and hang out time, because we gotta feel the love.

Serious inquiries only, this is a permanent position in the band.

Please pass this along!!

See you soon!

Good day friends!

First of all, thank you to everyone who came out to the January shows!  They were AWESOME and they wouldn't have been awesome without your support.  The AU show was a fun one which ended with Jamie and I shirtless, the Charlotte show was where Justin (our touring bassist) proved he knew every single female in Charlotte and get them out to the show, and Wet Willie's in Columbia was just one big party.  That is a seriously cool venue and it was an honor to play with This Machine Is Me and Marry a Thief.  We've got some more shows coming up and in the works, as well as some big news.  Sorry to be a tease but that's the way it goes.

On to the purpose for this blog, and that is to help you guys who haven't yet bought copies of the album to get your hands on them!  There are numerous ways besides just at our shows, so I thought I would share...

Monday, November 17, 2008
Good day everyone!

We sincerely hope all is well, and we are incredibly excited to release this album!  First of all, some shout outs are in order.  We had a great time at WXRY last night, they have already uploaded Collin's special live rendition of Daniel Mclean to their myspace so check that out at http://www.myspace.com/wxryunsigned.  We are also featured at http://www.scenesc.com this week in preparation for our CD release show.  There should be some good stuff happening there, and you can also still vote on the "best SC album of 2008" poll that they are hosting!  It's just an all around cool website anyway.

We spent the past weekend doing something that we rarely get to do - practice.  We have put together something truly special for Friday night including a new cover, an old cover, and the title track of the album which has not yet been heard by human ears.  All in all it is the most rock n roll set we have ever done and who knows what will happen once we actually get on stage.  We've been off for far too long and we are beyond excited to do some real deal intense rock for you all!.

There should be some more tracks showing up on the website soon, and this Friday you can pick up the album at the show for only $5!  That's a full length album for 5 bucks.  Madness!  After that it will be available in many different places including this very website.

So to sum up, we can't wait to see everyone Friday night!
