To keep everyone in the  loop as we write & record our 2nd album we plan to post sketches and drafts of the tunes that may end up on the album.  Keep in mind that these are not finished and ultimately may not be published on that album.

The first one we're posting is called "Thoughts You Send".  It's kind of a trippy little thing.  Please share your thoughts -- do you love it hate it or have any ideas as to how we can make it better.

Suffolk 'n' Cool, a folk blog and podcast, included our tune prairies!  We'd like to thank them & their support.  The site is its name.

We are now releasing our entire 1st album in free download format which you can get at Last.FM.  After much soul searching we've determined that we'd rather have people hear & enjoy our music than locking it up and hoping that people buy it. 

The concept is Listener Supported Music, a concept that has been in use in radio for years.  CKUA here in Calgary is almost entirely funded by its listener base.  In this era of free music the onus is on the listener to ensure that bands they enjoy continue to create music. 

If you get enjoyment out of our music there are ways to help us out:

Ours To Destroy will be playing their last show until the summer of 2009 at the Canmore Hotel on Friday November 28th starting at 10  pm.  We plan to focus on writing and recording our second full length album funded by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts until this summer which is why we're taking hiatus until the summer.

And to those of you that we havent replied to on email, messages here...wherever.  Please accept my sincerest apologies.  It seriously has been one hell of a three months.  Some in good ways, but mostly in bad ways...kinda like the market, volatile as hell and generally downhill.  But, I'm glad to say, it's almost mostly over.

 

North By NorthEast Festival

We're hitting the air (road?) tomorrow at 1 pm straight on to Toronto for this summer's North By NorthEast festival.  Here's our itinerary:

1) Friday June 13, 2008 noon to 3:30 pm @ the Indie Market tent 2.  It's at Yonge & Dundas (cant miss it apparently).  Pop on by to say hi!

2) Friday June 13, 2008 9 pm @ Lee's Palace with Besnard Lakes & Swervedriver. 

3) Saturday June 14, 2008 7 pm @ NXNE Island Stage on Toronto Island for an outdoor gig.  Please don't bring any rain.

Other than that we'll be hanging out and absorbing the atmosphere, some conferences, and tonnes of wicked indie music from around the world.

Larry & His Flask and Vern's Tavern

We played Vern's Tavern on Sunday June 8th and had a blast opening for Larry and His Flask from Portland Oregon.  These guys put on a phenomenal show!  They literally exploded across the stage, bar, tables, chairs...you get the idea.  I've never seen so much energy exuded by four people.  Oh ya, and they're music is super!  Check them out and, even better, try to catch their live show on their current tour across Canada.  I think they are currently somewhere between Thunder Bay & Toronto.

Ours To Destroy Live at Broken City has been released.  It features interviews and live performance footage from our gig at Broken City in Calgary in December 2007.

There's been a change in venue for our NXNE showcase.  We are no longer playing the Black Bull.  This is good news.  We are now playing Lee's Palace at 9 pm opening for Swervedriver & Besnard Lakes!!!  Also playing are Uncut & The Last Days of April. 

In addition to this show we will be playing the Island Stage on Toronto Island Saturday June 14th at 7 pm.  We hope to see you there!!

As part of our prep for our tour to Toronto for this summer's NXNE festival we're playing at Vern's on 622 8th Ave SW on Sunday June 8th starting at 8 pm. 

We're opening for Larry's Flask from Oregon and tickets cost $6 at the door.  Come out and support local Calgary independent music and have a beer or two with the band in celebration of their trip out East!

Just letting our Eastern friends know that Ours To Destroy will be venturing out from the safety of their insular cow infested Calgary culture to hit the NXNE festival June 2008. 

We will be playing the Black Bull at 298 Queen Street West at 9 pm on Friday June 13th (ooo scary!) 

Hope to see you there!  This is a homecoming, of sorts, for me as I lived in Toronto for five years & grew up in Ontario...it will be cool to see how much has changed!
