" Fun House " Words and Music by Mark Cote
We all know how much we love our little secrets Just as much as we all love a good surprise You'll get your dollar's worth in here Of all those things you love to fear But don't even think of trying to shut your eyes...
Step right up and take your hands out of your pockets Grab your ticket, spin the wheel and get in line It's always raining laughs in here Cause nothing is what it appears A better time I swear you'll never find Than here inside the fun house of your mind...
May I suggest the Topsy-Turvy Room for starters Climb inside your hat and fall right up the stairs You'll never find your way back out of your confusion and your doubt You'll be chatting with yourself for hours in there...
Try your luck inside the room that's always spinning Well that always was a favorite of mine It has that floor that drops away What more can I say ?It gets a scream every single time Here inside the fun house of your mind
So who's afraid of Love ? Or Denial and Regret ? We got all your favorite spooks to name a few ;You can holler for your life in here Just as loudly as you want 'Cause no one will ever hear a thing but you...
( Instrumental )
Come lose yourself inside the Maze Of Mirrors Guaranteed to keep your guessing every time The question of which one is you Depends upon your point of view As your crisis of identity unwinds Here inside the fun house of your mind Here inside the fun house of your mind...

Wind me up !!!

"Love Is Everything"  Words and Music by Mark Cote
"Life is but a dream" they say So where's your sky of blue Seems gravity is all that keeps you here
You want to fly above the cry And the chaos of the world You're young but oh so wise beyond your years
Nobody told you there'd be rain Who'd guess a heart could feel such pain...
Well some may tell you life is bitter But spring will always follow winter Love is everything you ever need Only love can take you higher Light your way with life's desire Love is everything you ever need
Every road always takes you back To the same place as before Where each parade just seems to pass you by
But the tears you cry today will dry On the breeze the new day brings And love will teach your broken dreams to fly
Don't leave your heart upon the shelf The gift of life is life itself
Well some may tell you life is bitter But spring will always follow winter Love is everything you ever need Ring them bells and hush the cynics What is life without love in i tLove is everything you ever need
Life goes by much faster child Than what you might believe So don't waste time Don't waste another day Love and love alone is still the hand That turns the world So trust your heart to always lead the way...
( Repeat Chorus )

"Everywhere But Here" Words and Music by Mark Cote
Still awake at four a.m. Holed up here inside our room I sing like a canary on fire No one else could sing these blues As sweetly as I do for you Blue as my despair and my desire
Well it doesn't really matter How our love got lost Cause you've left for the very last time But I admit that there's a certain comfort to be had In all these odds n' ends you've left behind...
Now I'm never lost for company Not with all these souvenirs Everywhere I look I see you my love Yeah you're everywhere but here Everywhere but here...
Here's your book of Tolstoy That you left abandoned Page two-fifty three still folded back And that missing sock of yours That I discovered like Columbus Underneath our bed, the week after you left
Those azaleas in the window That I gave you last September Well they're past their blooms and terminally brown But in the absence of your presence My heart just grows fonder And I only see love looking at them now...
Now I'm never lost for company Not with all these souvenirs Everywhere I look I see you my love Yeah you're everywhere but here Everywhere but here...
Now you've never seemed more lovely Or desirable or perfect As I face your accusing chair No there's not enough aspirin Not enough band-aids For this heart beyond repair...
I can almost trace the sleepy curve of your shoulder As I move my finger through the air Roll my face into your pillow Once heavy with your perfume Was " Evening In Paris " what you used to wear ?
Here's your little earring forgotten in the soap dish Only one where once there was a two Sentenced to a lifetime of eternal loneliness But always with me - this nearness of you...
Now I'm never lost for company Not with all these souvenirs Everywhere I look I see you my love Yeah you're everywhere but here Everywhere but here...
I should be laughing at the irony Laughing through my very tears It's a funny kind of tragedy How the heart refuses to go clear...

Hello Friends...

Monday, August 5th of 2008 and the new MySpace site is up and running without benefit of wheels, horsepower or engine. The two new featured songs " Fun House " and " Everywhere But Here " are a taste of what's to come from the forthcoming CD. In the meantime, the pot's on the stove at full boil. I'm back in the studio next week tracking more songs for the CD which should finished later this fall.

For those who are wondering what artistic statement I'm trying to make with the painting I made ( a portion of which is featured at www.markcote.com  and the entirety of which is featured here on the MySpace page )...I suppose it is my attempt to illustrate the themes that fascinate me as a songwriter and to which I am drawn to write about - those themes being the complexities of the human mind as we all know it. In this particular case, the fun house that exists in each of our heads. For those who are fortunate ( or unfortunate ) to see the whole image ( depending on your computer's resolution ), the Victorian Medical art of the human brain at the bottom of the painting is the " Fun House ". The machinery gears that I built into the collage represent the gears of our thought processes ; forever turning in restless motion. The characters and images trapped inside the gears are my way of depicting those thoughts of desire, hope and chance that are rattling around in there, along with some of the spooks we all know too well...or as the lyric in " Fun House " goes  - " So who's afraid of love ? Or denial and regret ? We got all your favorite spooks to name a few "...
