MYTHOLOGY delivers the intense horror-show instrumentals that made Earthworm's debut album stand out as a unique project, but this time around the band also breaks out into a broader spectrum of musical influences. The 9 tracks on this album cross borders of eerie ambient electronic music, ultra heavy industrial metal, drum and bass, and bleak post-punk rock.

These diverse influences are held together by the heavy, tribal, big-beat live drums and layers of sound that build upon each other creating a sense of dramatic darkness. The album has a hypnotic "soundtrack to a movie in your head" quality, even on the tracks that include vocals and more traditional song structures.

Earthworm is a collaboration between musician & producer Matt Collins and drummer Mike Varian, that was written and recorded between 2006-2007. MYTHOLOGY is the second album from Earthworm.

The new Earthworm album, "Mythology" is finally nearing completion, I have mastered most of the tracks, and just need to clean up a few details before it's ready to be released.

I began working on this project last year, while we were recording some drums to finish up the last Earthworm album "The Infernal Device" and we ended up having far more than we needed. Those sessions became the basis for a whole new batch of songs that took on a life of their own, and sort of moved away from the "nightmare soundtrack" type of stuff that was on the first album.

There is still a darkness and a kind of creepy vibe to the new album, but there's also a lot more variety and a lot of genre-clashing. I listen to so many different kinds of music and I think there is a good cross section of influence that is reflected in the songs on this album, but they all still sound like "Earthworm" to me. The dynamic range of sounds is wider than anything I have done so far, and even though one track has intense heavy guitar, and another song is more upbeat and electronic blips and bleeps, they're just different shades of the same color as far as I see it. And I think overall the album plays more like a story that unfolds and twists and turns, which is good.

Anyway, there are a few tracks on the myspace to preview, and the full album should be ready soon. Cheers- Matt
