2009 Galaxy of Stars recipient and 2010 Male Artist Of the Year finalist James Blundell will be joined by good friends Kirsty Lee Akers and Mick Thomas at The Capitol Theatre on Friday 22^nd January during the 2010 Tamworth Country Music Festival. This will be James and Kirsty’s only full shows of the 2010 Festival. 

James Blundell, a regular at the Festival since the late 1980s, will be performing numerous hits and much loved songs from a successful 20+ year career which he describes as “chequered and colourful”.  His latest album ‘Portrait of a Man’, released in January 2009, features contributions from Lee Kernaghan, Felicity Urquhart and Mick Thomas. The album was critically acclaimed from all parts of the music industry with statements such as "If there's a contemporary singer/songwriter in this country today writing about and commenting on the nature of being an Australian with a quiet honesty, real integrity - and a cheeky humour when things get a bit too serious - it's James Blundell” (Drum Media) and “Portrait Of A Man is without doubt one of the best albums that James Blundell has recorded and it consolidates his place as one of Australia’s finest songwriters” (Capital News) regularly attached to reviews.

Kirsty Lee Akers is one of Australia’s most successful young solo country performer. The winner of the Best New Talent Award and a finalist in Female Artist Of The Year at the 2008 Country Music Awards of Australia Kirsty also won the prestigious Toyota Star Maker Contest in 2007 and Telstra Road To Tamworth’s Songwriter’s Award in 2006.  Kirsty launched her ‘Better Days’ CD to a sold out crowd at last year’s festival and will be playing all the favourites from this album and 2007’s ‘Little Things’ along with some new material.

Opening the show will be Mick Thomas of Weddings Parties Anything fame whose new album (with his band The Sure Thing) ‘Spin! Spin! Spin!’ includes names such as Felicity Urquhart, Paul Kelly and Tim Rogers. A brilliant storyteller “with a passion for Henry Lawson and the Australian tradition” Mick is making his second visit to the Country Music Festival.  Tamworth fans will be familiar with Mick for pop hits such as ‘Fathers Day’ or ‘Monday’s Experts’ and ‘Moving On’ the duet with Blundell from the ‘Portrait of a Man’ album.
