On ..October 17, 2009.., I headlined a Benefit Concert for the highly publicized missing child Haleigh Cummings, our attendance was low to say the least.  But after over a month of receiving thousands of emails, calls and messages I have discovered various reasons for the low attendance. One reason was unexpected; everyone wishes or says they want to do something about what in my opinion is an epidemic, 800,000 missing children yearly, but very few people actually do something!  I had promises of attendance, donations, volunteering, etc that were cancelled at the last minute, even the media did not publish our press releases except for two out of thousands. Why?  Many reasons, but many were hesitant to donate to help a family that in their eyes has been dishonest with donations from the beginning, but the funds were going to the search and reward not the family!  Talk shows, bloggers, websites, etc have focused on the drugs, sex, and scandals involved in a case that has captured ....America....’s heart and attention.  The family has kept the media busy with all their dirty laundry!  A valid point made by Blog Talk Radio host Simon Barrett and I quote,” If it wasn’t for the dirty laundry the case would be a file gathering dust like thousands of others”.  I agree!  However, no matter what the sins of the family, we need to focus on finding this beautiful child and the thousands like her. Let’s face it we all have our dirty little secrets!  The reason why they concentrate on the dirty laundry is because of the one reason I stated above, everyone wishes they could do something but they ..DON..’T.  If everyone got involved, there would be no need for the scandals!  There are so many resources out there that can help those families but they do not know about them, we need to raise awareness, we need to wake up and face the facts, our children are MISSING!.  At the benefit concert, I met Tim Miller, president of Texas Equusearch.  He had a personal experience with his own daughter, this man decided to ..GET.. INVOLVED and help others that are going through the pain and desperation that he went through. He has been criticized by some for various reasons.  In my eyes, the only thing that really matters is that he does something about a horrible situation that most people ignore or sit at home wishing they could do something about!  Organizations like National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Klass Kids Foundation, Texas Equusearch and others are doing something every single day!  What can we do?  ..GET.. INVOLVED!  Send out emails, pass out flyers, attend benefits, and donate.  If you do one thing a month and thousands are doing it, imagine the results!  There are two amazing women that spend hours daily making videos, passing out emails, etc.  Connie and Dolly are making a difference!  If you are unsure of the credentials of an organization, family or person, send your donations to the ones I mentioned, they will make sure the money is spent to help find these children.  Educate every child in your life, visit our website for information on how to help protect them:  http://www.samwatkinscountry.com/Protect_Your_Child.html or research other sites for information.  My point is ..GET.. INVOLVED!  Keep your eyes and ears open at all times, if anyone around you acts suspicious don’t investigate it yourself; let the professionals do it for you, call the police!  Sign up for Amber Alerts.  Help those organizations and families with missing children with flyer distribution, emails, etc.  It may not be your child, but imagine if it was!  How would you feel, who would you turn to, would you ask YOU for help?  I was asked recently, would you do another Benefit Concert for Haleigh or another missing child, my answer was YES, I would do anything in my power to help any family in their darkest hour and no matter what their sins may be, no one deserves that kind of pain!  TJ Hart of The Sky 97 in Gainsville ....Florida.... is another person that gets involved and he is willing to promote and put me in touch with the right people to do a benefit concert for Haleigh and other missing children.  We are thinking of having it in March 2010.  Will keep you informed as dates and details are finalized.  I am putting together a schedule of gigs, benefits, concerts, media events, etc for the next 13 months, if you want to ..GET.. INVOLVED, call, email or send me a message; together we can help bring Haleigh and over 800,000 missing children HOME!

On October 31, 2009, I met and performed a benefit for a great guy that I really liked his name is Shane Boyd.  This is his story!

WSPBR Reserve World Champion Bull Rider Age 41-46 2009....

Shane Boyd, from ....Bastrop...., ....Texas...., started riding his first bull in 1971, at the age of 9. He is a third-generation cowboy from the ....Austin.... and ....Bastrop.... area. Shane's father, Charles F. Boyd, was a Team Roper, who won the 1997 Walnut Creek Team Roping Championship, as well as several others in his years. ....

Shane's Uncle, Robert 'Muscles' Boyd, is inducted in the Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame. He worked for Buck Steiner as a rodeo clown, of the Steiner Rodeo Company. Muscles' son, Bubba Boyd, also rode bulls.   ....


....

Shane's younger brother, Waco Boyd, was a bull fighter for the Lester Meyer Rodeo Company and fought bulls for two years in the Rough Stock National Finals in ....North Dakota.... with 'Brother Taylor'.....


....

From 1982 to1984 Shane rose to stardom with Lester Meyers Rodeo Company to winning high school rodeos with his first Open Pro, to ..TRA.. (Texas Rodeo Pros), to CPRA (Cowboy Pro Rodeo Association), to many Open Pros to 1989. Shane retired in 1989 after he cracked three vertebrae in his back while riding in the Brent Thurmon Memorial Bull Riding. ....

In 1997, 1998, and 1999, Shane came out of semi retirement winning a few Open Pro Bull contests.  He retired once again, and in 2008, Shane came out of retirement riding in the Texas Senior Pro Rodeo Rodeo Association (TSPBRA), and won his first bull ride at the Taylor Senior Pro Cancer Benefit in 2008, scoring 83 points on 'Scar Baby', owned by Ralph Swearingen, of ....Bastrop...., ....Texas.........

Continuing with the TSPBRA, in ....Texas...., making the Top Ten in 2008, Shane continued into 2009 with the World Senior Pros (WSPBR), winning 10 championships, age groups (41-46), and winning two overall contests. Shane had the high score of the year in San Antonio with 88 points on a bull named Red Onion, that was previously NOT RIDDEN, then went on to ride Red Onion once again in Saginaw Texas, scoring 80 points, and  winning the overall contest once again.  ....

After getting badly injured in August, 2009 at the 62nd Annual Bastrop Homecoming and CPRA Rodeo, and miraculously walking away with his life, Shane continued to compete for the number one spot in the 2009 WSPBR finals in October. Shane rode what turned out to be his final bull ride in Mabank, ....Texas.... on ..September 12, 2009.. (Video included) on bull 'K103 of Knapp Rodeo Company, Rendon, ....Texas..... He was hit in the head and shattered four bones on the left side of his face, and walked away with his life, once again. ....

He is positioned to hold the Reserve World Championship title at the WSPBR finals, and will pursue his love of bull riding by teaching youngsters, judging future bull rides, and focusing on future bull riding benefits for those that are injured in the sport. ....

August 8, 2009  I performed at a benefit called "On Pegasus Wings", it was a lot of fun and my blog was erased so I am reposting it because I think it is a great cause!

On Pegasus' Wings supports children with disabilities, families and recovering veterans in problem solving settings outside classrooms and clinical environments; enabling them to confront obstacles in their lives through interaction with  horses. Their mission is to integrate programs with family counselors, physical therapy organizations, state social service agencies, and local mental health centers. ....

Their physician supported programs are not focused on teaching individuals to simply ride horses but rather to empower them with emotional and physical growth and accomplishment. Their therapies teach individuals about themselves and help them to overcome physical and emotional challenges and dysfunctional patterns in their lives. By encouraging individuals to overcome obstacles with these tools they can help them to regain confidence and belief in themselves for a brighter future. Their workshops are not intended to replace medical care for those who need it but are designed to help individuals with their own self discovery.

BENEFIT CONCERT FOR HALEIGH CUMMINGS

On ..October 17, 2009.., we held a Benefit Concert for missing child Haleigh Cummings.  
We had a dream of how it would all turn out.  Life is not a dream and reality doesn’t always live up to our dreams, sometimes it just works 
out in a different way.  
Like most of the country, we had been seeing Haleigh’s picture everywhere.  We fell in love with her; and because of our past experiences 
we felt close to her family even though we did not know them.  On October 17, we met them.  We met her mother Crystal Sheffield, her 
grandmother Marie Griffith, and her 10 year old aunt ....Savannah.....  Crystal and Tina embraced immediately, two mothers that know what it is like
to have a missing child.  They did not know each other, just on the internet; but the bond was strong!  
We spent all night with them, talking, laughing, crying and in sometimes in complete silence.  Tina’s daughter had her baby with her and ....
Crystal.... wanted to hold him.  She did not let go for a very long time, watching her you could see her motherly love and nurturing instincts, 
there was nothing more touching and beautiful at that moment. She is the kind of person that hides her pain well, but everyone around her 
that night knew that she loves her little girl with all her heart and soul.  Her heart was breaking every single moment!  Like she said, 
“No body knows what she has gone through in her life and how she really feels about her children”.  
Everything she said and did proved to us that her pain is unbearable and very real.
We made some life-long friends!  Their strength and class was apparent in everything they did.  They were very kind to our staff and 
volunteers, everyone felt like 
they had known them for years.  
The best part of the night came all the way from Houston!  Mr. Tim Miller from Texas Equusearch drove all the way from Houston, Texas to 
the Benefit to meet Crystal and Marie.  They talked like old friends and made plans to search for Haleigh.  Crystal and Marie told us that 
they had never met Mr. Tim Miller and if it wasn’t for the Benefit, they probably would not have met.  ....Mission.... accomplished!  
Mr. Tim Miller will use all his resources to help Crystal and Marie and will not give up until Haleigh is found!  
The rest of the night, they enjoyed the music and company.  There was less stress and pressure in their hearts, they knew that Mr. Miller 
would never give up! 
Meeting Mr. Miller was a great pleasure for us all, a nicer and kinder man, we have never met.  That night brought together a lot of 
amazing people that might have never met, all were there for a beautiful little girl that most of us have never met but yet we all love her!  
 
Let’s all help Mr. Tim Miller “Bring Haleigh Home!”
