At this time a rat, cat, and 2 pigs need to see a vet, we still need more fencing and posts as usual, and the goats and hens need new areas, coops, and shelters so the pigs can have more room. We want to fence the entire field, the feed fund is always hungry *i buy every 4 days, a few friends may need adopted, a few rescued. Please Help Us end this year by meeting many of our goals and continue to do what we love to do for the animals.

P.s. Stay Tuned: Amazingly Rosies Pig Family Rescue and Reunion is almost a complete success! THANKS TO YOU!

Special thanks from Rosie Rose to those of you who have donated to help save her family from slaughter and reunite her with them in Celebration Of Liberation!

Dearest Friends,

Thank you for your continued support and concern for this rather unique three way project to rescue a family of piggies from holiday slaughter, keep them together at our sanctuary as a family forever, and at the same time reunite them with their long lost family member, our amazing friend Rosie Rose! It has been just over three weeks since this campaign began, after learning that the siblings were being offered for sale on Nov. 11th as Thanksgiving huli huli and the adults as holiday ham. The horror of that moment when I saw the ads on Craigslist - Rosie's family for sale to die - is a sickening feeling I will never forget. At that moment, Ii did not think that we would be here at this point, I feared the bad economy would threaten our fundraising efforts. The joy to be sharing the good news is amazing, and what is the good news..? What is happening? What is next? What is needed?

Join us at the Little Pig Meeting under the taro plant for all the latest oinks!

At this point in the pig project, we are happy to remind you all that Rosie's three sisters and one brother are now with us. We are also happy to say that Rosie's Mama is safe and will be arriving to join her family shortly. The delay is from the farmer's side, but we are happy to buy a little time, since we don't have all the funds needed yet to complete the project. I am glad it is him stalling and not us, believe me. The first week started with a bang and we were able to get Rosie's siblings to us. The next week, the farmer wanted to build a crate for the adults, but was painting his daughter's house and wasn't able to. Then came Thanksgiving and this week I called and he still did not build the crate. I have offered the kennels that Francis and Walter arrived in, but since it is just him and his teenage son, I think he wants to use wooden crates to lift the 200 pound adult pigs into the trailer more easily. I could pay to have someone go and pick them up, but to be honest that would cost $300 and I still owe people from picking up Walter and Francis, the obese pigs. It would be the same people doing this pick up, and well... I would rather wait a moment more. I need the time to fundraise.

Donations have completely stopped coming in, and that really mustn't happen if this is to be a success. So we are considering this time to be the beginning of Phase Two of this rescue effort and fundraising project. The cost to have Rosie's Daddy fixed, tusk and hoof trimmed, and vaccinated at the vet will be $400. Rosie's Dad has been living alone for all these years but we want him to join his family and enjoy their company. The vet visit will have to happen before this can be done. I need to fundraise for the vet bill, and to secure the cost to aquire Rosie's Daddy and Auntie. Also needed is another roll of 100 foot horse fence and 20 more t-posts. When you add that all up, it equals... about $1500. The fundraising goal was originally set at $3000 - at this time the goal is more like $3500, but this campaign can be a success if the $1500 more needed is raised in the next two/three weeks.

Photobucket

Above are Rosie's sisters Chrissy and Teresa, the two who were having trouble walking when they arrived along with Chris, the brother. Happily they are all doing much better now. The sisters are being kept separate from the others because they need to rest and recuperate. So they are in with the king of resting, big Uncle Francis! When they are fully recovered, they will all join the others. I knew they were doing better when I was no longer able to catch them for check-ups. Francis (below) awakens from his active dream life to smile for the camera. His tongue was sticking out as usual, but I couldnt get it in the shot...

Photobucket

About a week ago, when we were waiting for Rosie's Mama to arrive, I heard of two pot bellied pigs whose caretaker had moved back to the Philippines. The neighbors adopted his remaining pigs, but they were moving to a residential area and could no longer keep them. I decided since we were in the middle of the pig campaign, and working on the space for welcoming more pigs, that I could adopt these little brothers and let them stay together and join the Love The Animals growing pig family. These two brothers are seen here with Walter. The black and white furry fella is named VanDenBerg and the little black guy is named Patrick. They are real characters and real bundles of oink energy!

Photobucket

Little Patrick has the cutest upturned smile you have ever seen, he usually runs away from me, but for some reason today he was not at all camera shy...

Photobucket

Patrick and Rosie's brother Chris (pictured below) love to play fight, and VanDenBerg likes to join in too. The game is a sort of spin, they just touch sides and spin with their snouts in the air. When Patrick and Vandenberg arrived we were in the middle of a two week rain, the games left them all muddy which I am still hosing off. The ground is almost dry, except for a few puddles, which I see they appreciate being around. The boys try to get Big Ol' Walter to join in the round and rounds, but he just runs away and it becomes a game of chase-the-obese-pig, and the exercise is good for Walter.

Photobucket

We are very happy to say that at last, as we wished, Walter's belly has started to lift off the ground. He was so obese when he arrived, his belly rubbed on the ground when he stood and walked. Diet, along with exercise games, have paid off. Walter is happy too, you can see the pride of a working diet plan in his eyes. Looking good Walter (that is what Walter says!). We will miss his extra pounds and pounds but it is better for his long term health that he lose those pounds now, and he still has a ways to go. Someday I would like to see his eyes (which Ii never have because of the fat on his face). He is a real character, easily startled (due to poor vision perhaps) and has finally stopped being so aggressive with me.

Photobucket

Below Rosie and her sister Rolanda *and VanDenBerg * share a treat of jungle taro leaves (which is supposed to be shade for them, but someone decided otherwise and started eating it!). Rosie is happy the family is arriving, she seems very pleased indeed. The others watch her come up to me and roll over for her belly rub, and I can tell they think looks like it feels nice, but they are too afraid to approach. For now anyway... in time. They are all getting along very well, even at feeding time. The food they go through is amazing. Mini pig pellets are the most expensive bulk feed I have to buy, at $20 for 25 pounds. I am going through it about every 4 days. Please remember this as the rescue campaign ends in success (we hope) if possible please chip in a few bucks from time to time to help feed these piggies. I won't penny pinch on the food, they will always have what they need, and a variety. They are all getting much stronger and healthier due to the proper diet they are enjoying at last. Please help us help them, thanks. Any amount really helps.

Photobucket

The farmer sees that I am keeping my promise of trying to adopt the entire family, so he is holding all meat sales of the rest of the adults for us for the next few weeks. He doesn't really want them to be eaten either, he just has to get rid of them, and selling pigs for food is easier than for pets. He can only deliver on Sundays so it has bought me much needed time. But we are really relying on you to help us complete this project. If we are unable to come up with the rest of the funds needed, the pigs will return to Craigslist for sale as Christmas ham. We are adopting all his pigs, he is not breeding them anymore and not planning to get anymore pigs. His schedule being busy has bought us much needed time. This campaign would not have been a success if we had stuck to the original timeline, the funds weren't enough. As it is now, we have 2-3 weeks to come up with the $1500 needed.

Please make a donation today. Thank you oinks if you do! Please understand that between Facebook and Myspace and friends spreading the word, we must have reached over 5000 people with this pig plea. Only one percent - 50 people - responded so far with a donation to help. We really need help, please donate. If 100 people in total give, we can change the lives of these pigs. 50 more compassionate people are needed, please be one of them, please.... for the pigs.

Dearest Friends, At this time we are close to reaching the half way point of our $3250 fund raising goal. Thankfully, the man with the pigs was busy this week painting his daughters house and was not able to built the crate to deliver any of the adult pigs. We are very appreciative of this extra time and grateful, and we need it. Donations keep stopping, this cannot happen, we really need them to continue coming in, today there were no donations. The entire family is not with us yet. He will not give us more than 2-3 more weeks, 3 maximum since it may be a pig a week delivered. But he wants to bring 2 next week, mama and auntie. He has agreed to deliver the daddy to the farm vet near him for nueter and tusk trim before bringing him here. I have called the vet twice and am waiting for price quote. Smiley James, The dad will be last to get here for this reason.  Smiley James has been living alone all these years, we want to make it possible for him to live with his family at at last! I have to have the money each week for the next 2-3 weeks.

The first photo below is Rosies Sister, Rolanda, the largest and leader of the siblings. We named her in honor of our dear friend Rolanda of EVOLVE! Campaigns UK myspace.com/evolvecampaigns who has been working non stop to help us save and reunite this family of pigs. Rolanda runs our facebook page, and has also set up an emergency rescue fundraising page for the pigs at facebook as well. All of our graphics and banners are also created by Rolanda. We thought she should have a pig named after her. It is the least we could do to thank Rolanda, we do not believe we would of made it to this half way point without her efforts and we know she will be with us until this campaign is a complete success.
Introducing Rolanda the piggie!

Photobucket

The next two photos below are of Rosies two sisters who are in need of extra loving care. When they arrived they limped to the shelter and have had a hard time walking and standing since. The farmer says one of them got into a fight with the brother the week of the big trip, and she is also a picky eater, preferring to eat bread to the offered barley. There could be several reasons for this problem and we are monitoring it, each day they get a little better, thankfully. We have not named these two yet, for a few reasons...I have been calling one of the farm vets who make house calls all week, since they arrived...twice a day...i spoke to him once and he said he would call back the next day but didnt. I dont want to say any more about that at this time, dont get me started on the topic of working with the island vets. I have a bit of a love hate relationship with them, though i try so hard to keep it in the love. They are human. The other farm vet is not making trips to this side of the island for two weeks. The general opinion is that it is something muscular, pulled muscle or strained, due to the chase, capture, and transport trauma. It may also be their hooves. Understand these pigs have not been eating anything but bread and barley so they are missing the nutrients and protein needed that is found in the fortified pig pellets. This fact may come back to haunt us later in their lives. Each day they walk a little more. I have been taking them out from the others lately so they dont get picked on for being down and not moving, so they can relax and build strength.

This photo is of Rosies little Brother Chris (black pig) and Valentine. Chris is 2 years old and Valentine is only 10 months old, though they are the same size, Chris probably weighs less. Chris is very skinny, and today a 10 inch tapeworm living inside him came out dead, we dewormed them on arrival. This explains why he is so thin. Not only was his diet lacking in vital nutrients, but he had a large tapeworm sharing his meals. He seems to be feeling much better already now that the beast within is dead. Chris was limping too but today is almost over his limp. He loves the pig pellets, he should be growing strong soon now. He is very cute.

Photobucket

Below - Who is in charge? Rosie or Rolanda: Rosie Used to be the runt of the litter and Rolanda was obviously the leader. Now that Rosie it the biggest of the siblings, there is a bit of a power trip going on between these two. At first Rosie really was struggling with it, you could see it, i always worried about the reunion, if she would like it or think oh no not them, being that she was the runt. You could see the runt psychology return in her instantly, she stood frozen for days, with her head bowed not knowing what to do, some sort of inner conflict was going on, she was confused. Rolanda would push her around a little and i was amazed to see the amazing Rosie, quite used to getting her way, take a few hits. Then, the change happened, and Rosie would present herself to Rolanda, almost saying, hit me with you best shot, and she would stand her ground. I think she wanted to see what she was up against. Then came the over the top rosie, telling her sister...i am bigger and stronger than you now, things have changed a little, you can no longer push me around. They seem to of worked out there situation and i am sure they will be friends and true sisters soon.

Photobucket

Up to now, Rosie is still sleeping with Valentine and the four sibling were sleeping together all cuddled up, and walter and francis were sleeping side by side. This evening when i went and checked in with a flashlight, i notived rosie and valentine together of course, and the two little injured sisters together. Walter was sleeping alone, enjoying the space, and Uncle Francis had two little friends, Chris and Rolanda sleeping over with him. I am very happy they are all getting along and look forward to being able to reunite the mama with her children and the father, who has been living alone, can in time be with his family too. But we need your help.

Please Make A Donation Today. $1750 still needed for this rescue to be a complete success, at this point i could do it for $1000 more, but i would be skipping steps in the fencing and post dept that i dont want to skip. We have completed phase one of a three phase plan for this project.

Incoming Baby Boy Pigs Needing Home: Unrelated to Rosie and the Family

The little fellow reminded me so much of the panda piggie sibling who when we enquired about sadly learned that he died of unknown causes. (there is another sibling in rosies family, one who was sold before Rosie was (we got rosie from the person who bought her and didnt realize she was such a handful to care for) We have put the word out that if ever they dont want her, we would like to reunite her with her family, i believe she is living alone at this time, but not sure, will find out more) When we saw this photo, we thought of the poor panda piggie. The two little piggies are siblings. The girl who has them is moving and cant keep them, she got them from her neighbor who has gotten rid of all his pigs...

Urgent Plea from Love The Animals

by Adele on November 12, 2009

rosiefamily

Marasia at Love the Animals is making a plea for help: “It is with a broken heart and loss of words that I write this, Rosie’s pig family is for sale…for ‘meat’”
“This campaign is going to be perhaps our biggest challenge to date, with the financial crisis and lack of financial support it is causing. Problem is, the animals are in need now more than ever. As I write this, I am already tearing up, to see their innocent faces, they don’t know what lies ahead, the horror of a backyard slaughter.
I have so long wanted to help these pigs and reunite Rosie with her family – I tried once before but was not able to. It is now or never. If I lose these ones, a little bit of my heart will die with them. Rosie is an extraordinary pig, just amazing. I am assuming her family is too.
Please donate, anything will help, just give something…please. I cannot do this without the financial help of compassionate people”

Love The Animals: Rosies Family Reunion

by Adele on November 16, 2009

rosiethankyou

Wonderful news:
Rosie the Pig’s siblings arrived – they have been saved from slaughter (continued from: Love the Animals Urgent Plea)

Thank you for all your support! We are so happy, thrilled, amazed, and appreciative to announce that Rosie’s four siblings have joined the Love The Animals family and been reunited with their long lost sister Rosie today. Oinks! They have been through a massive ordeal and will now need lots of extra love and attention to get them settled and into peak health.

The little ones are safe, so now please let’s secure the safety of the grown-ups – Mama Pig, Papa Pig and Auntie Pig… then we can truly celebrate a successful joint effort and a family being reunited to live out their natural lives together in safety and sanctuary… as they deserve

rosie few days

If you can possibly help please ChipIn here, no amount is too small.
Thank you.

Be a Super Hero for the Pigs: Save Rosie’s Mom, Dad and Auntie!

by Adele on November 17, 2009

superherorosiepig

Update from Marasia at LOVE THE ANIMALS
Donations have slowed right down, which is a big worry as we only have limited time for this appeal. Please help!
We raised about $1000 in the first week, thanks goodness, it allowed us to rescue Rosie’s siblings, and have some $ in the fund. But we need to raise $1000 this week and $1000 next week to be able to complete this campaign. Please give something, any amount helps. Thank you so much.
Basically, we have been given this week and next week to raise the funds to save Rosie’s Mom, Dad and Aunt. The man is giving us extra time which we are extremely glad about but we must act fast as there is so much to organize and donations cannot stop coming in. If we do not come up with the necessary funds, it means that the rest of Rosie’s family will be slaughtered and eaten because we failed to raise the amount needed to stop that from happening.
Please click this link to donate:
http://www.chipin.com/contribute/id/0fa0045cc865cfaa
Checks and money orders (and cash) can be sent to: Anthony Marasia / Love The Animals, PO Box 381, Honomu, Hi 96728.
Please make checks out to Anthony Marasia
*Please note that I am not paid for this work, every cent goes to the animals.
Also, there may soon be a vet bill for the siblings if they don’t stop limping and crawling by tomorrow (see below). I am making calls to put in place plans, if this rescue is successful, for Daddy to stop at the vet’s for neutering and a hoof tusk trim, plus vaccinations while he is there. We sincerely hope he will be! Also we urgently need to buy 1-2 rolls of 5 foot strong gauge fencing and fencing posts. We need over $2000 in the next two weeks to make this reunion happen.
We are so happy the siblings are here and safe from slaughter, but this campaign is far from over, far from a success. Please dont sit back and do nothing, please donate today. PLEASE!
The pigs are sooooo cute, but not tame or people friendly, yet. As with most that join us in this way, they see me interact with the others and in time they relax and realize I mean them no harm. Covered in mud they look like dirty little Rosies. I still can’t believe she was the runt, she is so much bigger than them now, they are like mini Rosies!
I saw the brother (who has big expressive eyes, so does his daughter, I am told) eating pig pellets today, so that is great, he is getting the nutrients he really needs. Pics ASAP, with the rain I cant take the camera out and it looks like rain all week! Not the best time for a welcoming party, but what can you do. I separated the siblings from Walter and Francis again. Walter was getting a little pushy. So much is needed still to make all this happen.
Rosie’s sisters looked a little better this afternoon – they were enjoying a mud bath with all this rain. This morning they were crawling on the ground and not able to stand easily, so I called one of our vets. The may just need a hoof trim, maybe a dunk in anti-hoof rot… we will see. They may just be stressed from recent events. Or it could be they are injured. Stay tuned.
Big, big thanks to those who have donated so far to help save the pigs! None of this could have happened without you!

Friday Update Coming Soon:
Mama Pig News, the plan, where we stand $ and more
Please Stay Tuned Please Donate

Update Thursday : Friends friends Friends: Where are YOU?
We Really Need Donations RIGHT AWAY, I only have a week! He has agreed to  hold the pigs for me for a week while i fundraise, he said he would like me to have the pigs, i have been in touch with him all year checking in.  But he also told me, they have to go so he is taking names and numbers of interested callers who want them for holiday meat. If i cant get the money needed in a week, time is out for the pigs, and understand i cant bring them here with no place to put them, i need fence posts and really would LOVE to get a strong roll of 5 foot horse fence. I still have a little fence from Ed the goat and we have lots from Walter and Francis but i dont think it is strong by my standard, it will do if it has to, but i will reinforce it with roofing...If We Could Raise $250
more ASAP (for fence posts and bowls feed,)  I could get the 4 sibling and start a home for them. Then move onto the father and Aunties Needed Funds. At some point though i will need the roll of strong horse fence costing $250. Please Donate today, a good start on day one, but day 2 slowed down to a trickle. This cant happen, only 5 days left...

It is with a broken heart and loss of words, this campaign is going to be perhaps our biggest challenge to date, with the financial crisis and lack of financial support it is causing. Problem is, the animals are in need now more than ever. As i write this, i am already tearing up, to see their innocent faces, they don't know what lies ahead, the horror of a backyard slaughter. To think, i may not be able to help them, and i have so long wanted to help these pigs and reunite Rosie with her family, i tried once before but was not able to. It is now or never. If i loose these ones, a little bit of my heart will die with them. Rosie is an extraordinary pig, just amazing. i am assuming her family is too. Please give, anything will help, just give something...please. I cannot do this without the financial help of compassionate people

Do nothing and .. they die.

Rosie's family (rosie is our fabulous pig friend) is being offered for sale as meat. The thought makes me sad for obvious reasons. I was on the internet and i see pig for sale..waimea...i click...wait...the number looks familiar,
then i see, another pig...same lister, name familiar, pig familiar and i suddenly realize where this is going.. then i see 4 pigs....
and i recognize them as rosies brother and sisters...oh nooooooo

I already feel this campaign is a doomed effort, but i decided i would have to try anyways, i could not live with myself if i didnt try my best to prevent these slaughters. I would love to save them, there are people out there, looking at these pictures, who would love to eat them. Fund raising has been dead lately, no matter how much i ask and ask, nothing but a few donations from the same few people. Not nearly enough to do what needs to be done. Now i see the family is for sale, and i dont know how i am going to make this a success. I am so stretched financially, with donations way down and dying, it is getting a little scarey.

The three sisters and one brother are for sale at $100 each, as huli huli: which is hawaiian for rotisserie. These piggies below will be hung from a stick full body and cooked over an open fire pit for a party, they are being offered as thanksgiving huli huli.

Rosies Daddy is $275,

Rosies Auntie is listed as lau lau,
which is a hawaiian pork thing-food,
$300.

Rosies Mama is alive and well, by the way, no photos because the man selling them didnt want her to be sold as a food product, he said he didnt want someone to eat her. Seems she made her way into his heart, like Rosie...Rosies mama was raised indoors so she is very people friendly. The rest of these pigs, except the auntie, are a little skiddish and unsocialized at this time..There is another, I asked about the one sister showing udders, she had a baby, what became of the baby i asked...he has her...who was the father, brother was the father. Now brother is fixed. I am of course interested in Rosies Mama, she should be able to live our her life with her family, if we can spare her family from the bloody backyard slaughters.

$975 to save the 6 above pigs from slaughter. As usual these costs are only the beginning. We will need posts and fencing, another $1000, Transport, Shelters, Supplies, and Labor $1000. We have set the fundraising goal at $3000. We have never made $3000 in any of our campaigns, as i said, these pigs may be doomed. And here is where my heart will break again, so many times this work breaks it...not only what the industry and people do to the animals, but what the activists don't won't or can't do for them. With 3900 friends if everyone gave $1 just one dollar, i know times are tough, but they cant be that tough? Who doesnt have $1, four quarters? Even if half would give $1, it would pay for the pigs and the fencing shelter. But i have asked again and again for just $2 in the past and maybe only a dozen people ever give anything. really? activists? act-ivists? So...i have my doubts. i can only do so much, i pay for everything for the education center and sanctuary, it is expensive, donations come in and they help with the rescues and sometimes they give me a moment of rest or even carry me to the next step which i am unable to make.  but they dont cover all the costs, no where near it..the feed is so expensive and the bedding and the vetting etc etc...i owe so many people so much...anyways...and i am appreciative of all who donate, they are an inspiration to me and allow this work to go on...and it will go on...

but..another heartbreaker is i was offered $20,000 but it had to go through a non profit, i am not 501c3 yet. Paper work is in, dont know how i am going to pay the fees ($1000). So i turned to a few animal rights and vegan organizations to see if they would umbrella the donation and grant it to me, they all turned me down. And they are helping animals? in one word yes, they could of helped our 108 animal friends. I so need that money to make the move to the 33 acres, without it i cant get there. But no, they couldn't help, they would rather throw a lecture at me, call me names, or copy paste a quote from the peta bible on sanctuaries. Had they of helped, i could of helped these pigs, they were on the list of what to do and who to help with the 20K. but nooooooo.  heartbreakers. they take the money and run, they dont care for any rescued animals, they dont understand. so who gets their organizations money, the 2 leggers, as usual. And the irony is, they feel fine taking it, for their work for the animals, what animals? what work? Fantasy Land.

Lately i am getting very concerned, my mantra if you know me and ask how things are going with the animals i say. donations arent coming in...it is my constant stress...i am seeking other routes of income, but...really..donations should not be as low as they are..and i understand, you are hit up all the time, help this one help that one, how can you help them all, i know...i know, but...this is a tough campaign, because i am not sure it can be done, usually i go into them facing the impossible and knowing there will be people who will help, but lately i have been asking for help and it seems no one is listening. I asked for help with the pig barns and shelter $3000, nothing, i asked for help with the $240 weeks bill, nothing, i asked for help with the rescued highway kitty to go to vet, nothing. I sent out messages maybe 600 or so, when trying to rescue walter and francis, who are with us now of course due to a few friends who donated and the power of my iou's and kind friends. But most of the emails i sent via myspace went unread. Ouch. Really? Unread, i spend hours sending them one by one, wasting my time, asking for help in transporting walter and francis and making homes for them here, and so little help came in. If we didnt adopt them, they would be dead, they would of been put down, no one wanted them.

So i face this one, little pigs for the meat eaters delights, and for the first time...i am feeling already defeated, i can hear the screams of those innocent pigs, i can see the fear and pain in their eyes, i can feel them thinking this shouldnt be happening, why me? murder. HELP ME PREVENT THIS MURDER HOW CAN YOU NOT HELP ???? i will not be sleeping until they are here with me, or they have left the earth. If we cannot band together and help these pigs, i will have to rethink if this is the team i want to be playing for. I will leave the vegans and animal rights activists and head out to the general public and ask them to help me help the animals. I thought you would understand, i hope you can understand. If some activist do not show some action, 3900 friends? I will loose faith in the power of this movement to help animals, with direct action for individual animals in need. Here is a case where animals are in need of animal activists, will you act? Will you give a little cash? Or will they have to die because someone else paid to eat them? I will be in action mode non stop until whatever will happen, happens. We really need many of you to help these pigs, please give what you can afford, we are hoping that many will give a little and a few will give a lot and alot will give somewhere in between.

I cannot do this without your help, please help me help them, Donate Now!

OTHER UPDATES ALONG THE WAY:

Please friends, we need more donations, we can't do this without you! At this point we have $775 in the fund to save Rosie's Family. We are very pleased with this figure, but worried too. Our fundraising goal is set at $3250 to cover the extra outlay: transport costs, shelter fencing costs, labor costs, feed costs and the supplies needed.

Please, please ChipIn to save Rosie's family from slaughter.

We have just 5 days left before our beloved Rosie's family will be slaughtered for a thanksgiving Huli Huli ( Hawaiian for rotisserie) where they will be cooked over an open fire pit :(

A worry is that, what basically happened, was our main core of donors - most of them - stepped up right away and got the funds to $400 the first day. The second and third days a lot of new faces showed up (thank goodness and thank you all so much) with donations that brought the total up to about $775. I am a little worried about what lies ahead though - if the funds freeze it will be a disaster and we only have a little more time... we need more friends to donate... please, no amount is too small. Please see other Blogs For more information, thanks.

Note:
If we do not raise enough money to make this campaign
a success and rescue the pig family from slaughter,
all donations will be returned.

Updated news: The fellow with the pigs has decided he will sell
Rosie's Mama to us too. He did not advertise her with the others that
are being sold as meat for Thanksgiving because he didnt want her to be
eaten. He says she is very special, like Rosie, her special daughter...
she was raised indoors and is very people friendly. Here is a pic of
her from a long time ago - see Rosie (the runt) in the foreground... We
really hope to raise enough funds to be able to take the whole of
Rosie's family and reunite them!

Please ChipIn to help:

Even if you can't donate, please continue to message, bulletin, blog,
or comment your friends and tell them to check out the blog at our

Thank you so much!

Good News Bad News: $750 Raised Yaaa! $2500 needed Oh noooo! And time is running out, we only have a week to raise the needed $2500. We have just learned that Rosies Mama is Now available to us for sale after we have inquired about her several times (she is only for sale to us, the man will not sell her as meat, he loves her too much i think, she sounds as special as little Rosie. We would like to keep Mama Pig with her family of course) The fact that $2500 needs to be raised worries me...with many of our core main donors already checked in, it is going to be up to new faces to give now, and also friends who have given to our efforts in the past. We even have to ask those who already gave, if possible to give again. Over 4000 friends between myspace and facebook, so far 26 people have given, and they have really given, but this will only be possible, to rescue an entire family of pigs, transport, set them up and home them...if many many more of you decide you want to help and make a donation today. Any amount really helps, whether its $5 $10 $15 $20 $40 $50 $100, etc. Please give something. Give these Pigs the right to live their lives together in peace, and to stay together as a family! Oh Please PLEASE Donate, I am starting to fear. If i/we cant raise the funds, they will all die & be eaten for thankgiving. If this happens, all donations will be returned. The man who has the pigs at this time is getting calls, people have made offers. Please Don't Do Nothing, Please Care enought to Give A Donation TODAY! Together we can change their lives, and let them keep their lives. HELP! OINK. Give A little love and give a little $$$.

Please, please ChipIn to save Rosie's family from slaughter.

This campaign is now on day three, and it has been a fast paced roller coaster, up and down emotions, start and stop funding, non stop action on the part of some people involved. To catch everyone up... (Please See Original Blog at the end of this blog. I really was afraid that this campaign was going to go nowhere and that i would have to experience the horror of Rosies Family being sold for slaughter. But, going into day four, i am feeling a little more optimistic, though i must admit, i am not fooling myself, this campaign is no where near a success yet, but it is also no where near a failure, thanks to those of you who have donated.

We need more donations, so please either give again or if you havent given yet, please give something, PLEASE! At this point we are at $775 in the fund to save Rosies Family. I am very pleased with this number, but worried to. Our fundraising goal is set at $3250 (with the addition of Rosies Mom)  to cover transport costs, shelter fencing costs, labor costs, feed costs and supplies needed.

*side note: please consider making a monthly donation to love the animals is possible. At this point, with four pigs, we go through a 25 pound bag of mini pig feed in about five days. The mini pig feed is the most expensive feed we have to buy. Hen food, rabbit food, goat food etc is about $20 for 50 pounds, mini pig is $20 for 50 pounds. With our pig family increasing from 4 to 12 potentially, that is going to mean three times the feed bill, not to mention the timothy hay the pigs eat as a mid day snack. $20 a half bale, i buy about once a week but everyone eats that, rabbits guinea pigs goats etc. Anyways, please dont forget us after the rescue is over, if we are able to save the pigs from slaughter, we will need help is giving them a happy life. Even ig its just a couple of bucks a month, it really helps. I have to secure the feed fund, at this point i am spending a little over $100 a week, but that is going to increase.

A worry of mine is this, what basically happened was our main core of donors, most of them, stepped up right away and got the funds to $400 the first day. The second and third days a lot of new faces showed up (thank goodness and thank you all_) with donations that brought the total up to about $775. I am a little worried about what lies ahead, i cant have the funds freeze, that have to increase, we only have a little more time...we need more friends to donate and fast. We are sending out about 150 comments a day requesting donations to rescue Rosies Family. Tomorrow i plan to mass message, sorry if you get the message a few times, its not my fault, the mass messaging is flawed, it repeats people, and i will message online people too. Of course we will continue the ongoing status reports, blogs, bulletins, etc and urge our friends to do the same. A one time bulletin is great and we appreciate it, but we all know how bulletins get buried, so if you could at least copy the banner code for the pigs at our profile and maybe copy the chip in link below it too, and send it out to your friends, either as a message, bulletin, blog, or comment and tell them to check out the blog at our profile myspace.com/respectlife for more information that would be a great big help. Even if you pick and choose friends who you think may help, that would be appreciated.

Good News. The fellow with the pigs has decided he will sell the mama pig to us. He did not advertise her with the others that are being sold as meat for thanksgiving because he didnt want her to be eaten. He says she is very special, Like Rosie, her special daughter...she was raised indoors and is very people friendly. He was a little reluctant to sell her, but when he emailed me that he was trying to send a photo of her, i knew...she would-could be ours. He said since we are trying to buy the whole family, he would sell her to us for $250, but he said...he wanted a lot more for that pig. Worth her weight in gold? We will post a pic of her when we get it? Here is the one that i saw a long time ago at the feed store that started this entire effort: I recognized Rosie (the runt) from the photo and called...

Photobucket

(p.s One other was sold beside Rosie, the panda faced one facing the camera, i am going to find out who has her, in the event they want to rehome her someday, she can rejoin her family and join the love the animals family)

Due to the urgency of this campaign, we have to start preparing the area for the welcome of possibly 7 new pigs. We began a little shifting today, Francis and Walter are now living together, they are doing pretty good with that. Saturday we start splitting Rosies and Vals Pen and expanding the roofing in two directions and the fencing to. But, to finish this part of the project we really need to buy galvanized t posts to hold up the fencing. They run about $10 each. We will probably need at least 25 of them, but more would be better, and...i would really LOVE to buy the stongest fence available which runs about $250 a roll. So just for fence and posts, $500. Plus there is labor cost, my one worker, Philipe the engineer of all things is my go to guy. His rate is about a quarter of any of the fencing companies for my projects and he is amazing and has built all the shelters, fences, etc. He also is responsible for taking apart the walter and francis' barns and structures at that location and executing the plan to get them delivered to the 33 acre property for when we move there.  He is an amazing worker and we are so happy to have him on board, and he is very gentle with the animals, and a big help. Alot of work he does for nothing, but the heavy labor and hard work, he lets me write an iou for. For 2009, i owe him $3200+ and counting. Yikes. But without him, none of the animals would have a safe home, believe me, the building department is not my department. I would not feel comfortable having any of the animals living under or in anything i built, believe me, i know from experience, i have tried...it all collapses. Luckily no one was ever hurt, but i look and just think, not my department. Once again he is on the iou for this project.  He puts in 10 hour days, and i pester him all day everyday, lets do this, lets do that, this needs done, that needs done, a barn on the other side, pick up rooster, pick up chinchillas. this needs fixed, that need expanded, lets build this, can you weedwhack.  he just looks at me and laughs...with love...everyday asking, whats new. everyday, something new. i love that guy. ok tonight i woke him up and forced the plan for sat out of him, he wasnt as loving as usual with my 10,000 concerns,  but....he was sleeping so i forgive him. He is my neighbor, poor guy. He asked if i wanted help when i had to move Rosie out of the house way back when, he has been helping since then., in many ways. He has great ideas, and supports this vision, and when i am exhausted from too many sleepless nights, he keeps the ball bouncing, and when there have been times i felt like i couldn't do it anymore and wanted to quite, he reminded my why i had to keep doing what i do...the animals need a place to go. Here is Philipe on a day when i asked him to clear a patch of jungle grass for me, well actually this was to be the original place Rosies Family went the first time i tried to rescue them, remember adopt a pig? the funding wasnt enough to buy them, and the location fell through..so i just bought valentine for a friend for Rosie instead, and had him fixed, until i could find a way and place to get her family to us. That time is now, it is now or never.

Let me take a moment to thank our dear friend Rolanda:

Rolanda has been creating banners, bulletining, blogging, messaging, emailing, commenting, donating, promoting, facebooking, networking and more for days now in an attempt to get the needed funds. Rolanda is quite a special friend, a gem, a rarity, and we are so grateful she has given her heart, time, efforts, and funds to this campaign and all of our campaigns. Rolanda is so dependable and encouraging that i know i can turn to her with any request and trust she will make it happen in ways that even surprise me. I met Rolanda on myspace when i saw a photo as her default with a little monkey that looked like britches, but he was wearing a sweater.

I messaged her and asked,is that... britches? she said yes it is, i responded, britches should have a myspace, and she created that amazing profile for him and other victims of vivisection seemingly overnight www.myspace.com/britches1985 When i saw her work, and most of you know the britches profile, I was so amazed and impressed and pleased to of met Rolanda and we have kept contact since and developed the best of internet friendships for the animals. Rolanda worked on the book From Dusk til Dawn and is a director of Evolve campaigns uk

www.myspace.com/evolvecampaigns

Our Love The Animals profile was beautified by her, along with a few of our other profiles such as:
www.myspace.com/liberatelolita

www.myspace.com/totalliberationcult

Our facebook and twitter pages were created by Rolanda

And our beautiful banner squares are also her doing. Thank You Rolanda, you are appreciated more and more everyday, much more than i can ever say.  Thank you so much.  www.myspace.com/veganrolanda

Rolanda also contacted her Friend  Delly Doolittle http://www.myspace.com/dellydoolittle and asked her if she could help the piggies in some way. Delly Doolittle, with her many compassionate animal loving friends, posted bulletins on all her myspace pages for the piggies and at her facebook page, and even was so kind as to publish the pigs plea in LifeScape Magazine: http://www.lifescapemag.com/urgent-plea-from-love-the-animals/
Thank You Delly for being there for Rosie and her family, as you said...they are our family too.
Thank you for sharing and shining your light, for the animals.

Marasia at Love the Animals is making a plea for
help: “It is with a broken heart and loss of words that I write this,
Rosie’s pig family is for sale…for ‘meat’”

“This campaign is going to be perhaps our biggest challenge to date,
with the financial crisis and lack of financial support it is causing.
Problem is, the animals are in need now more than ever. As I write
this, I am already tearing up, to see their innocent faces, they don’t
know what lies ahead, the horror of a backyard slaughter.

I have so long wanted to help these pigs and reunite Rosie with her
family – I tried once before but was not able to. It is now or never.
If I lose these ones, a little bit of my heart will die with them.
Rosie is an extraordinary pig, just amazing. I am assuming her family
is too.

Please donate, anything will help, just give something…please. I
cannot do this without the financial help of compassionate people”
