Notice my attempt at blackmail...

Tuesday, November 03, 2009
After watching Transformers 2 and GI Joe in succession I was left with an unquenchable desire to gouge my eyes out. Therefore I went on a never ending quest to find movies _worth_ watching.

The Wackness - If you remember 1994 (or coming of age/high school) this movie is awesome.

The Great Buck Howard - I don't like Colin Hanks at all, but everything else comes together to make this what I call a 'watcher'.

Tokyo Gore Police - I don't know if you've ever seen a 'gore' movie, but they can be quite entertaining. And this one is very quite entertaining. You know how a movie can be cut so that it feels like a music video? Well this one feels just like an anime. Very fun. SPOILER ALERT: that chick's snatch totally tries to eat that guy

It works, or at least it worked on this odd P4 CPU I have... socket adapter raised
the installed CPU about 1/4 inch beyond what my mounting mechanisms
accounted for. And while the machine was worth some effort (I was able to
install all my remaining PC133 into a 1.6Ghz system, waste not want not). It
wasn't worth "jurry" rigging a retention mechanism. (as it was a 1.6
with PC133 lol).

A quick glance in the ol' junk drawer and I saw the JB weld. A few searches on
Google later and I was left with conflicted feelings. Too many morons with
too many opinions. However one thing was clear, hobbyist have used it in
capacities similar in the fact they involved electrical connections and/or heat.
A further look at some model rocket sites indicated a high (iron?)metal content.
Leading me to believe it would exhibit adequate heat transfer capabilities.

And yup, works like a charm. I think I was reading 112-114F at desktop. Been
a while since we fucked with it. Core 2 Duo laptop with 4gigs of ram turns out
to be quite versatile. ;)

Now this does mean the heat sink itself is pretty much there until a surge, heat or
electro migration takes its inevitable final toll. Till then the fan itself is
easily replaced so really the only time this would be an issue would be when
overclocking or any change detrimental to the current cooling systems (case
migration, increased thermal output from new expansion cards etc).

Not bad option at all, under specific circumstances.

I argue for the legalization and taxation of all illicit substances.
However that being said, I do believe a mechanism should be in place
to force drug users who have proven to be a burden on society into
treatment and in rare cases incarceration and forced sobriety via
weekly blood tests.

For as an advocate torwards greater personal liberty I'm sick of
motherfucking crack heads and drug abusers ruining the chance
for the rest of the citizenry to exercise greater personal liberty in
regards to recreational drug use.

Cuz let's be honest with ourselves, we are a nation of drug users.
Got a pill for everything under the sun. We drink coffee in the
mornings, energy drinks the rest of the day and unwind with a glass
of wine at night.Instead of forcing people into preventative action
in regards to  their own health we instead medicate the sick daily
and oft times indefinitely.

Well if that is going to be the case, I believe I should be allowed
the right to consume marijuana and cocaine as I see fit, in so much as
it does not place a burden or danger on society any more so than
our current prohibition does. However I fear I will never see such
a day due to the recklessness and ignorance of the abusers we see and
deal with daily.

"I must go to your thin mistress because among the women yonder whose bodies were not denied to me there is one woman whom I cannot forget. We loved each other once; we had, as I recall that radiant time, a quaint and callow faith in our shared insanity. Then somehow I stopped caring for these things; I turned to matters of more sensible worth. She took no second lover; she lives alone. Her beauty and her quick laughter are put away, she is old, and the home of no man is glad because of her, who should have been the tenderest of wives and the most merry of mothers. When I see her, there is no hatred in the brown eyes which once were bright and roguish, but only forgiveness and a puzzled grieving. Now there is in my mind no reason why I should think about this woman differently from some dozens of other women who were maids when I first knew them, but there is in my mind an unreason that will not put away the memory of this woman's notions about me." - An Excerpt, The Thin Queen of Elfhame by James Branch Cabell - 1922

I favor decriminalization mainly because criminalization is a morally and materially expensive failure. It is quite ineffective, drives people to crime, corrupts law enforcement, and costs far more than it could possibly be worth, even if one assumes that all drugs are bad for anyone.

The 'war' metaphor, which is a legacy from Lyndon Johnson's 'war on poverty', has never been very satisfactory. In none of these wars is anything that could be called a final victory even imaginable: there will always be poor people; there will always be drugs and drug-users; there will always be civil violence. The "war", therefore, consists of a series of gestures--a drug bust, the capture of a cocaine shipment, an invasion of Panama--all highly publicized, all with clear-cut good and bad guys, and all triumphs for the good. These are just like the wars in 1984, only adapted to democratic conditions.
