Well ...all vocals are done. Just have to wrap up the acoustic song. We will get to that next week. Songs should be mixed and mastered soon! Stay tuned!!
Friday, July 10, 2009
So yesterday at the studio we finished up all the guitar tracks except the acoustic song we are recording. Crickle flew through his tracks and managed to get done quickly so the band could have rehersal that night for their show Saturday at the Rack in Jackson, TN.
The rest of the acoustic song will get finished this weekend so the vocals can get started next week! We are getting extremely close to getting finished and releasing the new music! Wish us luck!

Time: 12.52pm (estimated). Place: gnoB Studios. Parties involved: Andy Kunkel, Justin "slow-finger" Rublaitus.

Today threatened to be a short and uneventful day... with only "Undertow" and "Make It Through" to be recorded. How could we have ever been so... CORRECT (da-da-daaaaaaah>>>Suspenseful Music). There wasn't much to do, and not much was done, so done was the not much to do...

>>>Justin wrapped up with his parts in a short while (before a lunch break even!!!) and no major incidences were to take place... but don't think that no preventative measures were taken...

Tomorrow Crickle will start on his clean parts (he probably should have been cleaning
his parts all along... but thats another blog entirely!)

The day was July 7th. Time 1.22pm (was supposed to occur at 12pm, but rocking takes a full night/mornings rest).
Justin arrived at the studio to wrap up the rest of his guitar tracks. On the agenda, all of "Average Day", all of the leads, and then all clean parts of the songs that have them. "Average Day" was recorded after a few "sleepy" tracks were gotten out of the way. The leads were next in line. These took a little while to dial in the right tone/guitar mix (Justin brought 4 guitars to the studio to use for different parts... can we say "gear whore"). Once the leads were done (first for "Amazed by the Change", and then "Have You Heard?") it was lunch time.

>>>A quick swing by the McDonalds later...

The amp used for dirrty guitar parts (Justin's 5150) and cab were packed up and moved out of the studio, and the newly retubed and cleaned (Thanks Donn!) 1975 Fender Twin Reverb was set up and mic'd for the clean parts (It was acting funky after recording "Falling at Your Feet" a week or so ago). Justin finished (in this order) the intro/outro in "Average Day", the cleans in "Have You Heard?", and "Can't Let You Go", as well as some experimental parts in 2 songs (which may or may not end up staying there, still up in the air about it) before needing to leave to go to work.

The following is a true story. The names have not been changed and no artistical embellishments to the story have been made. Please be warned that the following tale may contain some disturbing visuals and/or situations.

The day began just like any other studio trip that Roses UnRead had made in the past few days: with Allison, Crickle, and Justin setting up and making arrangements for a full day of recording before returning safely back to their homes... or would they...

Crickle was to begin the day, recording the dirty (distorted) guitar tones for all or most of the songs. He quickly got to work, and after a few short takes, knocked out "Have You Heard". As none of Roses UnRead had eaten prior to arriving, the group decided to take an early lunch break and with that they were off to the KFC/Taco Bell (the band has been supporting this establishment quite a bit in the past weeks... maybe some sort of endorsement is in order...). Both Crickle and Justin would partake of the new grilled chicken, and Allison went for tacos.

...Later at the Studio and after Lunch

Crickle got back into groove quickly after lunch and began working on "False Alarm". Everything was going quite well with Justin and Allison making suggestions to any parts with errors... UNTIL... Justin felt the slightest of rumblings in his tummy, but quickly dismissed it as the digestion of his scrumptious chicken meal (or gas) and got back to the task at hand. Then suddenly a much MUCH stronger rumbling and Justin knew that trouble was brewing that would not be so easily avoided in the studio. He quickly dismissed himself to the bathroom to "clear himself" of this rumbling.

Upon the completion of his task he made a most terrifying discovery...

>
NO TOILET PAPER!!!

Its okay he told himself...

>Someone will need to use the restroom soon. But no one did...
>There must be some toilet paper nearby. But there was not...
...MINUTES PASS...
>He could call Allison and tell her to find toilet paper. But she did not answer...
>Maybe run around the house and try to find some TP. Half-naked? What if someone where to come home...
...MORE MINUTES PASS...OR WAS IT DAYS...
>Call Allison again (x7). Still no answer...
>Try Crickle. Phone OFF...
...LEGS ASLEEP, FATIGUE SETS IN...
>Finally Justin accepts his fate and begins walking towards the light at the end of the tunnel breathing out his last breaths...

THEN SUDDENTLY "Are you alright in there" Allison asks in a joking manner.
"NO NO NO! 911! Mayday, Mayday! SEEK TOILET PAPER!"

>>>Thus began a small flurry of panic throughout the Studio/home as all search parties began their quest.

>>>Justin was saved after 35+ minutes (read as 7-12 days) of agonizing torture, to which he nearly succumbed. He has since made a full recovery (after about 4 seconds) and is expected to be able to work on and complete the Roses UnRead record in the coming weeks!

So far, "False Alarm", "Undertow", "Falling at your Feet", "Make it Through", "Average Day", and "Can't Let You Go" have drum tracks and tomorrow we will finish drum tracks on "Have You Heard?", "Amazed by the Change", and an acoustic song. We have recently started working on a new album with our producer Andy Kunkel at gnoB Studios in Atoka, TN. Yesterday or "our first day in" we did scratch tracks and started on drums. So far the outcome looks promising. We will be back in the studio this Tuesday! Wish us luck! :)
