Hola folks! There's a new blog you check out: LA EASTSIDEFrom the about page: Los Angeles is more than the usual media conception, the one that usually draws the shades when the darker figures begin to emerge from the shadows. The Eastside is accustomed to being ignored, but no matter how hard you try, you cannot shut us out entirely. This here blog space is for those willing to endure the glare of indifference, and cast a presence despite our relegation to nothingness. Caught you looking, don't act like I ain't here. Ojo, cabron! ------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any events, concerts, art openings or any other Eastside, Northeast LA or other local events you'd like to promote, please send them my way and I will try and list them. I do my best to keep up with bulletins but it's hard. Thanks! chimatli

I'm looking for examples, photos, documentation of the old style chola bracelets. The black, rubbery ones that were fashioned into intricate designs around the wrist and sometimes the fingers. Anyone interested in helping? Thanks! Read more here on my "real" blog: www.chimatli.org/blog

I've driven down Cesar Chavez/Brooklyn Ave in East LA hundreds of times and always pause to take a look at this old bar. Something about the place intrigues me. Every year another letter falls.

A heads up for all the homies out there: Chief Bratton is now trying to shift blame from his department to a group of what he claims are "50-100 outside agitators." According to Bratton, these "highly organized" agitators show up to marches in order to confront police. He claims they always have a woman in front, a line of agitators behind them and a line of cameras behind the agitators. What a load of crap! Channel 7 has begun to refer to this "highly organized group of trouble makers" as "Anarchists" claiming "this is the same group of people in Seattle and at the DNC. " It doesn't help that the organizers of the marches including CARACEN and CHIRLA are also fingering "Anarchists." For now, Bratton has seemed to find a group he can lay the blame on. Expect this story to grow more fantastic and outrageous everyday as the LAPD tries to shift the blame.
