The October 3 issue of the Dayton City Paper is available now and they have given the Dayton Music Fest the cover spot and a nice two-page article about everything going on. Pick your free copy up all around Dayton to read Kyle Melton's article, see profiles of all the bands, and clip out a copy of the schedule to tuck in your pocket. Andy

If anyone is going to spread the word that Dayton is still creating music worth listening to, it has to be The Story Changes. No one even comes close to touring as much as they do. Now with their new album out, "The Way of the Dinosaur" (Future Destination Records), they have even more reason to hit the road and win people over. Listen to "Needle" at their MySpace page to hear a nice hook as well as the dark pop punk that attracts fans to The Story Changes. Then see them live on October 6 at Oregon Express as part of the third annual Dayton Music Fest.
Keep reading as we have only two weeks left to profile all the bands in our countdown to the Dayton Music Fest on October 5 and 6, 2007.

Tickets are now on sale for the Dayton Music Fest. The $10 passes will allow entrance to all five venues on October 6, 2007. Our sixth venue, Creative Sound Cafe, will host shows that are free and all-ages. You can purchase your tickets in advance from the participating bands (this puts money in their pockets if you are friends with any of the bands), online at daytonmusicfest.com, and at Gem City Records, Dingleberrys, or CD Connection. You can also just show up the night of the Fest and buy a pass at the venues.
Tickets for the October 5 Opening Party at Oregon Express are a separate $5 ticket available at the door. The Opening Party is open to the public.

If you are interested in the local music community like we are, there are two good local blogs that we know of who cover the Dayton Music Fest and other tidbits of our Gem City. If you are fan, please read their stuff. If you are a mover and a shaker, please let them know any news that develops. Consider this a public service announcement. The more people we have supporting and creating the scene, the better. Andy
THE BUDDHA DEN Kyle Melton writes for the Dayton City Paper and sees and writes about the shows others miss at his blog The Buddha Den.

DAYTON DAILY NEWS Kris Neises writes for the Dayton Daily News and runs the local music blog at daytondailynews.com. We keep plugging his site not only because he works hard it covering bands that others may not give any press to, but he is also a really nice guy. He also writes some insanely catchy pop songs as you can witness at this year's Dayton Music Fest. Kris N plays a free set at Creative Sound Cafe on October 6.

DON THRASHER Alright, Don doesn't have a blog that I know of, but if not for his "Rock Insider" that appears every week in The Go!, no one would ever know anything about local music. Thrasher is a local legend for good reason. He has played and written about music created here longer than some of us have been alive. Check out Don as he plays the DMF with Kentucky Overflow at The Tumbleweed Connection.

I Love Joe Anderl. Even though that is just the title to the latest full-length by this punk-turned-folkie that is how the people of Dayton should feel about Joe Anderl. He's a young but veteran member of the Dayton and Athens music scenes through his work booking, playing in countless bands, and running Bettawreckonize Media. He just seems to be friends with everyone. The staff at Gem City Records even voted Joe the "Second Nicest Guy in Dayton". But let us not overlook his music. His haunting, sentimental pop songs show the reason everyone should truly love Joe Anderl. He has heart and he is not afraid to share it. See for yourself as Joe Anderl plays two sets on October 6 as part of his third Dayton Music Fest. Anderl will play a free set at Creative Sound in addition to his slot later in the night at The Trolley Stop.
Stay tuned as we profile all the participating artists leading up to the third annual Dayton Music Fest on October 5 and 6.

Shrug IS the Dayton music scene. So it only makes sense to ask them to take part in their third successive Dayton Music Fest. These folk rockers have been local legends since the 1994 release of "Straight to Beta". Their most recent release, "Whole Hog for the Macho Jesus", features more of what made Tod Weidner this town's favorite witty lyricist and Dan Stahl our most in-demand drummer. Tod and Dan are not the only worthwhile parts of Shrug, they are just the founding members. Eric Cassidy, Laky, and super-producer Patrick Himes fill out the band and have been helping them contradict much of rock/n/roll 's history. Unlike Paul McCartney, they are actually getting better the more albums they make.
If you are already a Shrug fan, October 6 is going to be a busy night for you and the band. In addition to their own set, you can check out Tod as he plays lead guitar with The American Static. Dan will have three shows that night as he drums with The American Static as well XL427.
Stay tuned as we profile all the participating bands in our countdown to the Dayton Music Fest happening Saturday October 6, 2007.

One of the main reasons the Dayton Music Fest exists is to give local bands and artists a chance to be heard regardless of what cliques they do or don't fit in. With that idea, we are thrilled to welcome Melonballer as part of this year's roster. This Yellow Springs boy/girl duo, made up of Chris and Jaye 250 and produced by Sleepybird's Jaime Legato, writes some catchy, quirky, and innocent folk songs. We just don't know where they came from. But if Towhee was the surprise of Dayton Music Fest 2006, Melonballer is the discovery of 2007. Listen to "Separate Bodies" at http://www.myspace.com/ohiomelonballer
Stay tuned as we unveil all the participating bands in our countdown to the Dayton Music Fest happening Saturday October 6, 2007.
