'The Fat Cats' formed in 1990. The Fat Cats original members are Wes Horn (bass and vocals) from Dilworth, Minnesota, and Steve Ingberg (Drummer) from Fargo, North Dakota. Wes and Steve were both former members of a popular Fargo based cover band called The Debonaires. From that point on 'The Fat Cats' have evolved into the band they are today.
The Fat Cats original guitar player Dave Bednars left shortly after the arrival of lead guitar player Richard Duffney. In 1992 the band recruited lead singer and front man Doug Newman (Big Bapa). Doug and Richard had been involved since high school and played together from 1972 until about 1985 in countless projects and groups.
Prior to 'The Fat Cats', Big Bapa had been touring with Fargo Moorhead based cover band ShyBoy. Both ShyBoy and the Debonaires were voted, in the Fargo Forum, Fargo/Moorhead's most popular and favorite bands 3 years running.
The Fat Cats added and subtracted a few members. In 1994 lead guitar, keyboardist, and vocalist Kerry Boyd was recruited. Kerry had also been a member of The Debonaires but at the time was living in Atlanta, Georgia. So the guys unloaded the band trailer and Steve drove down to Georgia to pick up Kerry and his newly wed wife Terrie and brought them back to Minnesota. A week later he was on stage with 'The Fat Cats' at an abate rally in northern Minnesota. Kerry turned out to be a natural fit for the group.
'The Fat Cats' have been fortunate to thrill their audiences throughout the midwest. The venues they performed at considered them a huge success and always brought them back when the band was available.
In 1995 the band turned its attention to writing and recording and feverishly completed their first project entitled 'The Fat Cats : RUB'.
In 2000 'The Fat Cats' had grown weary from gigging and going through over twelve different drummers with the absence of Steve due to injury. Honestly, in a few short years we went through more drummers than Spinal Tap. One of whom was Michael Shannon, inductee of Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, former drummer of the Uglys, Cadillac, The Fat Cats, among others, was tragically stricken with cancer. Michael, coincidently was mentor and taught Steve how to drum. (Personal Note): Mike insisted on putting the woodwork in our bathroom. He said, "That way, every morning, while you are taking care of business, you can think of me." And we do. Another talented drummer lost to tragedy was Todd Blatsky from Fargo, North Dakota. Todd was injured while at work and totally shattered his wrists. All of which happened while the Fat Cats were reaching an apogee in their musical careers.
After going through a succession of drummers, tired and discouraged, the band decided to slow down and quit touring so intensely. They informed their agents G.M.A., Mpls, R.A.M., St.Paul, and Headliner Talent, Int. and others they would no longer be touring. They quit maintaining their website and called it quits.
However, because of the news of 'The Fat Cats' and their rising reputation of being the ultimate party band as well as CD sales from their first project that had been circulating, the group had seemed to develop a following and a life of its own. Despite the fact that each member had an unlisted phone number, no agent representation, no website, and made absolutely no effort whatsoever to book engagements, venues, festivals, resorts, and clubs alike out of nowhere managed to resource a contact that somehow knew how to get ahold of one of the members to secure an engagement. This may be hard to believe but not only did this keep the guys performing even more than they wanted to, but most of their highest paying and highest profile engagements have come to them in this state of limbo.
With the return of Steve, their original drummer, 'The Fat Cats' have matured into a tight groove band. Each member has been said by music critics to master the stage with distinct personalities of their own, as a group with common vision while still allowing each member to showcase their skills and musical prowess with each of their instruments.
Today, 'The Fat Cats' are really starting to really shake up the music scene, getting air play, playing high profile gigs and sharing the stage with rock legends such as:
The Wall Flowers, The Goo Dolls, Stone Temple Pilots, Live, God Smack, Boston, Puddle of Mud, ZZ Top, Switchoot, Match Box Twenty, REO Speedwagon, Poison, Three Days Grace, Marshal Tucker, Everclear, Little Feat, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Romantics, Tesla, Eric Burdon, Head East, The Spinners, Kentucky Head Hunters, The Georgia Satillites, Grand Funk Rail Road, Cracker, Jackyl, John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band, The Byrds, and many more.
Currently, 'The Fat Cats' are writing and recording their soon to be released cd yet to be entitled, and playing to national and international audiences, appearing annually at Dragfest, Terrace Bay, Ont.,Canada; repeat engagements in San Pedro, Belize, Central America, with offers to tour Europe and the U.K. and exclusive resorts in Mexico and community events through out the states.
Today the guys all say they have a whole new fire motivating them and 'The Fat Cats' have shifted into high gear! Starting a whole new chapter in the lives of these veteran musicians as well as having access to a pool of other musicians and friends to add to the mix if the engagement and budget allows for live performances and/or any recording project they are currently working on.

Just wanted everyone to know we are a featured artist on Reverbnation and we have a new song that we've recorded . The Song "No One" (Should Feel This Way) composed and authored by our good friend Nita Velo. We were moved to record the song not only because it's well written, and it is. But because the song deals with an issue near and dear to many of our hearts is those who suffer from P.T.S.D. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Many of us have family members that have served in the Armed Forces serving thier country.  Generations of men and women have laid it all on the line serving selflessly for the sake of us and country and now suffer from P.T.S.D..  We want to raise awareness of this becuase it effect all of us and especially the families of those with who have served in combat units and as medics. What really concerns us as parents and Loved ones of those currently is how many tours they are having to serve. Many are serving just way too many tours. My Son, who serves in a National Gaurd, combat infantry  unit no more than got home from Bosnia for a year tour,  were call up six months later to serve a two year tour in Iraq. He's been home for about two years. He was wounded twice, came home with a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, has been diagnosed as being 60% physically disabled and with P.T.D. yet has been caaled up to go to Afganastan in April. WHAT!!!!!  Me Thinks I protest to little. Seems to me and other families with Loved one serving in the military, is they're just dipping into the well too many times. This puts  unimaginable amount off strain and stress on military staff and families of those serving. Emotionally, Mentally and Physically. It must be stopped. Hope you'll check this song out, as well as helping us raise awareness  to our friends and communities while supporting those who have served us and family's that have been effected.

In light of the recent economic issues, have you been wondering where your voice comes in? Have you considered where this country is going and how that will affect you? The following article contains some of my observations which you may or may not have considered before.

Bailouts. Now this isn't a partisan issue because if you remember, the Reps started bailing companies out in '08 to the tune of $750,000,000,000 I think that seven hundred and fifty billion dollars. Now the Dems are doing it in '09. And in Grand Fashion. Of course who know how much really goes where as I guess Law Makers didn't have time to read the bill. However they did manage to borrow more money from China off of credit from the unborn. I just say bailouts because I've totally lost track of how many have been bailed out and how much it has cost. The reason is because We're all too busy worrying about paying taxes. All of them- property tax, sales tax, income tax at the federal, state and local level. And of course, there's the gas tax as well.

We're busy paying our house and car insurance, plus insurance on all the other items like the boat, the motorcycle, and the snowmobile. Let's not forget medical and dental insurance, plus the electric bill, water bill, gas bill, heat bill, not to forget the phone bill, the internet bill, and the cable TV bill. And the banks are in there waiting for the mortgage payment.

So, are you seeing my point? We, you and I, are working our lives away to pay our gov't, to pay huge corporations like insurance companies, medical facilities, energy companies and the banks. In reality, most of our monthly paychecks go to these people. This is true for all lower and middle income people and for small businesses. So, all the money all these companies are getting from all of us isn't enough to ensure they make a profit? Why Not? Because they know it doesn't matter how they run their businesses, the gov't will just bail them out anyway. What about Wall Street, the huge banks, oh yeah and the pharmaceutical companies. Doesn't it seem to you that anyone with money and an agenda can buy law-making power? However, I think they may have dismissed how much power we would have if, we all used our voices in a united, common vision and purpose. We just need to quit being so complacent. Think about it, we're probably two- thirds of this country's population, considering they are not biased, in any way, when it comes to getting in our pocketbooks. They want to make us all their slaves and they aren't discriminating by ethnicity or religion.
Here's the lie we have been led to believe. Here's what enslaves us. First we get out of high school, where we have been taught that we will need a college degree to get a good job. So we take out school loans because we can't get enough grants. This is the start of our enslavement to debt. Oh yeah, this is when the credit card companies start sending you their offers which are targeted specifically to college kids. Why? Because they know they will be able to charge them late fees, penalties, and a whole lot of compounded interest when they are unable to meet their obligations. These companies are depending on 'Mom and Dad' to pay the bill, so that their child's credit won't be wrecked. Isn't Citibank one of the banks getting bailed out? A trap and more debt. Then, in order to get to our job, which may or may not be in our chosen profession, we will have to finance a car. As we embark on our career, we possibly decide to get married, so we need a house, which we finance, of course. And furniture for the new house, financed. The first car is shot, so we finance a new car. Then we may want a boat, a motorcycle, a snowmobile-- all financed. Then there's the new gadgets the world comes up with, and because we are told these will make us happy, and improve the quality of our lives. This is the illusion of the American Dream.

I just don't understand why they think we will just keep going along with it all. Of course, we are somewhat to blame. We Americans have had it pretty good for the last few years. Even through the seeming "good times", our gov't has appeared to be only out for itself and these huge corporations. But since we have all been doing ok, we have been just going along, closing our eyes to the preliminaries leading up to what's going on. We have grown accustomed to instant gratification.
It's the instant gratification attitude that has gotten us here. Our citizens have fallen into this attitude with the help of all these conglomerations, the media (which is a conglomeration all its own), and the special interest groups who, for some reason, decided they are our spokespeople. This instant gratification is the reason we are financed to the hilt, and now can't make all the payments. We eat instant food, which is making us fatter and fatter. We can have our paychecks instantly deposited and our payments instantly withdrawn. All in the name of saving time. So what are we using our extra time for? To work more, so we can pay for all the 'stuff' we own! We aren't using it to spend more time with our families or even so we have more time to use our stuff. This instant gratification mentality just seems mental to me. We have been led to believe that this will make us happy, but you know as well as I do, that once you get what you wanted, you realize you're not any happier, and you have to work extra just to pay for it. Until the next thing comes along that we think will bring happiness, and the cycle goes on. Materialism and Credit runs our minds and our country today.
It made me happy to see the TEA parties that took place across the country this past month. This is what we, as Americans, need to do; we need to stand up and say, "I'm not going to take it anymore!" Are you as sick of it as we are? Do you feel like you're screaming to be heard, but there's a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach that's telling you your voice will never be heard?

It's time to let these greedy, manipulative companies know we are sick of all of it and we're not going to be silent anymore! This is where I'm at. This is why I, Doug Newman and The Fat Cats have written a song that portrays this exact feeling. "The Game" is a song that gives us, as Americans, a voice. Now you are asking why would a band put in the time and effort to write and record a song about the economy? Because I have been through it all. My family's business has been going through a Chapter 11 for 3 years. Throughout I have seen the greed and the callousness of the banks and the lawyers, first hand. On top of this 3 year ordeal, my son, who is also involved with the family business, served in Iraq for 2 years of those 3 years. He and his group of guys, who are National Guard, have served in an active duty capacity for more time than many regular service people. And now he's been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This disorder is one that affects everything in a person's life. It affects how a person copes with life. And just the other day, I heard that Congress was contemplating changing military laws on what medical benefits service people receive. What is wrong with this picture? Men and women who voluntarily served our country are not worth anything now that they are back home? Sounds a little like Vietnam to me. I get just angry thinking about it! And the other day, I heard that the gov't is saying to be on the look out for terrorism coming from our own returning veterans. This is rubbish!

The Fat Cats have decided that we Americans need a voice. We need to stop being quiet and speak out against what seems to be a serious squashing of lower and middle America and American small business. If you would like to hear the new song, The Game, go to www.reverbnation.com/thefatcats , www.myspace.com/thefatcats1990. There you can listen, and if you like it, you can download it for $.99 cents. This is the first of three songs they have written and recorded that apply to how we are all feeling about the issues in our country today. The other 2 songs will be available soon, so keep checking. If you sign up as a fan of the Fat Cats, you will receive notification when the other 2 songs are ready to download.

This is the beginning of a grassroots movement and anyone who cares needs to get involved. We want to keep our country a republic, based on the human rights that our country was founded on. You can, of course, be as involved as you want, but my advice is the more involved the better. Remember the last Tea Party, Boston 1773? Remember where that went? We need to get involved because just standing by and watching it happen hasn't done us much good lately, has it?
Here are some links to sites where you can get more information and get involved:

Press Release
The Fat Cats from Detroit Lakes Minnesota were a featured band on ReverbNation. For a week. ReverbNation is one of the worlds leading Marketing and Promotion Platform and Internet Technology for Musicians, Record Labels, Managers, and Venues.
The Fat Cats are were being featured from a list of over 200,000 bands of all genres that are registered and have band profiles on ReverbNation which has also partnered with Face Book, MySpace and other Internet Social Groups to help musicians and music professionals alike promote their music and businesses to an eager market of billions of people around the world that have profiles on scores of social internet groups such as My Space and FaceBook. What makes ReverbNation unique is the tools is has to offer such as Music Players, Banners, Fan Collectors, Music and Product Stores, that can be used through out the whole internet and even on independents sites including social networks.
ReverbNation notified The Fat Cats by email before leaving for Rock Fest in Cadott Wisconsin July 16th. The guys in the band were ecstatic upon receiving the news. We've worked hard to start making waves. At the time we were notified we had already climbed to 153 in the Rock Genre Charts. That's out of 29,609 Rock Bands that have profiles on Reverb Nation. This includes 60 percent of the Artist that are currently in Bill Boards Top 100 Charts. Name like 50cents, Madonna, O.A.R., Kenny Chesney, Natasha Bedingfield, Sara Bareilles, Sean Kingston, and The Trans Siberian Orchestra just to name a few. So the competition is furious. Doug Newman commented that it was refreshing to see the other Indie Bands have been supportive in helping each other get their material out there by mutual cooperation and promoting each other by recommending each other to their fans. I haven't had as much with some of the Major Label Artist. I guess maybe some of them either
forgot where they came from or even more likely they have hired and administrator to handle their profile sites. Major Labels have huge budgets to market their Artist where most Indie Groups like us are on their own, and really have very little if at all resources to muster up a full marketing budget in comparison to the Major Artist and Labels. ReverbNation prides itself that its charts are free from manipulation. All activity is tracked and artist has the benefit of knowing whose hitting the widgets and players. This keeps the integrity of the charts free from
Automatic responders, and fake fan profiles or software that adds plays and the appearance of hits and activity on their site. This makes Companies like ReverbNation invaluable to us in marketing and managing our group to Fans and Venues. The Charts at ReverbNation are a true reflection of the relationships artists build with their fans. Now just after 14days of being a featured band we've climbed to the Top 100 at 70 of 30,274 in the Rock Category and 193 of over 200,000 Artist of all Genres. The added exposure has impacted our stats significantly. That's why getting to the Top 100 in any chart is so important. The amounts of exposure you get to the masses of music enthusiast multiply emensely and increase your chances of success in this business. It's a tuff and competitive field and just like any business it needs to be approached as so. In the mean time The Fat Cats are performing and being included in concert line ups with National acts this
summer to the likes of Matchbox 20, The Wall Flowers, Stone Temple Pilot, The Goo Goo Dolls, Live, Puddle of Mud, Boston, Poison, Everclear, Godsmack, Marshall Tucker Band, Georgia Satellites, Kentucky Head Hunters, Jackyl , Tesla, Cracker,
The Romantics, Boston, Live and many more. I'm sure it's a combination of the exposure from our live performances and the hard work we've put into promoting ourselves via My Space, Face Book, and ReverbNation that contributing to our success. We're performing in real high profile lineups this summer. Venues like Rock-Fest, Halfway Jam, and even in Central America performing Tree Shows at Lobster Fest in Sanpedro Town, Ambergris Cayes Belize
Members Include Wes Horn from Dilworth Minnesota on Bass and Vocals, Steve Ingberg from Vergas Minnesota on Drums, Kerry Boyd on Lead Guitar and Vocals and  Doug Newman lead vocals both reside in Detroit Lakes Minnesota. All the members expressed their gratitude for the support of their families and the thousands of music enthusiasts and Fat Cat Fans of which there would be no success at all. Without their support and encouragement we may not even still be in this business commented Boyd.
We owe it all to them. We're far from making it big but we're a lot closer than we were before and who knows what could happen. All I know is I love performing and playing our music exclaimed Inberg. To be able to do so has been a privilege. Wes Horn one of the original members of The Fat Cats said I've been in this band for 18 years and it never ceases to amaze me at what new adventures are around the corner. It's curious to see that after all these years of playing together we're finding this kind of success in this season of our lives but I must admit I like it and events are unfolding and doors are being opened that I never thought would be possible. I really look forward to seeing what happens next.
The Fat Cats are taking all the data they've collected and going back into the studio to record their next C.D. base on the feedback they received from their fans. They hope to have it complete before the New Year. At very least we want to have a few singles out before with some new material before the end of fall and do a college and Internet radio push. Then we'll see if any commercial radio station will pick us up and see what new doors open up. It's all so exciting, we all feel like we're almost teenagers again. Even tho
ugh our bodies don't after an intense live performance. But it's all worth it replied Ingberg. The Fat Cats seem to have a whole new fire and passion for writing and performing, and we're looking forward to seeing what's waiting around the corner for us.
We would love here from the readers and if they would like to keep track of what we're up to and what free down loads we're offering that week or even our schedule please check us out at, http://www.reverbnation.com/thefatcats or email us at thefatcats1990@yahoo.com Also check out all the great Music and Artist as well as a lot of other cool things at http://www.reverbnation.com
