I hope everyone has a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

I was warned by my doctor I had to quit. It was getting the best of my teeth and stomach. So I did my best and tried to give it up.

After almost a year, I caved to temptation and the
insatiable cravings. Now I'm back at it again like I never stopped. From the moment I popped the top I knew I was doomed. That was eight months ago and as of last Thursday I decided to try and quit again since I'm almost up to an eight-pack a day.

Let me tell ya, cold turkey ain't the way to go.

The migraines from the caffeine and sugar withdrawal to say the least have been debilitating so, I've decided the best approach is two a day. One in the morning, one in the evening and a handful of Tylenol in between to keep the demons at bay.

Who ever thought giving up Coke-A-Cola could be so tough?

After a very long winter, the five-foot snow banks are a memory and we can safely venture outside without worrying about freezing to death in the process.

It looks like Michigan monsoon season is taking a break for the moment. It's funny how the rains stop just when you think you're about to grow gills and algae starts growing on the cement.

The tree frogs are back and have taken up their yearly ritual of spending dusk to dawn yelling in the open bedroom window. This always triggers reinstatement of the frog relocation program. Frog relocation means gently removing them from around the window and walking them to the pond at back of the property. Here they can visit about a million screaming friends, who are capable of chirping for hours at a mind numbing decibel level guaranteed to cause hearing loss if exposed for any serious length of time.

The does have given birth to beautiful fawns who love to play in the tall ferns next to the house. This also signals the end of anything that resembles a flower or any other decorative plant yard. But...I figure it's all right, they were here first. I'm just glad we're able to give them a little variety. A steady diet of corn, acorns and clover has to get old after a while.

The snakes are back doing their job, I'm not really sure but I think it's to eat bugs, maybe mice and to terrify our dog.

We may have two new residents this year. I've spotted a huge turtle and a fox a few times behind the house!

Yep...all the signs are here...it's finally summer.

Hope you're all enjoying it!

A friend visited my page the other day and told me it was boring.

I agree wholeheartedly...it is boring, but as long as I'm cursed with living in a rural area not privileged to modern conveniences such as high-speed internet, radio reception and local TV channels, it's going to stay that way. It's my own form of personal revolt against the system and lack of technological advancement in my area.

There are so many things I'd love to do like watch cool videos and download 46MB files from the comfort of my home but since I'm stuck with dial-up until the day I die or move (according to AT&T), it will never happen unless I travel 12 miles to the local library and right now gasoline conservation is a priority in our household.

Therefore, to those of you who keep sending me cool stuff to watch and download, I thank you and I apologize.

I promise to look at them all...just as soon as the powers to be decide those of us living on the outskirts of civilization should be allowed to enter the 21 century.

Whatever happened to President Bush's statement that all homes would have high-speed access by the end of 2007?

Have a great day!

I've turned my husband into a walking advertisement in my latest effort to promote my new novel "A Nation of Expendables".

Here's the front of the shirt. I wish the book cover had come out darker.

Here's the back of the shirt, which I think came out great!
