Dear "The Media,"
We can't discern the news anymore because you have distorted, twisted and spun it to Oblivion. The 5th estate has failed us. The FCC is corrupt, the networks are corrupt, the mainstream media, all news organizations from news papers, to cable to talk radio to long standing broadcast networks; all corrupt. You are given license to the air waves that are owned by us to serve us. Instead you have taken that sacred trust and violated us with it. Media is powerful, and in the wrong hands, it can have catastrophic consequences worst than any weapon of mass destruction. We blame the politicians for being corrupt, congress the President who allowed the corporations to screw us over with sub prime market mess that threatens to throw our economy and our way of life down the crapper. But I also blame the media… asleep at the wheel, giving us useless stories about lipstick on the pig, pantsuits, Lindsay lohan, OJ Part 2, a Wide stance in mineapolis bathroom stalls, Nappy Headed Hoes, Michael Vick and Dog Fights, Pretty blond girls missing in paradise… sad, yes; interesting? Kind of but mostly useless meaningless crap. And then there is the imaginary divsive propaganda like the war on Christmas, Gay Marriage, Cindy Shehan and Code Pink, … Meanwhile, while the American media consumer was lulled into a stupor by this mindless crap on their flashy boxes, we all got the shaft. Does anyone remember the headlines on September 10, 2001? Let's see, there were stories about Anne Heche going crazy, the increase in Shark attacks, Gary Condit and Chandra Leavey, Michael Jordan about to announce a return to the NBA. Now I would bet you remember these stories. Why? That was what the media was telling us was important on the 10th of September 2001… well there was one other interesting tidbit that came up that I bet you don't remember. Don Rumsfeld trying to explain away $3.2 Trillion of misplaced American tax payer money. Yes we are all staggered by the headlines today of $700 Billion to bail out these greed heads on Wall Street, but Don Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense, the main man in the pentagram… uh pentagon, couldn't account for $3.2 Trillion. That's almost 5 times the amount of money involved in this bail-out. Not only did it not garner as much attention as Gary Condit and the missing white house intern he was diddling, but conveniently, the next day 9-11 happened. But don't bring that up or you are unpatriotic. Did the media do any sort of job reporting to explain the terrorist threat, the hatred bubbling in the middle east? Has the media since done any sort of job explaining the geopolitics of the region?… or are we too busy listening to idiots like Ann Coulter warn us of the liberal threat of Gay Marriage? No we are becoming the by-products of an over simplistic, shallow and meaningless media barrage. We are told we have to take sides.. Liberal or Conservative, Patriot or Pinhead, Left or Right. Soon, I predict an environmental disaster as we are once again lulled to sleep by lipstick wearing pigs, and reality style info-tainment debates that the media tells us we are supposed to be consumed with. Not that electing the next pres is important, but look at it. "Will the personal attacks against Barack Obama swing the Polls in McCain's Favor?" Who gives a sweet jesus?!?!?! What about their energy policy, or their Health Care Plans, or what they will do to regulate Wall Street so the next sub prime crisis doesn't happen? What about ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Iraq? Anyone remember that? How about Iran? Can you tell me their positions on any of these issues? My guess is no. Not well anyways… I don't blame you, I blame the media for tarting up the news… making it an episode of Survivor or American Idol. And I warn you, The media is asleep as the next disaster is looming… and they are taking us to bed with them. They are the ultimate waggers, and unfortunately... we are the dogs (Except Katie... She's a Bunnyrabbit).

WARNING OFFENSIVE CONTENT AHEAD:
Think of all the controversies around Sarah Palin. Is it her crazy brand of pentacostalism where she proclaimed the war in Iraq is God's task? Or the fact that she used her position as Governor to have an official fired, who wouldn't fire her sister's ex-husband. What about someone who would accept an invitation to be the 2nd most powerful position in the world, and be a heartbeat away from the most powerful person in the world if something should happen to 72 year-old 4 time cancer patient John McCain. All despite being a "family values" advocate with a infant down syndrome baby. Maybe its here abstinence only stance on sex education which obviously didn't work to well in her own family (17 year old Bristol is Preg-o). Of course there are the reports of back biting and clawing her way to the top of local politica,l heap in Alaska. Maybe the fact that she looked like a moose in the headlights when Charlie Gibson asked about the Bush Docterine. Maybe its the fact that she points to the fact that she is experienced in Geo-political matters because Alaska is close to Russia. Or that she has executive leadership experience because she was technically the head of the Alaska National Guard. Not too mention the Mayor of Wasilla, Population 9000. Maybe its that wierd, folksie northern accent she has. That she calls herself a Hockey mom, a bulldog with lipstick... whatever.
None of that is the reason I don't like her, I don't trust her. Its her husband. What kind of leadership can we expect from a woman who would marry someone named "Todd. No offense to Todd lovers out there, but come on Todd? I only met one Todd that was OK, and he was a crossed eyed born again Christian manager of a Burger King in Phoenix. He was Black who broke all stereotypes because his favorite band was Soundgarden. And When I made him a cassette tape (He didn't have a CD Player) with his favorite Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden and Mudhoney songs... he was so excited he kissed my hand. See His backwardness and his Toddness actually canceled each other out to make him cool. Other than that... I just don't like Todds. Can't explain it. Todds always like bands like the Smithereens... or something pretentious. They are like wearing someone elses glasses and it kind of makes you feel sick because you don't wear glasses. They agree with you politically but for all the wrong reasons. They name their kids Jengo, take too long to order, they pull out in front of you, they pretend to be into poetry or reggae to hit on your girlfriend. Todds get tribal arm tattoos, they wear mossimo... Todds give out candy circus peanuts at Halloween, They ride kawasaki motorcycles, wear oakleys and cavariccis... unless they are trying to be earthy Todd, in which case it's birkenstocks and fart spray. Todds call people "bro" and say things like "bro's before hoes dood" Thats right Todds spell dude... D-o-o-d, because of their Toddness. Nobody ever invites Todd, but he show's up anyways... he drinks all the beer, and never pays.... Todd calls them brewskees... Todd always tries to break into conversations he has no business in, and always screws up stories when he tells it. Todds Collect DC Comics... when Marvel is the way to go. Todds steal your idea and try to pass it off as their own. Todds are the ones responsible for the very lame jokes written in bathroom stalls. Todd's into Black Sabbath or Dread Zeppelin. Todd plays the obscure tracks on the Pixies album to prove he's alternative. You'd kick Todd's ass but everyone would think you were a jerk... besides Todd is just annoying, and never totally crosses that line. Todd is a pretend vegetarian, wears a pony tail. When Todd shows up at the party its a real buzz kill.
The only thing worse than a Todd, is someone who would actually marry one, and then name her kids Trig, Bristol.... (refernce to Jengo). Is this the kind of judgement we want in our leadership? Somone who was Hot, athletic... maybe even intelligent. Someone who could have anyone... all the guys are falling over each other to get with her... and she goes for who....? TODD... whats the matter Sarah, no IANs availabie? I know some people who have gotten involved with a Todd and some actually married a Todd. I still like these people... but wouldn't choose them to be VP. One of the signs of the apocolypse surely must be when a Todd makes it to the White house
Real quick.... I love the show Heroes.... They have taken so damn long to start their season, I almost don't care anymore. Sopranos pulled the same crap too. I'll probably watch.but I get annoyed with shows that take forever to develop... even though the plot is good, storylines are mixed (Some good some bad and you have to sit through the bad ones, like the twins from Mexico, to get to the interesting ones)... they do nothing but leave you hanging every week... never seem to satisfy. Best thing to do is Tivo several episodes, then watch, skip over commercials, and string together three or four episodes in one. Plus I feel guilty for thinking the cheerleader is Hot. She's all of 18 years old I just found out. way too young, but somehow... well you know. The girl who's supposed to be hot Nicki or Jessica... isn't too me anyways. Todd probably likes her.
Other things on my mind too... afraid I'll never get them out bc its late, and I have more marathon meetings tomorrow. I have hours and hours of work to catch up on, and I put in 11 hours again today. No wonder my life is falling apart.
I miss... something. Can't put my finger on it. but I miss it... *sigh* What is it? Whats missing. Anyone know? can anyone tell me? =(.....

Just saw Click with Adam Sandler. It is a tragic movie, more than a comedy. The Greeks used to write tragedies They used to be the intellectual and artistic and philosophical leaders of the world. The move 300 is based on the Greeks... Even when Rome conquered them, the mythologies, philosphies of the Greeks dominated and was adopted by the Romans. It makes me think about tragedies, because this stupid Adam Sandler movie made me think about life. I wonder if tragedies were so popular in ancient times because it left an uneasy feeling with the audience. Tragedies change life in the bllink of an eye. We don't stomach this kind of "entertainment" now-a-days. Our movies usually have happy endings, as did Click. They followed the same old tired formulaic Hollywood happy feeling at the end. "It was all just a dream.. or was it?" Wow, never seen that concept in a movie before. "He had a second chance" Another original Hollywood movie idea. Imagine if the movie had a tragic ending, like the Greeks used to put out there. Did the Greeks in their enlightenend culture know something we've lost through the ages. Did Greek theater attempt something bold like to change lives by leaving an impact with their audience; something that we just can't tolerate in modern times.
If you've seen this movie... just imagine it ended with Sandler's character lying in the street, in the rain, life having passed him by. Still, a silly movie, not in a comedic sense so much as stupid disbelief sense. Still it had an impact on me... even with the second chance, do-over, formulaic tie everthing up with a nice happy bow thanks to magic, and a dream.
I turned on ESPN Classic. 1987 Lakers vs. Celtics. Kareem, Magic, Parish, Bird. A youthful Pat Riley on the sidelines. Even the sportscasters who are still around today calling games in the NBA and NFL. Ok.. Danny Ainge still looks close to the same, but its 21 years later. I was just a kid back then, and barely remember the series. It's interesting because these athletes have a window of time. They are in their prime, young, rich, famous, their job has them in front of thousands of screaming fans every night, they are broadcast on TV across the county. But then... they get old.. life goes by. They can't play, they are not sought after or able to do the things they could athletically. Especially in the USA... and sadly especially with women; people are often seen as less valuable as they get older.
I keep thinking about the things I want to accomplish in my life, So many things. Once I got past thirty, I felt starting to slip away. Things that I have always wanted to do, but haven't gotten to it. Like get my blackbelt, learn to be a musician. Things I have some experience in, but have never had a chance to follow through. Still so many goals, i have plenty of time to acomplish. Like getting a law degree, talk radio, engineering, build some of the inventions or ideas I have. I have a few books I want to write. I still want to change the world.
Now I have two boys, and I find myself feeling frustrated with time. I spend a lot of time working. I do my job, and I am surrounded by some people who manage to slip out of the office a little early. I am pretty sure the rest of their day is spent in front of a TV. Their goal is to do as little as possible, get home, eat, and be entertained. I get stuck doing their work, taking on a lot. I end up working late often. I keep thinking I want to work out today, spend some time with my boys, work on my podcast... but have given most of my energy to my job. I care about my work, I have a lot of pride in what I do. But I can't count on others to carry their own weight. For sure, nobody outside of my own staff ever steps up to help me. I, on the other hand, am constantly helping others do their job. Staying late to help out... knowing full well that it is never reciprocated.
Then I come home tired, and I get no support or help at home. Just that bills are behind, because they aren't being paid, so many broken things. But the worst thing is having nobody to talk too. I am lucky though, I have friends... real friends who I can relate to on a more than superficial level. My problems at home and work are a whole other subject.
The thing is, all of the work, and time and frustration having to do everything for everyone all the time, and I can't even have a decent conversation when I get home. Meanwhile life is floating by, just like in the Adam Sandler movie... all of my goals, all of the things I want to do with my kids... slipping away. its tragic really. I've never been one to stay stuck for long. Eventually I always find a way to break through, and I will again, very soon. It may make some people upset or maybe not, but life is too short, and I have a lot of work to do. I have a lot of goals to acheive, and a world to change. More importantly I have boys to raise, values to impart, things I want them to know, learn and have that I wished I had gotten from my parents.
Fall is almost here... season changes are a great excuse to make changes... and I love change. Positive change, even if its uncomfortable. I have had enough... evil people from wicked step sisters, to narcisistic fool hearted people who I have went out on a limb to help, who thank me by trying (failing, but still trying) to destroy my life, and my kids life. I had people die on me in the past year, had my in-laws turn their back on me instead of try and help when I needed them. I have seen the person who should be there no matter what, prefer tv shows... not even good tv shows... really lame ones... over having a conversation. Even my church has given up trying to help my situation. My raise at work put off because of workforce planning issues, so everyone in my department got promoted except me and my one employee. No one talked to us about it, or explained it. We finally had to ask 3 months later, what is happening before anyone offered us an explanation. My car is broken, and I can't afford to get it out of the shop. I'm hungry and have no food in the house, no car to go anywhere... I have been knocked down, disrespected, betrayed, disappointed, and just plain kicked. Mischaracterized, misunderstood, misled... and I couldn't be more excited. I have done my best to take the high road on every count. It has stretched my faith to the breaking point... My life is full of dramatic ups and downs... very few in-betweens. Something really really good is on the horizon I sense it. The down side of life has been dramatic, the up-side will be awesome. I have had unbelievable adversity that only God knows all about. I have been seen through it all... I feel tremendously discouraged and humbled by life, and people. Still I try to be a good person, try to do the right thing. I have gotten so close to not caring and that is a very powerful place. What can you take from a person who doesn't want anything anymore? Take it all... I surrender it all, and for some reason that is when the best things come... things I wouldn't even think to ask for. So many people want me to fail right now. i'm glad for this. Keep talking, I hear every word said at work, at family gatherings where I'm no longer welcome. The gossip, the delight in seeing the bad things happening to me. I'm still standing, and not by my own power. So read on... tell your friends. I'm not going to seek revenge, or retaliate. Just wait, and watch, and stay tuned. Remember: great minds discuss ideas, average mids discuss events, small minds discuss people.
Also.. I mean this... I completely forgive you to the best of my ability. My door is open, if you want to clear the air with me, call me. All that stuff about life being too short. It is too short for bitter hearts. I have more reason than most to be bitter. I'm close but its still not in my nature. I think I have tried to reach out to anyone I have had problems with. I don't expect anyone to be reasonable when it comes to their family... so I don't expect to hear from Karen's family, but anytime I get a call from anyone who simply asks if they can talk to me, and are sincere, I am here. i am lonely, but I have good friends. I won't be lonely forever... I hope. Time is running out... dramatic things are going to happen. Is this how things will be left? I am at peace either way. I know whats true in my heart, and I have learned a lot from my mistakes. I don't stubbornly assume I am always right. I know none of you need me or care if i am around or not. but someday, you might.

Right before I go to bed I have to turn on the radio or talk radio on the net, or my own thoughts will keep me up at night. My mind can race!
I think about random things like:
Is there really a God? What will my boys be like in a few years? Why doesn't anyone understand me? Does our perception of the world effect the worlds reality? Does other peoples perception of me effect my reality? Why is it so hard to believe in aliens? I wonder what Other people are thinking about? Why do people like reality TV so much? Why does it hurt when I pee? Was 9-11 an inside job? Why do I feel like the world is about to end as we know it? Wonder what Heather is doing now... Why do I devote so much energy to my work? Why can't people figure things out? How could anyone believe in Mormonism... or Islam for that matter. Why are we killing the planet? If Ice shelfs are melting why do people still deny Global warming... don't they have kids? Why do rich white guys rule everything? Why do we have to age, get older. Why do we have to sleep? When will computers be easy to use, and will they ultimately replace everyone? How can some people do such evil things, especially to me, when I love them so much. Who would win, wolverine or spiderman? Thing oir the Hulk? Marvel or DC? Why doesn't everyone realize how hillarious the Jerky boys are? Are the Suns too old this year? Do we have a chance? Didi the Republicans rig the election... could that many people vote for bush... usually we vote for style or substance... He has neither. Will CERN Open a Blackhole and swallow the Indian Ocean?
I could go on forever.... my stream of consciousness never stops.
What do you think about at night before you fall asleep? Am I the onl person who wonders about this kind of crap?

Sorry... With the shear volume of crap happening in politics, media, and the start of skool... I had to unplug. Its all too much, surreal, unbelievable amount of sanctimony. Sometimes, I hate this world... lose faith in humanity. How does anyone watch or listen or consume any amount of media and not want to drill their eyeballs out of the their sockets. I'm surrounded by zombies, so dumbed down by their flashy tv boxes. I've also been reflecting on personalities of people I have cared about. The indifference, narcisism, deception, hypocracy... and then seeing those qualities in myself. Forget about it... all of it. I'm unplugged for a while. I need to recharge. I am concentrating on exercise, enjoying the weather, spending time with my real friends. waiting for the bounce.
So sorry i haven't been keeping up w/blog lately or writing back to so many of you. Give me a few more daze, i'll be back to my old new self, after i cocoon awhile. make sense? it will....

A Christian Pastor who just came as close as any I have ever heard to putting politics and the Church in their proper perspective. I've listened to Chip Ingram for several years. He is my favorite Christian Pastor. His Radio ministry is Living On The Edge. I usually listen to his daily podcast before I go to work. Chip is in the middle of an apolegetic series called: Let My People Think. He tackled the issue of the church and politics. He got it right in a way no other pastor I have listened to has gotten it right. Its almost like Chip was reading my blog... although I'm pretty sure the message was recorded way before I even considered having a MySpace Page. If you're interested in hearing it:

Current mood: argumentative
This is going to make lots of people mad. It needs to be said.
The issue of Abortion is back in the forefront of yet another presidential campaign. I like Rick Warren, but come on with the fallout from the debate. All anyone heard was abortion... and again here come the one track mind, single issue, narrowly focus, one trick pony, throw the baby out with the bathwater, certifiable loons This is the number one issue that an alarming number of people will vote on. TO THOSE WHO WILL VOTE ON THIS ISSUE: YOU ARE WASTING YOUR VOTE.
Abortion is bad. I believe life begins at conception. 40 million abortions since Roe v Wade, is beyond comrehension. If anyone is thinking of abortion, please, please, please consider the alternatives. I have known people who have gone both ways. I promise if you make the choice to give birth to your baby, you will never regret it. Whether you go with adoption, or raising a child alone it is better than the risks. I am not a woman, and would never pretend to understand the feelings, both emotionally and physically that pregnancy, especially an unplanned one would bring. I just know that many women suffer after having an abortion. Emotionally and physically. I have said over and over I follow the evidence, and formulate my opinions accordingly. Once a child is conceived, it is life. The science is just that clear.
I know I have upset half of the world with those comments. Now for the rest of you: DO you want to stop abortion? Stop voting for republicans! They have had 20 of the past 28 years and have not outlawed it. It will never be outlawed, the genie is out of the bottle.
Ask yourself why people get abortions. Poverty, hopelessness, having to face something as daunting as having a child with no support. The breakdown of the American Family. Why does this happen? here's some obvious reasons: 1) Societal values declining - Media, oversexualizing our culture... FOX Entertainment is at the forefront despite the conservative/Republican Slant of FOX NEWS. Rupert Murdoch Loves Money above values. MTV/Viacom is up there too. 2) Breakdown of the Family. a. two parents have to work full time to make ends meet because our corporations don't provide a living anymore. Read previous blogs for more details b. Cost of living ($4 a gallon gas which effects everything else), means working sometimes 2 jobs to make ends meet. 3) Tax breaks for the wealthy + Expensive never ending war + Devaluing of the American Dollar = cuts in social welfare.
Yeah its a bad word: "Welfare" thanks to crazy right wingers spouting off about crap they don't understand. Welfare in its intended context is supposed to be about the Welfare and well being of women and children. Welfare goes to help people in crisis. Cut the Welfare and of course troubled women have abortions.
4) Devaluation of human life. WAR! how many soldiers have we lost? How many innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan have died? Not the terrorists... I have no sympathy for them... I mean the innocent families trapped in the crossfire of war. War = death of innocent life. How hypocritical is it to support optional war and to decry abortion. Both equal death of human life. Do you know why you don't know how many innocent people have died in these foreign countries? Because you are desensitized. Not because the media hasn't reported it. The answer is tens of thousands of have died in Iraq and Afghanistan, and I couldn't even give the exact number off the top of my head. Believe me, between the media portraying death as entertainment... and the morbitiy of TV documentaries. (Courttv, Dateline NBC, ID, A&E, Discovery Channel, TrueTV. Turn on your TV guide and look at the shows: True Stories of the FBI, 48 Hours, Dateline NBC, Forensic Files, Cold Case Files, Mystery Diagnosis and on and on), AND the surreal reality show quality of 24 hour cable news where the focus is always death, war. Its no wonder we are so desensitized. Abortion is very sterile in comparison to this culture of Death brought on by the media and the Republicans!
And then there is the extreme crazy abortion clinic bombers, doctor killers etc. But thats a whole other rant.
You want to stop Abortion (I definately do)?!?!? I hate to say it... because I really can't stand Hillary Clinton.. but she had a good quote, that someone undoubtedly wrote for her... Abortion should be safe, legal and rare. If there was a medical circumstance where abortion was necessary to save a mother's life, or if a person was the victim of rape or incest.. I can see a reason for abortion... Maybe in some extreme situation where the life wasn't viable. (BTW, the stats on these circumstances are far less that 1% of all abortions annually)
Its late, but I want to give you some issues I think are far more important than abortion in selecting the next president.
1) A Sane energy Policy 2) HealthCare 3) The Enviornment 4) Education 5) International/ Foreign Policy 6) Protection of Constitutional Liberties. 7) Fiscal Responsibility (Stop selling our debt to CHINA!) 8) Increase in the Federal Minimum Wage 9) Research into Science and Medicine 10) Open Government 11) Tax cuts for middle and lower class families (increase the standard deduction for children!)
By supporting these issues, we are likely to impact abortion in positive ways. Some republican ideas are good too: well one I can think of. The faith based initiative. But John McCain is not going to outlaw abortion, nor will the supreme court overturn Roe V Wade. Republicans always think they can force people to do their will. But they just don't understand human nature. War on Drugs is a failure, forced prohibition was a failure, The stupid war on music with the PRMC or whatever it was = failure (I know Tipper Gore a democrat headed this up), contract with America (1994) = Failure. If you want to cure a disease, you have to treat its cause not the symptom. Abortion is one of many symptoms of the societal ailments. Narcisism, consumerism, conservatism, extremism and on and on.
There, I think everybody hates me now. After what i've been through in my personal life, i'm almost getting used to it. And you know what?!?!? The more this world kicks me around the less I care what other people think. I haven't felt this good since I shaved my head...(The first time)!
Oh yeah... the podcast. It's coming, I promise. I rewired my studio I have a great partner lined up, I'm sure she'll be far more interesting, but I can squeeze in some of my ramblings and it will be very entertaining. Stay tuned.

Its a rhetorical question, everyone should ask when they consume media. There is not much you can do from being affected by the media. It is ever more pervasive in our lives, and it influences us whether we realize it or not. Asking this simple question is the all important first step in understanding, and deciphering the media influences in our lives. What is the motivation of what is being presented to you. What is the underlying agenda. It is almost never as clear as it seems. So we have a choice, try and understand the media we consume, or be consumed by it.
I once got into a debate about global warming and the enviornment with an avid Rush Limbaugh listener. Someone who has bought into his views hook, line and sinker. He is a veteran, and is a major Bush supporter. He suggested that because I thought gas prices were too high, I was a liberal. Here we go.... I'll address this shortly. Anyways, hopefully you have heard Rush's view about Global Warming, It's not a problem, it's not human caused. Increasing temperatures are actually good for the earth. Melting Ice caps won't cause flooding because when Ice Cubes melt in a glass of water, the water doesn't overflow.... then for fun, he discredits anyone who believes in enviornmental responsibility as an Enviornmental Whacko, Tree Hugger, Liberal. Opposing Rush are over 90% of actual climatologist, not too mention the majority of people who can at least see the obvious. This person went on to suggest that Al Gore and John Kerry get their point of view about the enviornmenmt from Barbara Striesand at these big Hollywood liberal parties.
Once somebody says something like this to me, it is obvious that arguing logic or presenting facts are not going to influence this person. I also know that this person and I will both get heated and in an emotional argument instead of a civilized discussion of facts. Its a waste of time to try and convince this person. It just wasn't worth it, but then a question occurred to me. I asked this person... "Why?"
"Why What?"
"Why does Barbara Streisand want to fool us into believing that there is a global warning threat. What is her motivation?"
"Well... I don't know, but I'm sure it's for selfish reasons"
I stopped right there. The question is profound, yet simple and applicable to so many other questions in our life. Rush has a lot of motivation. He supports the Republican Party, who is supported by big oil, coal etc. He has friends in the industry that would be most affected if global warming was accepted by society as it has already been proven by science. Barbara Striesand's motivation is she IS a bleeding heart liberal who believes big corporations are evil. She believes Global warming is real, and sadly, she thinks she has some credibility. She comes across as ditzy and is an easy target for the right wing hacks.
I try and keep my motivations clear in my own mind. The most frustrating thing that everyone can relate to is that we undermind ourselves all the time. We want to diet, but end up eating bad things, or try to develop a good habit, or break a bad one, and we fail. There are psychological reasons for this that lie deep in the recesses of our consciousness. I think this is similar to our thinking with politics. If my motivation is to get ahead financially, or make the world habitable for my kids, why would I ever put myself into a political box? Am I Conservative, Liberal? How about: Neither.
I will follow the best evidence presented in the purest framework possible and form my opinions based on that alone.
Most scientist believe global warming is a real problem. I know I am disposed to be a fatalist, but it seems more likely that the motivation of the scientist is to save humanity and the eco system. The motivation from the oil company funded scientists who present a contrary point of view is obvious. Its as obvious as when the tobacco industry executives went in front of congress and swore under oath that there is no proof that tobacco products cause any harmful effects.
Same logic applies to trying to get ahead. Why would I want to elect someone who wants to over tax me. That is why elections are all about choosing the lesser of two evils.
I have a lot of opposite views on things if you try and view me through the political spectrum. But it makes a lot of sense when you think of people as unique, thinking individuals. I am not a Liberal because I think gas prices are too high, or that we shouldn't even be burning fossil fuels. I am a clear thinking patriotic American. I am not fooled by the decidedly unamerican stance that the oil industry is good. Anyone who defends the oil industry in this country is UnPatriotic, UnAmerican, anti-family, anti-business, anti- enviornment, anti-middle class, pro-terrorism, pro-fascism. The fact that we haven't converted away from oil in 70's during the last oil crisis tells me that lobbying dollars from the oil industry are more important to our "leaders" than national security, the economy etc.
I have been saying for almost 7 years that we need to get off fossil fuels. If global warming isn't convincing enough, how about funding terrorism, how about the simple fact that buring fossil fuels emit carbon monoxide which deadly. Then there is all the pollution ruining the beautiful blue sky. How about the fact that it just isn't necessary. There are better ways. In the 1940's this country mobilized itself for war against evil forces. In the 1960's a real leader challenged this country to put someone on the moon. In the last 10 years, computing power and technology has more than doubled. Every area of technology has seen very impressive leaps in power, innovation, and improvement. However, since the 1970's we just can't make the move from fossil fuels. We still have to dig in the ground, pull out dead organic material, refine it and burn it? There is just no better way? There is just no better technology than cumbustable engines. there are just no alternatives to fossile fuel.
One more rant within a rant: The thing that makes America great is our innovation, creativity, and our will. We invented automobiles, rock-n-roll, computers, telephones, the internet, airplanes, I-Pods, DVDs, nuclear bombs and more cures and medicines than any other nation in the world. Our movies, music and culture are the envy of the world.
Innovation, invention, leadership are as American as ... well you fill in the blank. Supressing technology, innovation and invention is not just UnAmerican... it is Evil. It's evil because it is forsaking not just the USA and its economy for selfish greed, it is foresaking the future of the planet for our children and grandchildren so the oil industry, unscrupulous speculaters and the Islamic theocratic countries can enjoy unprecedented profits. The largest in history.
Whos is guilty in this. NO, not the SUV driving soccer moms. Or the HUMMERS. I think these things are execessive, but believe in our right to buy and drive whatever we want. I wish people thought about gas mileage and enviornmental impact etc, but $4 a gallon gas is influencing this industry enough.
I blame our corrupt politicians, and soul-less corporate leaders in BP, Texeco, Mobile/Cheveron, Royal Dutch (SHELL), and on and on. We buy from Saudi Arabia, Venezuala. Home of islamic extremism and socialist/communism. If the right wing is railing against these groups so much, why not lend your rhetorical talents to getting this country off of oil?!?!? Oh, yeah... I forgot. Dick Cheney was a ceo in Haliburton, and the Bush Family are oil people. If you criticize the oil industry, or hurt by convincing americans to get off it, you won't get your cookie, or the ole' scratch behind the ears from your masters.
The suggestion that we have to drill, that we can't change infrastructure fast enough, that existing technology (the combustable engine which is 100 years old) is too deeply ingrained, is: BS.
For my right wing friends: I believe in lower taxes, smaller government, fiscal responsibility, right to own and carry firearms. I believe in personal accountibility, I think we should have the worlds largest and strongest military, I believe we need to stop the flow of illegal immigration, I am against affirmative action. I believe in our right to privacy. I believe in family values.
Why? because all of those things are in our best interest as a society. I have even more beliefs that fall on the right side of the spectrum... but please don't call me a Republican.
Of course global warming is real. You can label anyone who believes it anyway you want. Call me a whack-o, Liberal, tree hugger. I'm still right, and you know it.
Since the right-wing often ties it self to Christian faith. Let me quote some things from the Bible that relate to the true motivation in our hearts. Next time you put forth a point of view that benefits you, but you know in your heart of hearts is not in the best interest to the everyone else, remember these verses:
Hebrews 4:13
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account
Luke 16:14-15 :
The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. 12 He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.
There are dozens of other verses, especially in Proverbs that warn that in the end, no matter what you endorse, support, champion etc, the true motivation for position will be revealed and we'll be judged accordingly. This one also just popped into my mind:
I think it's Proverbs 10 - He who walks in Integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his way will be found out.
Are you listening Rush? You have many people fooled, even brainwashed. You are a lot of things but your no dummy. You know exactly what your doing, and why. You are making a lot of money to be divisive, decieptful and insincere. But I as a Christian... not without my own faults... believe you will answer for it one day. I hope you will consider telling the truth, changing your ways before its too late.
