Greetings Earth beings. It's time for this show to hit the road. I'm seekin' live musicians to form one of the most creative crews ON THE PLANET!!! Can't stress that enough. A sketch of what I'm lookin' for is...street DJ, Bass (preferrably jazz, funk player), Guitarist (jazz, funk), Drummer (jazz, funk), Sax, Trumpet, vocalists (real singers, not autotune babies). This Fu**in' Town.....

     Heeeeeeeey FAM!!! Juss to fill u in on a wonderful day in da lab yesterday. Dig it.

     My boy from da Bronx called me yesterday, so we could hangout at this local studio, catch up on some things, maybe kick around some beats, lay down some vocals, or wuteva. Well I picked him up at the local bar where he was quenchin' his thirst, and was out. We eventually get there, to "Madd Dogg Recording" or somethin' like that, and I meet a guitarist who actually lives there. His partner was in the engineering room trackin' a local vocalist. I never met the partner, or the vocalist. So we toss in a cd with my joints on it, and the guitarist began to record my boy Wiz fom Bx...he happens to be a dope freestylist. He kills it in like one take, then asked me to drop him off for a few at a females crib.  Cool. I did it, then returned to the studio. By now it's just me n the guitarist, 'cause the other two cats left. Cool. He had "Reason" set up to record me live from the keyboard, so I started putting some drums down, bassline, Rhodes, and tracked the whole thing. I gotta say, we were both happy with what we were hearin'. Personally I was lookin' forward to "completion" of the damn thing. Well, the phone rang. It's Wiz. Apparently the guitarist ,whom I'd been chillin' with, has a 94 Cavalier for sale for a whopping $400....and Wiz's female friend is a need of a car. She's got chips like right now. I think I saw a gleam in dudes eye when it was confirmed that she indeed has chips, and was ready for a test drive. He has the title in hand, and we're in his "new" caddy, on our way to "him" being $400 richer. I could care less, I only went to get into some music. Which was cool 'til the phone rang. We pick up Wiz n his friend, and bounce over to the car for sale. It definately looked like a $400 car. Yo, u know how people get a used car, then try to talk up wutz good on it? Chic was like, "It's not that bad!". I been up here for a minute...she was right lmao!!! That joint started right up, was quiet, tranny was good. In Schenect., that's ok lol. It matches everything else around here. The 3 of them take off, and Im waitng in the caddy. Not even 2 minutes after they bounce, a squad car rolls up on the block, and I'm thinkin' what are the chances that they gonna fuck with this girl while she's test drivin' this ride. I chances are excellent wen dealin' with cops anywhere, but here, it's exponential. Like ten minutes go by, then I see these cats "walking", as they break around the corner. Then right behind them was popo, cutting them off in typical popo fashion. I'm like daaaaaammmnnnn!!! Was it a hit and run or some shit? Not even. Bad inspection sticker. When the cops seen them, they decided to park the car real quick n bounce. The girls liscence was suspended, so they got her for that, and they ticketed the guitarist also, obviously. Even my boy Wiz couldn't drive. The cops didn't tow the car, and said that we could tow it to the girl's house ourselves, but I would have to drive the caddy. Cool. We did that. We pull up, Im waiting for traffic before pulling into the driveway, and the guitarist is behind me in the other car, which is hooked to the caddy's trunk with a rope. Traffic flows, I flow, the other car didn't budge though. The bumper to the caddy was nearly pulled off. Dude's tight, I'm grinnin', he's bitchin. Well, shit happens u know lol. All is cool though. I heard that they completed the transaction later on...he got paid, she got a car.
     We should've stayed at the studio, bad things happen when u leave mid-session. The beat gods have taught me that lesson...long ago. Peace n Much Love!!!

Lovin' The Love!

Yo fam, just a couple of things I'd like to mention. First, Sorry for the delay on the tunes this previous week. The new jointz r definately comin'. Been so busy with other things, but it's all preparin' me for my move down south. (Anthony "Scoe", I can't wait to meet ya homie).

Technique!!!

Well hi peeps!!! I know it's been a while, but if u guys wanted blogs from me u'd holla for it, lol! I wanna touch on the topic of technique, in particular, one that I picked up way back in da day. Lucky for me I was a crate digger, like most if not all producers of my era. One of the greatest benefits to crate diggin', is the fact that u absorb oceans of musical info, for ex. rhythms, pitch, tempos, dynamics, styles, cultures, and who knows what the sub-conscious is taking in.

It never occured to me that I would end up memorizing gems that I would sample. I haven't had a vinyl collection in mad years, but when I need particular grooves I tend to dig deep into myself for albums I no longer own. Bugs me out trust me. I can recreate break-beats, basslines, horn & guitar lines, u name it.

So to my up n comin' producers out there, if u haven't tried it yet, it'll be worth ya time to look into it. After a while u won't even think about it, because it will be as natural as breathing. Start with your favorite loops, and simply 'listen', then do. How has this helped me? There's fluidity in my rhyhm section, that was never there before, but most importantly, "I Have Total Control" of the groove, not the other way around. I know we all love the sound of live drummers in our break beats, that's the magic of live players. Grab ya drum machine n sit next to a tight drummer. You'll end up wanting to mic his kit to get that same magic into ya lil' groove box, lol. That's real talk fam. Don't panic tho, because to maintain that magic, to an extent, u can dissect ya break-beat. CHOP FOR INSTRUMENTS!!! Grab the kick, snare, closed hat, open hat, congas, or what ever. Then recreate the break u chopped. Your breaks will be different, but in the best way. They will change from the original idea, into somethin' that is 'truly' yours. Check it out, and I definately wanna hear what some of u guys come up with. Peace n Much Love!!!
