Are you a musician or fan of music?  Do you live in the Southern California area or may be through this way on tour?

If so, consider adding the Songwriting Showcase to your friends.
And maybe even adding a kind word or two...our wall looks so lonely right now.

Thanks!

Current mood:  tired
As the title might indicate, I've been a busy bee, buzzin' all over the place.
I have to share this sweet video that my brother and I made.
It's pretty cool!

We did the whole thing using the stop motion technique.  It's rough, but we did it in two hours (plus an hour or so of editing).

This weekend was the third Songwriting Showcase at Home Brew Coffee.  Each time it has grown and been better each time as well.  I'm very excited for what it might bring next.

Here was my set for the evening:

Live For The Line Not For The Dot
Don't Give Up
May He Keep You As You Go (Irish Blessing Song)
Keep Me Coming Back
All I Want Is You (U2 Cover)
1 2 3 4 (Feist Cover featuring Jaron Eldon on ukelele)

I think I might have done one or two other songs in there, but for the life of me I can't remember.  I do know that we had a great group of people show up.  Lots of new open mic'rs and many returning folks.

The Floating Heads made their second appearance...ever...and John R. Williamson dropped in for a lovely 3 song serenade.  Basically, there was too much to possibly try and write down.  Suffice to say, all had a good time and some great music was played.

Oh, and my new album is arriving next week.
CD release show scheduled for June 20th.
Be there?

Peace,

Steve

In case you didn't know or hadn't heard, at least fourteen of us will be celebrating the month of February and the new songs we wrote.

This Saturday, March 14, 14 songwriters will share at least a new song or two from the songs created as part of FAWM.ORG's songwriting challenge to "Write 14 Songs In 28 Days".

Come be a part of this evening hosted by yours truly...me.

Click on the show date under my music player for my details.

Did I mention it's FREE?  And they have Free WiFi if you buy something.  So, it's not TOTALLY free, but it's MOSTLY free.

That title was meant to draw attention.  And it was also the name of the last two songs performed by John R. the other night at the Zephyr, so really, it wasn't just an attention getter, but a reporting of fact.

Show Notes 1/17/09:  performing with John R. Williamson at The Zephyr in Pasadena

http://zephyrcoffeeandart.com/

The last time I played a live show I was in Redlands, CA at The Vault Martini Lounge.  That was in September of '08.  I HAVE been quite busy finishing an LP and EP and writing lots of new songs, so I have a pretty good excuse.

All that to say that I threw my hat back into the live performance arena last night with a "between set" for singer/spitfire/songwriter John R. Williamson.

John invited me to play a few songs between his sets and it felt like the perfect opportunity to perform some of these songs that I've finished for the album.

The venue?  The Zephy;  a cool, funky little coffee house on Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.

Here's a picture of that:  http://...com/9fvrnv

Songs performed were mostly from my new LP (as of yet untitled).  I did the following songs:

May He Keep You As You Go
Every Chance You Get
Keep Me Coming Back
Move On

Keep Me Coming Back, the oldest song on my LP, was also a crowd favorite.  Now, when I say "crowd" I mean, the 5-7 people in the room.  :)  They were a very nice, attentive crowd.  And at The Zephyr, it actually felt like a crowd.

I had a great time performing but I had an even better time listening to John perform 2+ hours of his own originals.  He has a song repertoire that goes MILES deep.   It was also a lot of fun watching John and Ikuko interacting with their 3 year old Mizuki.  Between each song you would hear him clap and say "Yeah, Daddy".  He also rocked out mimicking the drums.

I will post more later on the progress of  my new cd.   For now keep checking in to my homes on the web:

I have a new website in the works that should be up by the time my new album is up.  I just have to learn a few things...

Peace,

Steve
