Hidee Ho, Folks!

Back in January, I went into the studio and recorded a remake of a song called "For the Movies" by metal-band Buckcherry.

It was my first time back in the studio in awhile and my first time recording with Tony Alany at the production wheel.  Tony's been a long time friend-in-music, so it was fun to get to work with him as Producer/Engineer.

He brough-in gems of musicians & fellows that made "For the Movies" our very own sparkley version!
Brian Archer - Drums
Thumbs - Bass
Mark Williams - Guitar
---- Everyone made this song shimmer and shine!

The song is featured on "Lit Up: A Millenium Tribute to Buckcherry" which debuts today!  You can get it online at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com

"For the Movies" is also posted to my MySpace page for your listening enjoyment on this Tuesday morning.

ENJOY!

Greetings!

Today feels like a Friday.  But.  It is not.  And it's also sorta gloomy out.  And I'm quite exhausted.

So to add some sunshine to the day,I wanted to send this article about independent movie "Two Fireflies" which features music from my EP "a little mint."

Filming & post-production wrapped recently on "Two Fireflies" and it's been making its way to film festivals.  Just recently, it was accepted into the Arizona International Film Festival.  Click here to read about it!

Happy Valentine's Day!!
It's such a Hallmark holiday but I'm a sucker for it every year!  Any opp to let folks know how much they mean to me, I am all for.  Except this year, the dayjob has sucked all of the energy out of me & I find myself with a bag of Valentine's Cards I never sent to the peeps (they were so awesome they actually had the word "pee" in them - haha) and without a plan of how to spoil the husband today.  And I am a total planner, so obviously I'm a little off these days.  Eeee!!  I hope my loved ones have magnifying glasses to make a Hallmark memory out of my small measly attempts.
Which brings me to my next love: Music.  Before I met my husband, someone actually told me the reason I wasn't married was because I was married to my music: Mr & Mrs Music.  Wrong, people!  Very wrong!
The past couple of years have landed me on the sideline bench, so to speak.  A little burn-out, some life transitions & personal goals, and some big changes.  But I'm happy 2009 has allowed me some musical opportunities already...and it's only February!
I've always had this hidden dream to sing in a cover band (I wanted to name it Dolly Llama).  And I grew up on a lot of honkytonk music.  So, in January I auditioned for a honkytonk band - my perfect dreamy mix. (Here is where people either have said "COOL!" or "WHY????" haha)   I looooooooved learning all of the songs ~ it felt like stepping back in time and came so naturally.  Unfortunately, the situation wasn't a fit for me: I'd somehow found a band that had no regard for witty bantor or Spinal Tap references.  Obviously, not for me.
But wait there's more!

I have also been in the studio recording a sweet'n'flirty, rockin'but'girlie cover of "For the Movies" that will be featured on a forthcoming Buckcherry tribute album.  It has been a blast being back in the studio!  I'm recording with some longtime friends-in-music which has made this such an easy re-entrance back into the recording routine.  I swear my first day in there, it was like I had stepped into a long forgotten other country... A wonderful return!

I'll post the song once it's finished and let you all know how you can get your hands on a copy.
So that is all for an update here!  I hope you all have a wonderful day: showing love, feeling loved, and having eyes to see love around you, in all shapes & forms!
Have a Love-ly Day!

Hidee Ho, Everyone!!

Merry Holidays and Happy New Year!!

I've been quite out of touch during this crazy crazy year!  I'm sorta bummed to see 2008 go - it was such a rad year!  I got married on May 23rd (to quite an amazing man, I must say) - so the leading up to, day of, and newlywed time has made the year quite fun and quite the whirlwind.

My husband & I have totally enjoyed our first Christmas being married.  I LOVE Christmas in the biggest way!  Like in a probably unhealthy way ~ I had a dream one night, that after shaving my legs, tinsel grew back!  Umm, yeah....I love Christmas a little too much!

It was so much fun decorating "our home", making Christmas mix CDs (ala Over the Rhine, Mindy Smith, Rosie Thomas, Sufjan Stevens, Darlene Love, Jars of Clay, Aimee Mann Xmas songs) and trying new things as we start our Christmas traditions.

We got to spend a week in Colorado for Christmas with family.  We did a lot of hiking this time and it was therapeutic and exhilirating to be surrounded by so much beauty of the mountains, actual snow (in DC it gets cold for no good reason because we hardly get the white stuff anymore), the laid back pace of life out there, and family!  I also got to visit with some dear girl friends from college and meet their new babies & hubby!  It was truly a wonderful Christmas!

On a downer note, I also got to experience what a Colorado Emergency Room is like.  Tthankfully it was nothing serious but DC has a lot to learn about wait times in the ER.  I was in/out in 2 hours, rather than the 8 or 9 that is typical here in DC.

But in all the flurries of change (and marital bliss) this year, I am looking forward to 2009.  The past few years have been quite transitional for me.  Years of  planning, changes, challenges, preparation, etc. --- so it's nice to be in a place where we can just "be" without having to "do", if that makes any sense.  Winona Ryder used the term "marinate" once and that has stuck with me...just marinating in life.  Enjoying where you are and relishing the moments.  I love that imagery...except I'm not a piece of meat, but you know what I mean...   ;)  But such is the season of life for me these days: really savoring life.

2009 will also include some musical things that are up my sleeves.  I'll go into more detail at a later time about that...but after a few years of being on the sidelines (as it has felt), I'm looking forward to singing more in the new year.

At this time of year every magazine, TV Show & musician likes to post their top favorite album or movie or whatever from the previous year.  True, there have been some amazing albums released this year -- but I thought I would post the music that we had as part of our wedding.  This is the only year I'll be able to do this, so humor me, will ya!?!

We had our friends (a cellist & guitarist) playing the songs at our wedding & our dear friend sang --- added sonic beauty to our special day!

PRELUDE
"Melody of You" by Sixpence None the Richer
"Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles

GROOM & WEDDING PARTY ENTRANCE
"Just Like Heaven" by The Cure

BRIDE'S ENTRANCE
A Celtic-y version of "Here Comes the Bride"
*I'm part Irish.

SAND UNITY
"Everything" by Lifehouse

BRIDE & GROOM'S EXIT
"The Adventure" by Angels & Airwaves

BRIDE & GROOM'S ENTRANCE @ REHEARSAL
"Accidentally In Love" by Counting Crows
* Which reads horribly -- but this song was playing non-stop on the radio the summer we met so everytime I was getting dressed for a date, it was playing & now I always think of that summer when I hear the song.  Also, Counting Crows has a fun place in our history: we were both at the Sixpence/Counting Crows show at Messiah College (in PA - 4 hours away from where we lived) in 2003 before we'd ever even met, and watched the show about 12 feet from the other!  What a small small world!

FIRST DANCE
"Not Fire, Not Ice" by Ben Harper

FATHER DAUGHTER DANCE
"Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder

MOTHER SON DANCE
"What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong

Now....Let me know what songs you had (or want to have) in your wedding -OR- post your top fav's of 2008 (and I'll post mine too) ~ I'd love to hear/see!

we had the best cab ride of all time last night, coming home from a fun little night out.

we get into what seemed like a random cab but little did we know, it was no random cab.  our cab selection would prove to be a moment in destiny.  a moment you've waited for your whole life.  and here we were, in a cab with 2 screens on the dashboar: one dispatcher screen (which is normal) and another screen that said "i guess i'm sorry to see you are leaving" or something weird like that.  i nudged our friend and pointed to it...then...we notice the words start lighting up.  jokingly i said "just like karaoke!" and then the cab driver turns around with a big knowing smile and hands us a microphone.  i was like "WHAT?  FOR REAL??" and he said "yes" and started laughing.

this wasn't just any microphone, or a hair brush to use as a microphone, but a for real amplified mechanism in which we could sing and hear ourselves coming out of the speakers.

my husband, our friend, and i sang a riveting version of a song i barely knew and cannot remember...and then we serenaded our highly amused cab driver with a not-so-beautiful rendition of "Livin on a Prayer".  i know he was entertained b/c at varying high notes, harmony points, etc. he would turn around with a sheer look of horror.  maybe he could see my hair-band fist pump shadowing the back window?

it was completely unreal - and as i thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, i couldn't shake the feeling that one day, we'd be watching MTV or SPIKETV and see a show called "Karaoke Cab Nights" featuring us in our not so audibly pleasant night of glory.

Greetings!

With the wedding behind us, my husband and I are settling into our new life and resurfacing!  I'm sorry I haven't blogged at all.  We have been sooooo exhausted recovering from the nuptual celebrations, jumping back into our dayjobs, and getting me all moved in and settled into his/our house.  No one really warned us that we'd be so exhausted ~ thanks, marriage prep class!  (haha)  I had drafted a blog one evening but then lost it when my laptop lost power.  O well!

So, this is a girly blog!  ...about hairstyles.  :p

I started growing out my hair shortly before I met my husband, for that someday when I'd meet My Prince and get maried ~ I wanted to have long hair at our wedding.  Call it an act of faith, I knew he was out there somewhere!  ;)  So over the past few years, it's been my personal goal to get my hair as long as possible.  And as the wedding drew closer, my patience with long hair was dwindling.  Now, with the wedding behind us, I'm rockin it with short hair again.

I had this style back in 2002 but that darn Rhianna made it all the rage now in 2008.....and I just couldn't resist jumping back in time!

As I'm like 31 hours from becoming a WIFE (aaah!!!  I love the sound of that!! ), I thought I'd take a second to share a proud moment from yesterday.  It will probably only be funny to those of you who have known me since college.

Our adorable niece (18 months) came over with her mom to help me move stuff out of my place and into future-husband's.  I have NOTHING in the house for a baby to play with - but I was delighted to share my 2 llama stuffed animals: Dolly Llama & Molly Llama.

I think the baby was a little disconcerted about the oddness of these toys.  They aren't bears or puppies like her other stuffed animals.  BUT after a little bit, she warmed up and was carting them around.  I said "Can you say Llama?"

And very loudly, she responded "LLAMA!"

I am a proud aunt.
