I'm going to go ahead and admit it - I'm pretty pissed off at the Lifetime for stopping their 8-10  am airings of back-to-back Golden Girls episodes.  My mornings haven't been starting quite as sassy with a daily dose of Still Standing.

You know what will turn my mood around?  A little rock and roll.  Tomorrow night - the Lizard Lounge.  The Click Five.  Us.  Be there.

Last night, I played a really cool show at ImprovBoston.  It was an improvised story about a coffee shop called "Center Mike."  In the first half of the show, the main character Mike gets all upset about his life.  Then, they introduced me.  I did three songs.  In the second half of the show, the actors used my lyrics as inspiration to resolve the conflict.  So my music was used to "center Mike."  Get it?

It was a pretty weird experience to be the only person on stage that wasn't a fictional character.  The main character had this big yelling meltdown and then said "Ladies and gentlemen, Brendan Boogie."  It was one of the stranger transitions I've had to make.  So I decided to do what I always do - heckle.  Of course, this time I was able to heckle trained improvisors instead of poor, unsuspecting audience members.

Surprisingly, the show was a lot of fun to do.  Usually, the word "improv" sends douche chills up the line of my spine.  But no one asked for a place or a movie style or played any stupid games.  It was like a play in which the resolution hinged on my music.  It was a really cool experience and I appreciate being a part of it.

If you are looking for more traditional fare, the big Click Five show is coming upon us this Saturday!  These Click Five shows have been selling out, so be sure to get your tickets in advance right hnyaw:  http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/55173

For those of you who don't know, I'm on twitter now @brendanboogie.  I'm trying my best to jump into this whole "tiny blogging" thing, but it takes 150 words for me to get out of bed in the morning, so I must admit that it's a bit of a struggle.  How can I distill my comic genius down to 140 characters?  Stay tuned and see.

Mostly, I've been just pimping the Click Five show on Saturday night.  The shows of this residency have been sell-outs, so be sure to get your tickets in advance:  http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/55173

For those of you not familiar with the Click Five (for whom we are opening on Saturday at the Lizard Lounge), here's what I know about them:

Right before I joined Scamper (Roderick's second-to-last show, I believe), the Click Five opened for Scamper at the glorious Beachcomber in Quincy.  This was a historic night in Scamperlore because it was when I offered to play bass in their famous "rotating bass player" show, leading to over four years of marital bliss.

But the Click Five went on to some acclaim after that as well.  International superstardom and shit.  You know how bands joke that they're "huge in Asia"?  The Click Five get mobbed on the streets in Asia.  Seriously.

Now they're back in Boston, the same humble cool guys they were back in that sparsely-attended Beachcomber show.  Saturday is the final night of their residency and we're pretty psyched to be playing it with them.

This weekend, I was coerced by my ladyfriend into watching a few minutes of Dancing With The Stars, leading me to a few inescapable conclusions:

Conclusion #1:  Those professional women dancers have sick bodies.  So there's that.

Conclusion #2:  The word "star" has been stretched a bit far, don't we think?  I mean Lawrence Taylor is the greatest pass rusher of all time and I know who Steve-O is, but everyone else?  A guy from Microsoft?  A cowboy?  A chick from The Bachelor?  By the by, this leads me to...

Conclusion #3:  My ladyfriend and I have very different ideas of what "the news" means.

Me:  Who's that?

Ladyfriend:  It's the girl from the big Bachelor controversy.

Me:  [shrug]

Ladyfriend:  You didn't hear about the big Bachelor controversy?  It was all over the news.

Me:  "The news"?  What happened on a dating TV show was on "the news"?

Ladyfriend:  Yes.  I'm standing by that statement.

The sad thing is she's probably right.  With the way the news shows and websites are nowadays, why cover Iraq or Congress or local government or corruption when someone on a TV show decided to fake date someone else instead of someone other than the person they decided to fake date in the first place?

And you people mock me for watching pro wrestling.

Thanks so much to all the good folks for coming out to the Gulu Gulu Cafe in Salem last night.  You can tell it was a good show when I turn to Ken afterward and say, "That was good.  I didn't drive away as many people as I usually do."

The evening didn't start out too promisingly.  Yup.  I'm going to use the word "promisingly" even though I'm pretty sure it's not a real word.  About an hour before I arrived at the venue, I got a voice mail from Justin saying that he was having car trouble.  Actually, it wasn't just car trouble - his engine had exploded into a useless twist of smoke and broken dreams.  He was going to have to uncharacteristically miss a gig.

With Tim on paternity leave, that meant the Brendan Boogie Trio was down to a duo.  A handsome duo, but a duo nonetheless.  Ken and I grabbed our acoustics and tried to grab the attention of the dining patrons at the Gulu.  It took every obnoxious bone in my body, but by the end of the set, everyone was paying attention to me me me.  I'm like a five-year old in that way - there's no difference between good and bad attention.

The audience was terrific and we had a great time playing the Gulu.  We look forward to going back there again some time soon.  Unless they actually remember what a dick I was.

Quick update today - we're playing at the Gulu Gulu Cafe in Salem tonight.  Should be a fun night, with Ben Pilgrim opening.  Good sandwiches, an excellent beer selection, and some cool music.

Really, that's all I've got for you today.  My blogging has been subpar at best lately.  I am fully aware of this.

Yup.  I'm posting at 1:30 the day after St. Patrick's Day.  You do the math.

Tomorrow night at the Gulu Gulu Cafe in Salem, we'll be hitting the stage.  We'll be playing a mix of quiter acoustic songs and full out rock and roll.  Since our boy Tim is on paternity leave, we'll be playing as a trio, although I may sneak in a solo acoustic song or two, maybe even debut a few new songs.  The great Ben Pilgrim will be opening, so it should be a fun night of music for those of you in the Salem area.

In other news, someone famous got in a car accident.  I don't know who it is, but apparently that's because I don't watch "the news."

The actual Irish have a name for St. Patrick's Day - Amateur Hour.  But go ahead - pay a cover and stand in line for an hour outside an Irish dive pub that doesn't charge $7 for a Guinness the other 364 days of the year.  You're embarrassing yourself, America!  Have some dignity!

In other news, pimp pimp pimp.  I'm going to be bringing some semblance of the band to the Gulu Gulu in Salem on Thursday night for a fun show.  It'll be a nice post-St. Patrick's let down.  Our good friend Ben Pilgrim from RI will be opening.  Should be a really fun, loosey goosey kind of show with some acoustic stuff, some new songs, some rock and roll.  The whole gamut.  Gambit?  Gam-gam?

The Gulu has great sandwiches and great beer.  So come on by.

Good morning, friends.  Sorry if I've been less than punctual with my occasional daily blog entries.  Don't take it personally.  It just means that I have no regard for anyone other than myself.  So it's just that.

This weekend, I hit the Lizard Lounge to see the second night of the Click Five residency and it was fan-f'ing-tastic.  Not only were the Rationales terrific, but I saw my new musical hero Frank Ciampi who I have now decided to stalk in a non-sexual way (for now).  And the stars of the show were terrific and surprisingly ego-free for international pop stars.

Our show with them on the 28th is going to be a ton of fun.  I don't have details yet, but I can promise you one thing:  shenanigans.  There will be shenanigans.
