Current mood: chill
No....Shadwell is not collectively pregnant as the title might suggest...but our full length recording is nearing the end of it's baking process so to speak...much like the aforementioned bun (aforementione - don't get to use that word every day).
Ducky Carlisle has been, quite frankly, working his nards off to get the songs mixed. We are done tracking and we are literally days away from the final mixes to the songs. We are incredibly happy with the work Ducky has been doing and couldn't be more stoked to share the music with everyone. We've narrowed the song order list and should be getting the album mastered within the month. Can't believe we're almost done with what has been a trying journey for the band. I think we've come out the other end having worked through a few musical and emotional conflicts as a better band, we hope this comes across in the recording.
Hope to see some of you next week on Thursday, Dec. 3rd at the Hennessy's show at 25 Union St. in Boston near Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market (or "Mahkit" in the local venacular...). It's a Toys for Tots benefit and $5 and a toy gets you in the door ($10 for those being a Scrooge and not feeling the spirit who show up without a gift!). Shadwell will be on at 9pm, so come down and support a good cause.
Wishing all who are celebrating a safe and peaceful Thanksgiving...
Jimmy ~ Shadwell

To everyone who voted online to get us onstage at the 2009 Boston Music Spotlight Battle of the Bands and then to all of you who came out Friday and helped us be named the winners - THANK YOU. Boston Music Spotlight put together a great event and everyone we shared the stage with had an awesome set - go see Polyethylene, In Like Lions, Taste, and Silent Century when you have a chance. And for that matter, go see any of the local bands that are always playing throughout the city in general. Boston is full of musicians working hard to get their music out and they (we) can't do it without you.
Thanks, Shadwell

Current mood: ecstatic
After posting blogs, video montages, pictures, sending text messages, email updates and talking to you at shows over the past 10 months….it’s here…or should I say “hear.” We know you can only hear us say “the CD is coming soon” so many times before you demand of us to “shut up and show us the money.” Our full length recording process is finally coming to an end…which means the tunes and their release are coming to fruition. And by fruition, I mean the fruit of our labor, so picture a large yellow plastic banana that has been melted into the shape of a CD! What does that have to do with anything, I don’t know... So of course you ask, “How do I, as a consumer of Shadwell ditties, get this muzak and when is the CD release show?” Well for that information you will still have to wait, but for now, due to your overwhelmingly good patience since last October when we announced that we were heading into the studio, we are pleased to share 4 “pre-release tracks” on Myspace. We will be posting these 4 songs here on myspace tomorrow at NOON, that’s NOON on Thursday, August 20th. This is our way of saying “THANK YOU” for continuing to support the band and to let you know we haven’t forgotten about you and we haven’t been leading you on like a nasty little minx, although that could be dangerously fun as well, but that’s an entirely separate blog. In all seriousness, we hope you enjoy the new songs we have been painstakingly crafting with Ducky Carlisle at the helm. During this process we have bickered like small school children, we have laughed and cursed like drunken sailors, and most of all we have fretted and worried about this CD and hope that the effort and emotional energy is well represented in the songs. Tune in tomorrow at noon, and we hope many times after, to check out the new material. Please come down to the MidEast Upstairs show in ....Cambridge.... this Saturday, August 22nd, doors open at 8pm, as we would love to hear in person what you think of the new music. And as always, please share our music with others and let us know what you think of the new songs…we love hearing from you! Cheers, Jimmy ~ Shadwell

Just wanted to thank everyone who was a part of the Walk for Hunger this past Sunday - whether you walked it, sponsored someone who did, helped make the event happen - whatever time and energy you put into it made a difference to a lot of people.
We were glad to be a part of it all and hopefully our music gave people an extra kick for the final leg of the walk. Thanks to everyone that hung out with us at Daily Field, hopefully we'll be back next year to do it all again.
Rob

Current mood: groggy
It's 6:38am, do you know where your children are?
I'm sitting here eating a bowl of Cheerios with some strawberries, a banana, and a glass of OJ to start the day. I've been eating like a pig because I'm training for a marathon. Why you may ask, why not. I guess I've been bitten by the running bug and wondering if I can do it, feels great after going for a long run and you have that runner's high...sweet...and free, except for shoes of course. The goal is the Hartford Marathon in October...we'll see.
And many thanks to everyone that came out to the show last night, as always we appreciate the support. It was alot of fun, Cupcakes and Cocktails were being served, interesting combination, yet very tasty indeed. And speaking of tasty, the other bands on the bill were great, Venessa Kafak a great singer songwriter and Krysta Youngs a rock Diva threw down last night as well. DJ Reason is a comedian that MC'd the night and you should check him out... he does stand-up around the area.
We continue to plug away on the full length recording and have hopes that it will be done by the summer...key word being hope...It's been alot of fun and painful at times. As happens it can get really tense during the recording process, but the band seemed to work through it and come out the other side with 16 tunes that are almost done. It will be hard to pick the dozen or so we want on the full length, but that will sort itself out I'm sure. Music...it does a body good....

Current mood: creative
Ok so I'm just waking up after both Saturday and Sunday proving to be really productive in the studio this weekend. Jimmy and Rob finished up bass and drums for 8 tracks by Sunday night around 10pm. We celebrated with some good scotch (and italian spritzer for those in the band not imbibing) and cheap stinky cigars which I still taste this morning. Looks like Ben and Aaron will begin laying down cigars, or rather guitars later today now that the basics are done. We're going to start around Noon and go until the wee hours again.
Despite the recording process being creatively fulfilling and a hell of alot of fun hanging with the band and Ducky Carlisle, its also surprisingly draining. Most of us slept in late today and man did I need it. It takes alot out of you to be that intensely focused as a group on the goal at hand and put that much energy into nailing your parts.
We'll give more of a report later today or tomorrow morning, but for now, seems all is moving forward at a good clip. The goal was to get 8 basic tracks (bass & drums) done by Sunday night, and we accomplished that!
I'll also put in a plug that we just got a gig for 9pm, Thursday, April 2nd at Johnny D's in Somerville at Davis Square with Krysta Youngs and Venessa Kafka. We'll also be doing the "giving back" thing on May 3rd again this year playing the Walk for Hunger, so if you do the walk, we'll see you that day!
As always, thanks for the continued interest and support!
Cheers ~ Shadwell

Current mood: drained
Spent, as in tapped, as in used up...
That is my current state of mind. We set up shop over at Ducky's place in Medford to lay down the last basic tracks on our forthcoming full-length. We were able to nail the bass and drums for Flatline, Chemical Weapon, Fingertips, and Ever Stop. Not bad for a day and couple extra hours last night worth of work. Last night we started by getting some drum sounds, we're using a mix of old Ludwigs: one of my 1966 Ludwigs and some of Ducky's 1965 Ludwige kit and a 1970's Ludwig kick, sounding nice! After we had the drums tweaked we only rolled off one tune as it was already getting pretty late, I was sick and had been up since 5am and everyone was hungry so we wrapped up and went out to Felicia's, a great Italian joint in Medford, great staff, good food, check it out, you'll also go home with a meal for later as the plates are the size of Nebraska.
After the food, booze and cappuccino orgy we went back to Ducky's and listened to some of the pre-production demos we made and talked about where we wanted to head over the next few days with some of the tunes. Well after midnight we all headed home so we could get cracking at Noon today (which technically was yesterday since it's now after midnight).
Unfortunately, as hangover's have a way of doing, the day got off to a slower than expected start, but that said, it was great to start the weekend off with some fun and bonding before really diving in to the home stretch for this full-length (we'll chalk it up to musician's hours). Once we started diggin' in today, things were moving along pretty good. We got the drums and bass tracks done for three more songs in addition to last night's track and then went out for some Chinese food and a Suffering Bastard. (It's ok, I didn't know what this was either until one of the guys ordered it).
So tomorrow, we plan on starting around high Noon and will go well into the night again. Hopefully we will have drums and bass done for at least 6 or 7 tracks total by the end of the day. I would imagine we'll get to start laying down some guitars certainly by Monday if not late tomorrow. It's great to see it slowly coming together...we're really looking forward to sharing this with everyone.
Anyway, i'm going to go chill out and unwind in front of a soccer match on Fox Soccer Channel, my latest vice...more to come...
Cheers, Jimmy ~ Shadwell
