I teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at TAG Gymnastics in Orange, Texas. Classes are Tuesdays AT 8:00PM, Thursdays at 8:30PM and Saturdays at 10AM.
I started BJJ around 1996 with Pat "Hawk" Hardy. I was teaching Karate and Japanese JJ at the time. Two of my friends started training with Pat (Jeff Book and Patrick Head) and after about a month they were killing me on the mat. So I had to check it out. I showed up and got schooled by some white belts. I was instantly hooked. I tried for a few years to do both, teach my own stuff and train BJJ on the side. I eventually gave it up and converted my teaching over to BJJ. I have had alot of injuries and other things that have interrupted my training over the years, but I keep coming back for some reason. I must really like this stuff.
When I started, Pat was a blue belt and everyone else was a white belt. Now Pat is a black belt, two more guys are black belts, a few browns and purples, and more blues than anyone can remember. I got my blue in 2000 and my purple in 2006, both from Royce Gracie. I am right on schedule to be a black belt about 2020!! :)
We have a very informal club that practices strictly gi based BJJ. Mainly because of the location and limited class times. One day I hope to expand and include no-gi and MMA.
