A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM DAVID

Hello Everyone! I wanted to send a message to all of you to say how much I appreciate all of your feedback, messages, support and input, as much as ever.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that sometimes it is hard to stay on top of the correspondence and answer everyone individually but I am eternally grateful for all interest shown and expressed. Thank you sincerely.

I am glad you are enjoying the Facebook Fan Page and participating on the discussion boards there. If you haven't signed up over there yet, this is the link : The Official David Habbin Facebook Fan page
Regarding recordings or future CDs - in the light of the current music industry and global financial climate, this aspect is on hold for now. I am nevertheless loving the life of a performer and singer as much as ever, performing at corporate bookings, charity and private functions in the UK and all around the world, as well as a few auditions and pursuing various other projects. Wishing all of you much success in your endeavors.

Please continue to keep in touch and to leave comments and messages on all of my pages and participating on the THE OFFICIAL DAVID HABBIN FACEBOOK FAN PAGE & DISCUSSION BOARDS . I do enjoy hearing from and keeping up with all of you. My warmest best wishes and regards to all, David

Hi David's Habbin-eros

By now- most of you would have read and seen images of the appalling bushfires and the subsequent loss of life, homes, wildlife and beautifully unique landscape of my home Victoria Australia on February 7 –Black Saturday

David has posted a video clip of a hauntingly beautiful version of
Morning Song and dedicated it to those affected by
the aftermath of the terrible fires

I hope you will take the time to listen – reflect on those affected – as well as remember the brave men and women still fighting the fires
three weeks later-

and leave a thought and a star rating on David’s clip
HERE

Thanks to all who have already left a comment-
and may like to leave another one

Re- Posting David's latest Blog:

MORNING SONG - THE NEW VERSION - PIANO AND VOCAL - with a special dedication to the people of Victoria, Australia

While recently visiting Los Angeles, Robin Lerner, who wrote the lyrics to MORNING SONG, asked if I would do another video of MORNING SONG, just vocal and piano. I was truly flattered that Robin asked, and to have Ken Hirsch accompanying me on piano.

I hope you enjoy this version of
MORNING SONG as well. It is just a simple video using my SONY camera, but this was a true pleasure for me, because of the simplicity and pureness of singing it live, in this intimate setting. I am humbled by Robin not only by her talent and brilliant lyrics, but for her hospitality . . .and to Ken for his beautiful arrangement of the song, for piano.

Many thanks to the over 25,000 plays on MySpace and the 22,000 + views on YouTube of the original photo slideshow version of
MORNING SONG and to all of you, not only for your wonderful support of my music, but truly, for the heartfelt comments, responses and personal stories that you have all been sharing with us on what MORNING SONG has meant to you, we want you to know that you have touched and honoured us all.

A DEDICATION

Bev, who runs my fan pages for me, lives in Victoria, Australia. Because of the following note that Bev wrote to me:

David- this version is so bittersweet. An exquisite arrangement of a poignant song. To be hearing this - when my state of Victoria - and all of Australia is in mourning for the loss of the 188 people who perished and the 2000 + who are homeless from our terrible fires is both comforting and fills me with sorrow- if that's possible. Again- I am moved to tears with your heartfelt gift of song. Love, Bev x

With much gratitude, I want to honour and dedicate this to all of those who live in that area and have suffered in the recent tragic bushfires in Victoria, Australia. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families with hope for strength in this time of healing and recovery.

THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC of MORNING SONG

click on the image or the link David Habbin 'MORNING SONG to view the video:
MORNING SONG piano and vocal

When we began the search for new music for this project, I was honoured when Robin presented me with songs for consideration. The song was written by Robin Lerner & Tommy Lee James, critically acclaimed songwriting team from America (SHE'S MY KIND OF RAIN performed by Tim McGraw)

My other versions of MORNING SONG can be heard on my
MYSPACE page in the music player . In August 2007 we did a video slideshow of my photographs, on YOUTUBE MORNING SONG photo slideshow to that vocal. Many thanks to the over 25,000 plays on MySpace and the 22,000 + views on Youtube and for all of the comments you have left.

From the first time I heard MORNING SONG, there was something about it that got to me right away.

I wanted to know if there was a story behind the writing of the lyrics, so we asked Robin.

Robin told us that when Tommy gave her the music to write the lyrics to, it was around the time that the American girl Natalee Holloway had disappeared in May of 2005 on a graduation trip to Aruba. She said, "It was all over the news. As a mother of a daughter, the words just came from my heart, one mother relating to another mother on the most unconscionable, most horrible of loss, losing your child. A loss that is never meant to happen. The unimaginable emptiness of a parent losing a child, and how do you go on."

Even though the haunting and beautiful tune and lyrics of MORNING SONG affected me on an emotional level, when I learned that the inspiration behind the lyric had been the missing girl in Aruba and particularly Robin writing the lyrics from the mother's perspective, I related to the situation on a different personal level.

Having myself lost a sister to a rare illness, all be it when I was still an infant, I have been acutely aware of the life changing effect this kind of loss has on a family and that the law of nature perhaps dictates that the loss is most profound for the mother.

There is also here, a very raw reminder of the story behind MORNING SONG with the ordeal being experienced by the parents of Madeleine McCann, a three year old British girl that went missing in May of 2007, while on vacation with her parents in Portugal.

Sadly, too many parents and family members have to face this kind of loss with children that go missing and are never found, and so many children lost to illness, every year.

Thanks to all of you not only for your wonderful support of my music, but truly, for the heartfelt comments and responses and personal stories that you have all been sharing with us on what MORNING SONG has meant to you. We want you to know that you have touched and honoured us all.

peace and love to all of you . . .
David

NEW DAVID HABBIN video on YouTube - ORDINARY WORLD. And . . . enter comments to win a personally dedicated and signed photo of David!

This rehearsal video, is a cover of a Duran Duran song called Ordinary World.

I had always been fond of the Duran Duran original and on hearing an alternative version I was inspired to experiment with this and collaborate with Dimitri Scarlato to come up with a way of bringing something of myself to this haunting song. It was shot in a rehearsal room at a music college with Dimitri on piano. At this time, it is exclusively up on YouTube

We were experimenting during this rehearsal, as you will see by the visual part of the video, so that is why this is a departure from what we normally have up for a rehearsal video, but this is a rehearsal video nonetheless.

Dimitri Scarlato is an Italian composer/arranger that I have been working with. You can find out more info about Dimitri on his MySpace page and at the BDI music website

May 29, 2008 - Thursday

A heartfelt blog has been written by one of David's friends- aj-  someone I am also proud to call a friend.

aj has a family member, her brother, who is bravely fighting for his life while enduring a radical medical treatment for cancer.

This entails the selfless gesture of a  stranger who has donated stem cells to enable aj's brother to continue his brave battle against this heinous disease.

In the midst of this- aj is appealing to people to help another of her friends who is preparing for a fundraising marathon to help cancer research.

So please-  I'm hoping you  can spend some time reading   aj's blog -

And follow the links to Mandi's Blog and the Donations Page

It's possible your kind donation will help research to develop a treatment  that may someday save the life of someone you know and love–

because every day we must remember-

'There but for the grace of God go I….. '

and think how much it would mean for us to have people help in our time of need.

Thanks

Just buy an extra one and give it to someone you don't even know. A random act of kindness. Love Bev x

THE LIAR'S DIARY Blog Day

Today, over 300 bloggers, including bestsellers, Emmy winners, movie makers, and publishing houses have come together to talk about THE LIAR'S DIARY by Patry Francis. Why? To give the book the attention it deserves on its release day while Patry takes the time she needs to heal from cancer.

Before I talk about this book, I'd like to tell you a story about how this extraordinary day happened.

Patry Francis Blog Day on LitPark

First, you need to know something about Patry Francis.

What if you worked for years as a waitress and then went home at the end of the day to your husband and four kids, and in those rare minutes of free time, you dared to dream that one day you might write a book? This is the story of my friend, Patry - a story that leaves out years of false starts, revisions, and rejection slips. It's a story that writers know intimately, though the details are different. Every one of us is well acquainted with the struggle of getting a story on paper, of honing it and believing in it enough to send it out, only to receive rejection, or worse, silence for our efforts.

Imagine, after many years, you beat the odds. You finish that book. You find that agent who sells your manuscript. Your dream is about to become a reality. But just as your book is due to be released, you discover you have an aggressive form of cancer.

Patry's story struck such a deep chord with many of us, not just because she is our friend, but because those of us who know her or read her blog have relied on her company through the ups and mostly downs of trying to write and sell a book. She is our buoy. She has shown us time and again her great gift for shedding light in the dark. Even her blog post about her cancer showed this - in her greatest time of need, she was still somehow comforting all of us and showing us glimpses of joy.

Patry is part one of this amazing story.

Patry Francis Blog Day on LitPark THE LIAR'S DIARY in paperback.

Now you need to know something about Laura Benedict:

On New Year's Day, or thereabouts, Laura wrote to me, calling my attention to Patry's publication date. "Perhaps we could do a 'Patry Francis/Liar's Diary' blog-o-rama or carnival or something to promote the book?" she wrote. "I'm such an amateur at this stuff that I don't know what's possible."

I didn't give a moment's thought to what we might try to pull off, or how; I simply said, "Yes! Let's do it!"

It's very important to me that Laura is recognized for her initial gesture - not just because she's a great and generous woman, but because it says something about the strength of the heart over the kinds of power most of us are without. When you see the amazing outpouring of support and the high-profile people who joined this effort, remember it started with one small voice.

Laura is part 2 of this amazing story.

Patry Francis Blog Day on LitPark THE LIAR'S DIARY in hardcover.

Now let's talk about you:

In less than one month, over 300 bloggers, writers, readers, and just big-hearted people signed on to take part in this day. I am overwhelmed and grateful for every single person who said yes or helped spread the word, but let me reserve some enormous thanks for the people who traded hundreds of emails with me to put this together: Karen Dionne of Backspace, Jessica Keener of Agni and The Boston Globe, Dan Conaway of Writers House, and Alice Tasman of the Jean Naggar Literary Agency.

What began as a personal gesture of caring for a friend became an astonishing show of community - writers helping writers; strangers helping strangers; and most surprising of all, editors, agents and publishers, who have no stake in this book, crossing "party lines" to blog, to make phone calls, and to send out press releases.

This effort has made visible a community that is, and has been, alive and kicking - a community that understands the struggle artists go through and rejoices in each other's successes. It's a community made up of many small voices, but - guess what? - those many small voices can create some noise. So while today is for Patry, it's also a symbolic gesture for all of you who work so very hard for little or no recognition, for all of you who keep going despite the rejections, and for all of you who have had illness or other outside factors force your art or your dreams aside. We are in this together.

Time to talk about THE LIAR'S DIARY.

Whether you like text, audio, or video, I have a taste of the book for you. Let's start with an audio clip of THE LIAR'S DIARY. This audio clip comes courtesy of Eileen Hutton at Brilliance Audio.

This video for THE LIAR'S DIARY was created by Sheila Clover English, C.E.O. of Circle of Seven Productions, who was moved by Patry's story and volunteered her lightning-speed creativity!

Here are the publisher's words:

Answering the question of what is more powerful—family or friendship? this debut novel unforgettably shows how far one woman would go to protect either.

They couldn't be more different, but they form a friendship that will alter both their fates. When Ali Mather blows into town, breaking all the rules and breaking hearts (despite the fact that she is pushing forty), she also makes a mark on an unlikely family. Almost against her will, Jeanne Cross feels drawn to this strangely vibrant woman, a fascination that begins to infect Jeanne's "perfect" husband as well as their teenaged son.

At the heart of the friendship between Ali and Jeanne are deep-seated emotional needs, vulnerabilities they have each been recording in their diaries. Ali also senses another kind of vulnerability; she believes someone has been entering her house when she is not at home—and not with the usual intentions. What this burglar wants is nothing less than a piece of Ali's soul.

When a murderer strikes and Jeanne's son is arrested, we learn that the key to the crime lies in the diaries of two very different women . . . but only one of them is telling the truth. A chilling tour of troubled minds, The Liar's Diary signals the launch of an immensely talented new novelist who knows just how to keep her readers guessing.

And now, here are Patry's words, which I lifted off her blog: "Though my novel deals with murder, betrayal, and the even more lethal crimes of the heart, the real subjects of THE LIAR'S DIARY are music, love, friendship, self-sacrifice and courage. The darkness is only there for contrast; it's only there to make us realize how bright the light can be. I'm sure that most writers whose work does not flinch from the exploration of evil feel the same."

Ready to buy the book? Why not buy one for yourself and one for a friend? And if you like it, tell people!

Here are links to THE LIAR'S DIARY at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Powell's. You can also buy directly from Penguin to save 15% (after you add the book to your cart, just enter the word PATRY in the coupon code field and click 'update cart' to activate the discount).

A long list of thank yous.

You're about to see a very long list of those who are taking part in THE LIAR'S DIARY Blog Day. I hope you'll check out the links because some of these folks got very creative. For example, my friend, Aurelio O'Brien, made up these buttons and stickers:

January 19, 2008 - Saturday

I'm re-posting this blog that I received from one of my friends.

I think it demonstrates how we can help others without thinking- "I would if I had the time"-

This takes no time.  Just forwarding a simple message to all your friends in the hope they will be kind enough to do the same.

Doesn't raise a sweat- doesn't cost a dime- but you know you've made a difference in the world for someone.

How one person reaching out to another person and passing on kindness makes the world go 'round

How one person reaching out to another person and passing on kindness makes a difference in our hearts and in our world . . .

I hope all of you read the wonderful interview that Susan Henderson just did on her LitPark website about David and Robin and Charlie and the Morning Song writing contest. If you didn't, make sure you check it out HERE LitPark interview with David Habbin and Robin Lerner and while you are there, leave a comment for Sue.

I learned through reading the blog on Susan's website, Making a Difference in 2008 (as you are reading the blog, you will come to the part that says One last thing. Speaking of heart) that there is a global and group effort to help out a fellow writer who is healing from Cancer and unable to promote her book "The Liar's Diary" that is coming out in paperback on 29 January.

Sue has written "If you already know Patry Francis, I don't need to tell you what a wise and generous writer she is. If you don't know her yet, take a trip over to her blog, Simply Wait, where she writes about her life with inspiring, unsentimental candor.

Patry is one of the pillars in the writers community, who knows the long haul of writing a book and taking those rejections and reworking the book and knocking on doors - and somehow, even experiencing these blows, she manages to show grace and compassion and joy. One of the best thrills I know is to see folks who are both great writers and great souls get their breaks in the business. So when it happens to someone you love, someone you've been rooting for, and during the time of celebration, you find out they got diagnosed with cancer, what do you do?

If we could cure her, we would. We have to leave that to the doctors. But can we take up the job of promoting her book so she can focus on getting better? Yes, we can!

This is where you come in!

On January 29th, THE LIAR'S DIARY will be released in paperback. And we're holding a huge, joint-effort blogging day for all those who want to show support for Patry, for cancer survivors, for writers helping writers, and for the strength and spirit of the blogging community.

I'll tell you how. On January 29th, use your blog, your MySpace page, your Publishers Marketplace page, whatever you've got, big or small, and point people in the direction of Patry's book. You can even come to LitPark on the 29th and copy whatever I've posted and use it verbatim on your own blog. There will be photos, promotional videos, free books for folks who'd like to write reviews."

For those of you that want to participate, Susan Henderson is keeping the list on her website, LitPark.

Life is always throwing change and challenge at us. It only takes an instant for our lives to change but we muster up the courage and the grace to accept them and change with the circumstances.

So, what can you do? You can blog and bulletin about it on your MySpace pages on the 29th of January and help to spread the word. I'm pretty sure that everything you will need to do that will be provided for you on Sue's website . . .and while you are at it, hold a good and healing thought for Patry and most especially, buy a copy of the book :-)

I don't know any of these people, but I so admire what they are doing. I hope you will also want to blog about this on your MySpace pages, so sign up on Susan's LitPark page and tell all your friends to tell all their friends . . . . I bet you'll be glad you did

If you want to repost MY blog on your pages, in the meantime, send me an email at the website and I will send you the code to copy and paste.

© every moment whether borne of joy or pain, has the potential for grace realized . . .

peace, grace and love,

Current mood:  excited

Hello there - David Habbin Fanners ( this may be the last time I use that title---)

There's been a bit of discussion and suggestions about a  collective name for David's fans - on his Christmas/Holiday Youtube video.

The one that seems to have a received a good reaction is -

Habbin-eros

It has a dual meaning-

The First:

a habaneros is described as a little hot wicked pepper-

Those of you who've seen David in concert KNOW he is hot and wicked!

And  makes the females feel a little hot - and definitely  wicked-

( can't speak for some of the male enthusiasts-they probably want to go to the footy with him!)

The Second:

Habbin- eros  =  Habbin love  (Eros being the Greek god of love)

How better to describe the feeling his beautiful and soul inspiring singing brings to us all every time we hear it?

So that's the rationale behind the name-

plus you can walk around saying it out loud and adding an ole flourish at the end... doesn't get much better than that- try it!

AND we can sit at the concerts with a rose between our teeth! ( just joking....

or am I?)

So -   peoples-   please leave comments and thoughts about this proposal.
