It's been a crazy-cool past few months! We just got back into town from LA, after working with engineer/producer Jay Ruston on a new single. What a super-cool guy to work with and he made the new song sound so great! Can't wait for ya all to hear it! Soon soon soon, my pretties ;)

In the meantime we played a handful of really kick-ass shows including Martini Ranch, Rialto Theatre, 103.9's Third Thursday, the Orpheum Theatre, Marquee Theatre, Habitat for Humanity benefit, and the Viper Room, Knitting Factory and Key Club in LA! Damn, I just realized how cool it sounds when you list em' all out like that!

We've also been blessed enough to get added into rotation on 103.9 The Edge, in Phoenix and 103.7 The Eagle in Flagstaff is still giving us plenty of love and spins in Flagstaff! Don't worry Sam, the new stuff is comin!

To top it all off, the labels have still been checking us out and some new ones have even been coming around a little bit! Our camp keeps growing, as well as interest and with their help and all of you to support us and keep sending us the love, it won't be long till we're playing our music the whole world around!

Much Love,

So... Here we are. November already and I can't believe it! If you have been checking out shows coming up, there is but one my friends. No joke! You may be wondering why and what's going on in the ever changing world that is Telescope? Yeah??? Yeah??????

As it stands, we have become writing machines these days, so the lack of shows is for a VERY good reason and you will undoubtedly see in the next few months ahead, just exactly what we've been up to. A new album is on the horizon ladies and gents and if I can speak for the rest of us, it's gonna knock all your socks off and hopefully the rest of your clothes as well :)

Label interest has been gracing us with its presence for a bit now and the time is right to show the world what we are capable of! New songs. A new Telescope. A new fire in our bellies that will take you up and make you want us so much freakin more!

It's coming.

Get ready.

As you may have heard, Telescope was added to the playlist and rotation at the Edge 103.9 FM. This led to an amazing show on Thursday night at the Third Thursday Block Party in Scottsdale. (If anyone has pix from that night please post them here or on Facebook, we'd love to see them.)

So then, to top off an incredible couple of weeks: We found out on Friday that the industry leading A&R site, Crazed Hits, featured Telescope this week as its, A&R pick. Dig deeper on the link below and you'll see why we're so excited!

Check this out!:

Telescope on Crazed Hits

We'll keep you up-to-date on everything as it happens. Please keep requesting us at radio and continue to spread the word.

Well, I really wish I had something deep and meaningful to say right now, but to be perfectly honest, I just don't. To that end, maybe we don't always need to say something deep and meaningful. Perhaps it's actually alright to just talk about whatever. The weather, a walk you took on a Sunday afternoon, etc... Now that I think about it, we as musicians/writers so easily get locked into this whole thing of feeling it necessary to always put a song out there that really connects with almost everyone on a profound level. While I love those kind of songs, I like the ones that say nothing too, or even leave it up to the listener to take whatever meaning they get from it. Okay, bye bye :)

Just in case you we're wondering why we have no shows coming up at all, it's because we are in full-on writing mode and getting ready to record very soon. The new songs are sounding so killer, by the way! We all sincerely hope that you don't suddenly lose interest in us and move on to some other band who has more shows, or more tattoos, or chats you up more than we do! They'll never make you as happy we do.

Love,

Telescope

Current mood:  curious
As an artist, I personally believe it is our duty to express every emotion of humanity, from absolute wretched, dark evil, because we all feel it, to bright, fluffy elated sun-..shiny-ness, cause we all feel that too and of course, everything in between! If you don't think so, you're probably either lying to yourself, or you're a robot on some kind of controlling meds and you need to get off of them so you can feel the full range and not supress any of it. Agree??? That's question one.

Secondly, while there are many kinds of artists, two kinds fall into the recording artist style of operation in my mind. The first type may spend years writing an album. Tweaking, over the course of this time and perfecting songs, to produce an album which may have a half an album of hits. The second type will record and put out three albums worth of material in the same amount of time and maybe a couple of songs per album will be hits. What is better in your mind? Do you as a listener value the artist and what they create, period, or an artist who gives you the radio hits time and time again? I'm very curious to hear thoughts on this, so don't be shy!

Love,

This time, I'm just gonna throw it down real simple and to the point. Telescope now has a manager, by the name of Glen Parrish, who we are so stoked to be working with! Super cool cat! We are going into the studio in LA either at the end of this month or the beginning of next month to record a couple of our new songs. Those new songs will be making their way into the hands of the major labels along with our previously recorded material. In the meantime we are trying to start our own label, right here in AZ and we have been asked to be on a reality TV show! Chances are, we won't do the show, but we'll see what the offer is in detail, then decide. In short, the Telescope jet is taking off and we're about to break the sound barrier baby!!! Glad to have you on board!!!!!

Current mood:  awake
Yesterday I was trying to think of what to write about for a blog when I came across a piece of art that had been posted online. Below this painting were all kinds of comments. Most of them basically rippin' on the guys work for being too derivative of another artist, or being too much this and not enough that, etc... Almost no one just looked at his work for what it is and said yeah, I dig it, or nah, it's just really not my thing. Naturally, this made me think of how much it's the same with music. Before I go any further, let me just say that I agree that posting your work on the net is asking for criticism and I also will agree that criticism can be a great thing. It can absolutely, without a doubt help you stretch your limits and hit new levels of creativity and skill. For real.

Now that we've addressed the upside to having your work picked apart, I did find it mildly irritating. The way I see it, everyone has been influenced by someone else's work. Unless you were raised in a cave, never having heard other music, or seen a painting and suddenly were given an instrument, or brush and paints, what you do is not 100% original. As a musician, I know that simply because I listen to music, what I've heard is gonna come through in my playing at least on a sub-conscious plane. Nothing wrong with that, because we all do it. Since most people I know comprehend this about themselves, do you really need to tell them??? I've seen plenty of artists over the years begin their journey emulating other artists because it's just a good place to start. Inevitably, time goes on and they move away toward their own ideas, while still maintaining a piece of that influence. Most art evolves, even if only in small ways and if you're going to criticize in a positive way in order to help, great! If you just want to be a pompous bastard and tell someone they suck because you recognize where their influences come from, you're an idiot in my book. Same goes for telling someone they suck because what they do is not in your personal realm of taste.

It's been my job for a little while now, to take care of the myspace page, check the inbox and respond to messages that are actually legit. With that, I've certainly dealt with critics. For the most part, it's honestly been a good experience and just positive in general. Nine times out of ten people really do have some thing to say that can help in one way or another. Thankfully, it's really easy to see when someone is just ignorant altogether and can't see art purely for what it is and respect it whether they care for it or not.

Current mood:  chill
I had a conversation the other night with a friend about something that has been on my mind for a little while now. It's incredibly obvious, if you pay attention to the music industry at all, that everything has changed in a huge way. It's not new news, but I felt the need to say some thing about it. In a lot of ways, I think it's been for the better, but in others, I'm not so sure.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               The standard operating procedures of the industry are pretty much dead and gone. With the boom of the internet and sites like myspace, bands everywhere became able to promote themselves independently on a much larger scale than before. Now your music could actually spread nationally and even internationally without having to play a grassroots type tour costing you tons of money. This is one of the good points for sure! Don't get me wrong, I still believe there's great value in that kind of touring, just to set the record straight. The more you play live and spend time together, the better and tighter of a unit you'll become. People see and respond to that whether they realize why that is, or not. Having said that, this new way has definately afforded many amazing bands the opportunity to finally get thier art "out there". Bands who may have previously been shunned by an industry who had only wanted music that was a carbon copy of a carbon copy.

A down side to these new changes that I can think of immediately is that everyone has become so easily accessible. Keep in mind this is just my personal opinion. There was some thing very cool back in the day about the mystery surrounding a band and the brief time you had, seeing them larger than life on stage, or on the cover of a magazine and maybe, if you were lucky catching them for a second after the show to snap a photo or tell them you love what they do. Nowadays, you might be able to chat with your favorite band member or give em' a call. Just seems strange and not quite as cool somehow.

Overall, I guess I'd have to say that this new world of music been a good thing, because it has brought bands to the table who need and deserve to be heard. The status quo has been challenged and lets face it, competition is good. Without it, the bar for creativity would never be raised. People want variety and now they are getting it and though I miss the mystery of the old ways, one thing is certain to me. Things did need to change.

Current mood:  artistic
Seems like when things finally start to take off, they catch like a gasoline drenched brush fire. Till now, we've had a limited amount of success while learning to navigate this music business. CD's have been sent to various management companies, labels, booking agents, etc... Press kits, bio's and press releases have been put together and certainly tons of phone calls have been made to those who just might be able to help us out in some way. Crazy that all these things really just scratch the surface of the work that goes into being in a band.

That having been said, things are really moving now and they are moving fast my friends! My head's kind of spinning thinking about what will come of all the new developments actually! All I can say right now is stay tuned, because you're gonna see us take off. May be a year from now, may be two or three, but just watch...
