Current mood:stylishly lo-fi
Category: Music
Copied from today's Hartford Advocate:
"Normally I'm a sucker for packaging, so when the Inclined Plane's limited-run, hand-assembled, blue-Muppet-fur-coated CD arrived in my mailbox, I shivered. Sadly, the music on their disc doesn't live up to their amazing packaging. Their brand of strange indie pop-rock is too unorganized and unpracticed to compel. The whole "I'm indie, so I don't have to learn to actually sing my notes" attitude has worn thin by now; ditto for the "we're a collective, not a band, and our disc was recorded by seven people who all play a dazzling variety of instruments" thing. The recording techniques are stylishly lo-fi, but the downside is that amidst all the fuzz and distant microphones, the vocals sometimes come barreling down the center channel, nuking the previously delicate mix. And dude, that one note they keep hitting on the glockenspiel in "Hail Bop" really adds a whole new level of depth. Or not. Your time and money are better spent on a Pavement or Sonic Youth record." (Dan Barry)
Okay, so maybe "love" isn't the word I was looking for. Still, tough to argue that one's money isn't better spent on a Pavement or Sonic Youth record.

Hi again,
So there are now three finished songs from the forthcoming I Am Pants LP up in the music player (Elbow Job, Paw Meds, and Tempo Pin). Things have been progressing nicely. We have the foundation tracks of The Picture Olympics and Heavy Crayon down and should have them finished in the coming weeks. Other songs we also plan on recording include Crack Team, Killer Roentgens, Swap Meet, Cutters, The Sunshine Chews, Pillow Bombs, She Gives Me the Z's, and Important In the Morning. We're still not sure how it's all going to play out but I'd love to keep I Am Pants at a proper 10 tracks and have a bonus EP for the first 50 copies or something. We're playing The Elevens in Northampton, MA this Friday night, Aug 29th. World's Greatest Dad and The True Jacqueline are also on the bill. We love Northampton and are very much looking forward to playing there once again. Thanks for reading!
Keith

Hello friends,
We have awoken from our slumber and are in the process of making a record called I Am Pants. We had a ton of new material kicking around, so the time was right to buckle down and do a full-length. We'll probably take the best 10 or so songs from the bunch for the LP, and then maybe do something where the first 50 copies get a bonus 5-song EP or something. We are once again doing the recording in Keith's home studio, but with some minor improvements to the setup and a little extra attention to detail this time around. This will be another Popular Wallpaper recording. We'll be pressing more of these than the previous three EPs, though we're not exactly sure how many. This is still very much a DIY effort. We have also decided to eschew the handmade fabric this time around (quite time consuming to make and too many complaints about the fuzz shedding off. Sorry 'bout that. Our intentions were good.). The songs are fab, without a doubt our best writing to date. It's still an indiepop album at heart, but we tip our toes in krautrock, alt.country, and electronica waters along the way. We'll skip all the cliches and just say that we'll post frequent updates as we go and the songs as they're finished. Thanks for reading this.

So yeah, it's a new tune and it's called Afternoon Brains. It's actually quite old, but it's been re-recorded and will likely find its way onto the Nonpareils EP. Enjoy.
