I’m joined today by Colt Cabana. Hey Colt, thanks for taking the time out of your schedule to do this interview with me on behalf of MYWEBSITESUCKSBALLS.com (I changed it, hehe). How’s it going?
It's going the greatest it can ever go. I just ate entire Watermellon in under 5 minutes on a dare. That's right....I WON...I WON...WHo's the big winner???? THIS GUY! Under 5 folks. King Kong ain't got shit on me!
You made your return to Ring of Honor at their 7th Anniversary show in New York City as the mystery partner of Bryan Danielson. Can you describe what it was like "returning to your roots" so to speak?
If I returned to roots...I'd like to be the drummer with the crazy afro. I think his name is Quest Love. Although, now he's doing the Jimmy Fallon show and that show SUUUUUUCKS. I thought Fallon would be a lot better, but he's just weak beats man. As far as my return to ROH. It was awesome. The people in ROH welcomed me with open arms. I felt like I was coming home. I guess it was kind of a homecoming. I remember I went to homecoming with this one chick and she only welcomed me with a kiss on the cheek and a "thanks for being so sweet". Not sweet as in awesome, but like, lame. So I'd say this Homecoming was much better.
What is the biggest difference between working for a promotion such as Ring of Honor compared to WWE?
There's different fans, different catering company, different camera men, different wrestling talent, different announcers, different agents, different bell ringers, different rats, different sound people and different ring size, but I'd say the biggest difference is the lack of the McMahon family in ROH.
A lot has changed in Ring of Honor from the time you last worked for them. They have grown tremendously, landed a national television deal and are now under a new creative direction. What is your view on the changes?
I like change. There's nothing wrong with change. In-fact, I picked up a quarter on the ground the other day. Next thing you know, there's this little dispenser with Reece's in it. Now, two minute before that I wouldn't of been able to enjoy such Reece's....BUT...Because of CHANGE!!!! I rocked those Reece's ET style. In conclusion, change is good!
Speaking of the new creative direction, what is the biggest difference between Gabe Sapolsky’s booking and Adam Pearce’s booking?
They've both got their pros. They've both got their joes too. It's like an ROH version of Pros vs. Joes. Except we don't have Dave Winfield sucking it up in ROH.
I just got my advance screener of ROH Take No Prisoners in the mail and plan on watching it over the weekend. You face Ace Steel on the pay-per-view which premieres on June 12, 2009. What can your fans expect to see in the match?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say people can expect some pro wrestling. I know I know. Pretty crazy and maybe even a little controversial, but I'm gonna say it anyways.
Switching gears, you recently finished a two year span under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. What was your experience like as Scotty Goldman?
I wasn't being Scotty Goldman. I AM SCOTTY GOLDMAN. What you don't know, is that I've been Scotty Goldman this whole time just "being" Colt Cabana. It's some pretty trippy stuff man. Think about it. What if Jimmy Yang wasn't playing AKIO, but AKIO is now playing Jimmy Yang. Mind blowing if you think about it.
After spending a significant amount of time in WWE's developmental system you finally received the call up to the main WWE roster in August 2008 to SmackDown. What was it like finally getting that call?
It was awesome. It was pretty cool when I wrestled the main even that night against HHH. I can't believe I lost, but I'd like to think I held my own. Then they did that whole angle with me where me and Michelle McCool and Victoria all got an apartment together and had wacky zanny adventures. It was like a modern day Three's Company. I loved it!
All of us here at ShittyStupidnosenseofhumorwebsite.com feel WWE completely miss-handled you in the company, only giving you a role as an enhancement worker. How frustrating is it to go out and job, knowing what you are capable of doing in the ring?
So you're trying to say that that stuff didn't really happen and I was only an enhancement worker?!?!? Do enhancement workers get to eat paper bag puppets and be in battleroyals!!! NOOOOOO! I was a star damn you. A big fat (husky) shining STARRRRRR!
WWE gave you your own show on their official website, which seemed to be pretty over. Who came up with the concept for the show and did you think it would lead to a sturdy role on WWE television?
The show was my idea. I had pitched WWE-Talk Soup (for reals). Hindsight being 20/20, I wish I would have turned it into WWE-Ricky Lake. That chicks show used to rule. Everyone watched that back in the day. So if everyone watched actual Ricky Lake, everyone would watch WWE-Ricky Lake and then I wouldn't of been fired. You can't live in regret though, ya know!
After making your debut as an in-ring worker in WWE, they brought you back to Florida Championship Wrestling as a color commentator. If my memory serves me correctly, you even commentated the night before you were released, can you tell us why you were moved to color commentary?
I actually commentated on FCW TV WHILE I WAS FIRED! That's the magic of TV. Copperfield style! I wanted to commentate. I thought it would be fun and it turned out I was actually good at it. I grew up watching American Gladiators and wanted to be a modern-day Larry Czonka! It turns out I was more like Todd Christensen.
What was the reason you were given for your release?
The official reason WWE gave me for being released is that i was TOO awesome. Yea man...happens to the best of us.
After working up through the ranks, making it to television, only to get cut was the WWE experience worth it?
As worth it as a whistle!
Would you ever return if they wanted you back?
I'd return like a whistle.
At one time you were roommates with Evan Bourne and Roderick Strong. Do you all still live together in Tampa?
I moved back to Chicago. I'm now roomates with One Man Gang, William Perry and Rob Blavagoavich.
Besides Evan Bourne, I know you are close friends with CM Punk. Who were your closest friends while working in WWE?
HHH, Shane McMahon, and Kung Fu Naki. All four of us were unseperable. They used to call us the Fearsome Foursome. It was like a "cliq" name for us. It used to drive FU FU crazy (that's what i'd call Funaki on the road, like a nickname), but I thought it was all in good fun.
Who did you travel with while on the road with WWE?
Fearsome Foursome man! 4 LIFE!
Any fun road stories you can tell us that would be appropriate for a PG rated website?
Sure. I once wrestled Umaga and then got fired. It was hilarious... maybe you had to of been there.
A lot is made about the Internet and professional wrestling. What is your opinion of websites such as LAMESITE.com? Do they help or hurt the business?
I'd say they help. They help me. Where else would I be able to answer questions like a total moron. I mean. I used to do it back in Highschool, but then I'd have to get a tutor. Usually I'd pray the tutor was some hot Cheerleading chick, but it would always turn out to be some 45 year old child molester-looking dude with a mustache and a Geo-Metro. As a wise man once said, "these are the breaks". That wise men was Kurtis Blow obviously and not the DX theme song.
Thanks so much for speaking with me today. I’d ask you if there was anything you’d like to plug but I asked Nigel McGuinness this and he said one of the Divas. So is there anything you would like to promote or tell the fans of Colt Cabana?
