So I decided to keep this page running - for what it's worth. I barely come on here anymore, and word around the interwebs is myspace is going to be reorganizing soon anyway, so...

I'm gonna stick with this address. And I'll keep updating here. Since it's at the end of some of my videos anyway.  So what WAS the big deal?

Well, I've sort of moved forward away from GAS MONEY (because as a name, when gas sometimes goes over $4 a gallon... maybe not the best association) and arrived at YOST FLIX MEDIA, which is kind of a name I'm stuck with anyway.

YOSTFLIX.COM is up and running, by the way, but it MOSTLY directs back here at the moment.

So, I've been working with ECHOFISSION lately, and we're moving towards completion of the music video for their track "When Autumn Leaves" (which you can hear on THEIR myspace page). In the meantime I've jumped the gun and released a video for their NEWEST cut, "The Beast," which hasn't even been recorded yet... so that's a little backwards, but hey it's how I roll.

I've also started a partnership on a bunch of new projects for the web, tv, and movies... more on that when there's more to say.

So, I'm here to stay, and keep checkin back!

Well I haven’t blogged in a while. Been busy. So, here’s the what:

The 4H Public Presentations video is now complete and, I’m told, getting rave reviews. Making this project an even bigger step for me is the fact that it involved my first actual use of real visual effects and sound mixing (specifically dialogue looping and foley work). Most of the credit for it coming off as well as it did is due to my cast, but I consider it a personal victory all the same.

In the wake of the 4H project’s completion, I’ve sworn off Facebook, but that decision has led me to create a new website for my projects, past, present, and future. Since these are not the kind of times economically (in my opinion) to refer to oneself as “Gas Money” since… from day to day, that can be a great value or sadistically overpriced… and because no Gas Money website was available, I’ve rebranded my projects under the banner

YOST FLIX

Something like George Lucas’s shingle, but since I’m not a FILM maker, I’ll stick with the whimsy of flix. Plus, it seems to work for Netflix… So, as of now, you can log onto www.yostflix.com which will direct you back here for now, but soon enough there’s going to be actual content live & direct on the site.

Also, I’m going to be establishing a Yost Flix presence on MySpace, and fading out on this page, so be ready for your friend requests. Once I get the Yost Flix page on here up and running, shoot over there for news on the newest projects in place, because all of a sudden things are blowing up - currently, I’m in pre-production on 3 different vids, with more on the way!

Thanks for checking in again and supporting Diner Notes Productions and Gas Money Films & Productions!

I'm not putting it on here cuz it may actually go against the TOS of MySpace... and I'm not that worried about being kicked off of Facebook, but I did a fan-edit-trailer for Star Wars Episode III, and it's up there now, so...

Go to my Facebook page and check it out if you can.

Also, the 4-H script, almost done. The shoot, Saturday. Me, psyched.

Well, I finished and handed in the draft of the script for the new 4H video yesterday, and apparently they love it. Which is great, since I really busted my butt working on it. Funny thing, how different it is when you're writing for somebody else using other people's materials as a guide but putting it into your words, trying to make it cinematic (I actually put the shots into the script, so that they'd see what I'm planning)... Anyway, good exercise in case I ever get tapped to write Nightmare on Elm Street 17 or something.

Speaking of which... GHOST RIDER 2 with Nic Cage... Why? REBOOT, people! Word is they're looking for writers... but even I can't see a way to continue using Cage.. he's just all wrong! I grant you, somebody's going to hitch their wagon to it, being it's a payday, and maybe... just maybe they'll find themselves another job after it, but I'm not optimistic. Makes me realize that Mark Steven Johnson may just be a genius, being that the worst aspects of the GR movie were things that he pointed out in the doc's on the DVD's were things that Cage brought in... granted, he said they were brilliant ideas, but I ask you... is that maybe just a sly move to make sure that the message (wasn't me) got out there? Mayhap.

So I'm shooting the new video next weekend. Pretty psyched, did some costume purchasing today, went well. Trying to think what else there is to say, but beyond that I spent the day playing Scrabble, watching the documentaries on the Zodiac and Weird Science DVD's, weeding out my DVD collection (thanks to Netflix), and watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture in an attempt to wind-down. Which I'm not, really, but it's late and when I crash out this late usually I end up with an anxiety attack. Don't want none of that, so I'm going to head off.

Anyway, I'm going to try and pick this back up as I move towards production and post-production with this new project, and a couple of other things that I sort of worked out in my head (and with some help) today over lunch-dinner. The return of an old project? Maybe... A new script? Definitely...

More to come.

Well I guess I should kick another daily blog off.
I'm in the pre-production stages of doing another video with Morris County 4H, actually it's the one that I was originally contracted to do.
This is going to be a LOT longer than the "recruitment" video, and actually should be a really great DVD project.
More info to come, just wanted to kick this off, even though I've been working on this actively since before the new year!

So, I'm writing a new short, and I already started the editing of the movie itself.

Weird, huh? I guess somewhere near the end I'll shoot the thing.

something today. Not gonna say much about it except that:

1) it's a short

2) it's dramatic

3) it's pseudoautobiographical... that is to say it's a sort of "exorcising the demons" piece

More in the coming days. This one shouldn't take long.

OK, well, I took some time off in the post-4H timeframe in anticipation of a new project... but that has yet to materialize. So, let's see what I can talk about that's good:

THE BOYS. Great comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson, published by Dynamite Entertainment. At first blush, it's a parody of grim-and-gritty "real-world" superhero books, but the further along the book gets, the more engaging the characters and the situations are. As proof, the most intense battle of the 23 issues currently released was fought by a resurrected-fetishist-superhero-gone-bad against a government agent tasked to take down rogue supers over... a hamster.

DEXTER. We're into season 3, and this series keeps finding ways to expand on its central conceit (a serial killer killing serial killers). There's real evolution to the characters, the performances are solid, it's shot well, and somehow even in a show about forensics and murder, it never feels gratuitous. Oh, it's in Showtime.

IRON MAN. Best. Movie. Of the year. Bought the double-disc DVD, and I'm halfway through the making-of documentary. I've watched dozens of making of's in the last 30 years, and the last time I saw a cast and crew who had such a fun time working on their project (not counting TMAS), it was RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Which goes to explain a lot about why this movie is so great. If you haven't seen this flick yet, BUY IT. Don't rent it, BUY IT. I can't see anyone being disappointed.

TWILIGHT ZONE. I'm into season 3 (of the original series), and while I won't say they're all winners - far from it - it's a safe bet that even a "bad" Twilight Zone ep is going to end with you going "Huh. Well, that wasn't great..." as opposed to so many current shows where the reaction can get to the "Why did I just waste that time?" Plus, they're 24 minutes long. A complete story with solid performances and mood in 24 minutes. How about that.

SUPERGIRL. Seeing as I named the lead character of TMAS after her, clearly this is a character I like. That said, I haven't really liked this character since about 2002. Thankfully, the overhaul of SUPERMAN (by James Robinson and  Renato Guedes which is starting to pick up steam with its latest issue, focusing on Krypto the Super-Dog) and ACTION COMICS (awesome all around work by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank) continues here with the new team of Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle. Great stuff. (from DC Comics)

So, those are a few things I've been digging.

Fun game, that one section aside. I kicked Vader's butt over the Death Star, and fought Palpatine to a standstill... and died. But, that's how stuff rolls sometimes. 2 victories in 2 days. Gettin to like this roll I'm on. Knock on wood.

So, the 4H video is done! (In fact, by the time you read this, you'll be able to watch it) I'm happy with the results, the 4H people are happy with the results...

I'M BACK!

So, that's cool. Here starts the flood of projects. There've been a few things hanging out in reserve waiting for this to be done... now that it is, it's their turn!

Anyway, let me once again shoot out the highest thanks to JAYMIE GERARD, whose song LET IT SHINE is the music in the clip, and SARIC, who mixed me an instrumental cut of the tune under the tightest deadline possible. Finally, thanks to the great staff at 4H, Terri and Rachel, who got me involved in this program in the first place. They run a great program, and I'm happy to be a part of reaching out to more kids AND adults to be a part of it!

Here's to more and more videos to show you in the not-so-distant future!
