Set In Stone- Understrung E.P:

This band has a very wide range of talents and different approaches to music which is shown through the songs that they produce.
As a first E.P this has been a promising start from the four members of Set In Stone.
Starting with their first song 'Nowhere Fast' which has a very Metallica influenced intro.
The vocals have a slight edge to them which brings out a good atmosphere in this song, a wise choice as an opening song for this E.P.
'Understrung' the title track of the E.P has a very typical Tool feel about it, but they have made it work as they have made it into their own sound. The build up at the end of the song has allowed the guitarists ability to stand out; it has given the song a nice finish to it.
'Personal Philosophy' is an explosion of emotion, this song has a buzz to it, the way the music wraps around the lyrics brings you into this song, it's one of those songs that sucks you in and has your full attention until the end.

You can see that they have got their inspiration from such bands as Tool, Opeth and Sound Garden.
This band's influences do show through their music, but at the same time they have their own sound, which is pure and extremely enjoyable to listen to.
It's the kind of music for all types of moods, you could listen to it while chilling out or when you're getting ready to go out for the night.
This band have an extremely potential sound, some of the best work I've heard from an unsigned band in a very long time, I have all faith that this band have what it takes to go the whole way, they are something special that I would advise anyone to check out this year.
Considering this band have in band terms only been working all together since around 2005, they have the tightness of a band that have been playing together for over a decade.
Overall I would recommend this E.P to anyone, I think this is a sound that all can appreciate.
A promising E.P, from a promising band.

With huge sounds, growling guitars, heavy drums and In Excess style vocal delivery, opening song 'Nowhere Fast' is certainly not relating to the career of this talented band, as this track is so meaty you could make a meal out of it!!

'Understrung', the track that shares it's name with the EP, is more of a slow building affair, with a great riff to propel it forward, before 'Personal Philosophy' seems at times to be lumped in the 'rock ballad' genre, with strong imstrument work pulling it away. The vast talent on show makes this feel like the end of a musical journey, and not a 3 track EP.

Obviously with a lot of raw talent, as long as their style isn't set in stone and they can continue to produce different tracks, with more emphasis on the rock of Nowhere Fast, they'll be big. Quick.

Four member rock band with a metal and classic rock edge. They stand out as having one of the best vocalists in Leicester/shire - Steve Faulkner is one hell of a good singer. Backed by three superbly good musicians, this is one of the most promising of our local harde rock bands. Hard working and dedicated guys, they have recently recorded an EP. Since their formation in 2004, the band has changed the lineup a couple of times, but now they are offering some epic gigs, with their melodic, groovy sounds, searing riffs, chugging baselines and pounding drums.
