Black Mustang @ The Troubadour December 13th 2008

W/- J-Pan Fan + Gladstone and Lochaber

Doors 8pm $8

Hey Hey,

Well it's been a busy couple of months here at BM HQ. The Good news is, is that BM now have an Album on the streets "Between The Devil & The Deep Blue Sea" and  BM are finally getting some love from radio stations and street press all over.

The Album has caught the ears of the editors at the USA based online CD shop "CD Baby". So much so, that on the 15th of December 2008 (US time) the Album will be featured as CD Baby's Feature Album.  There is also a pretty darn good review on the site. Check it out at www.cdbaby.com/blackmustang2 . You can also review it/ stream it/ or even something old school like Buy it, from this link. It will also be featured in the Editors pick section for 2008. (please remember that this site is in USD$).

In other News BM had a couple of their songs "Little Box" & "The One" feature in an episode of "Californication" last week, pretty raunchy stuff for those of you who didn't catch it : ) Keep your ears out for "Jimmy" and "The One" coming up in a couple of episodes of the US show "Greek" currently running on Fox8.

On the live front, BM has a headline show coming up this Saturday 13th of December @ The Troubadour. It's a last minute deal to help some people out, so would be really good to see you all there for some Christmas cheer.

The Zoo are currently running their "Give Some Back" fundraiser / Online Auction at the moment. This is a very worthy cause and we would love it if you would get behind it. All proceeds go directly to Brisbane youth services. Check out the details at http://www.thezoo.com.au/gsb/ you may very well pick yourself up some mighty fine signed merch or concert tickets.

Anyway that is about it for the time being, we really hope to see you at The Troubadour on Saturday.

Cheers

BM

BLACK MUSTANG, LITTLE VEGAS AND THE FUZZ PARADE, NEW JACK RUBYS, STRATTON

The Zoo : 03.11.08

Another Saturday night at The Zoo and another Saturday night of great local live music, all kicked off with raw rock sounds of Stratton. While the room may still be slightly sparse, the band doesn’t rest and continues to work the few punters around with a gritty version of ‘The Line’.

Up next are hard rockers New Jack Rubys, but instantly their trademark ferocious guitar work and mind-melding vocals are lost in a wall of sound that continually ruins what should be one of the best sets of the night. Guitarist Steve Palmer isn’t able to set the room alight with his sharp vocals but still manages to squeeze out a decent rendition of ‘Eight-Ball’  to help finish off what will surely be a forgettable set for the band.

Little Vegas And The Fuzz Parade, follow up perfectly – from the instant that they waltz onto the stage, the entire room dynamic shifts.  Marching straight into ‘Only Say It Once’ frontwoman Sabrina Lawrie’s vocals shine through the boogie melody before dousing the crowd in a fiery screech. Each member oozes confidence and with a bevy of new tracks at their disposal they fly through the set with some rambunctious rock licks.

The biggest applause of the night is reserved for headliners Black Mustang. Guitarist Dave Starr struts as they go through ‘Waiting For The Girl’ from their self-titled EP, backing it up with new track ‘You & I’.  ‘2 A.M’ continues the assault, before lulling while Steve Foster picks up the acoustic for ‘Take My Hand’. For a local band to have this many crowd favourites is pretty amazing and as soon as the intro to ‘Jimmy’ begins every person starts moving. Each member is shining tonight and a quick cover of the Stones’ classic ‘Satisfaction’ brings on the fist pumping beat of ‘Rebel’, which is tonight bolstered by some live keys work. After a quick breather they return to stage for a short encore, featuring the barnstorming ‘The One’ to close of one hell of a night.

The Zoo - Sat Nov 1

A quick look at tonight’s Zoo bill promises a healthy dose of quality local rock & roll; after a hot Saturday, sparks of electricity are practically visible in the humid air. Arriving at the not-quite-full venue, I regrettably miss most of Stratton’s set but their loud, rocking sounds linger during the intermission as New Jack Ruby’s get ready for their slot. As the first eardrum-shattering power chord roars out, the smoke machine starts pumping out thick clouds of white mist and we’re transported to late ‘60s Detroit. The quartet hammer out a succession of sludgy, psychedelic garage freakouts, lead guitarist Paul (sporting a Frank Zappa-size handlebar) peeling off wah-drenched solos in a throwback to the good ‘ol days.

Following a rock video-accompanied intermission, groovetastic local five-piece Little Vegas & The Fuzz Parade proceed to add some serious sass to the night. Commanding the crowd’s attention with ease, natural born frontwoman Sabrina Lawrie struts and swings onstage, her diminutive stature belying the powerful sounds emanating from her lungs. The majority of the band’s ‘60s garage-inspired tunes are real belters and seeing Sabrina and the lads tear through them is a treat.

Launching their debut album Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, headliners Black Mustang rev up and gradually incinerate the venue with their relentless hard rock & roll. Flanked by two singer/guitarists, rotund bassist Dan Charlton cuts a striking figure centre stage as he pummels his instrument along to racing drums. There is a quieter sequence when the Mustangs roll out a guest harmonica player for two BRMC-reminiscent numbers, but soon get back into chunky rifforama. A cover of Satisfaction is an unexpected but pleasant surprise, the too-familiar three-note riff and primal groove sending the punters into overdrive. Closing their main set with the driving, sex-charged live favourite Suzie, the band are quick to respond to the “one more song!” chants with a Zep-esque round-the-kit drum solo and three more killer numbers punctuated by tribal glam-rock beats. Bring on more Mustang shows – and quality earplugs!

NEW BLACK MUSTANG ALBUM

Flying the flag for Brisbane’s new generation of rock’n’roll kids, Black Mustang are set to release their debut LP, “Between the devil and the Deep Blue Sea” and will be heading up & down the east coast of Australia to promote the release starting 1st November 2008 at the Zoo, Brisbane.

Recorded at Brisbane’s BlackBox Studios, engineered & Co Produced by Jeff Lovejoy, “Between the Devil & the deep blue sea” is one of 2008’s most highly anticipated Indie rock releases.

The release follows a run of east coast shows supporting some of Australia’s front runners, British India, Celibate Rifles, the Fumes, 67 Special and the exploders amongst others. Black Mustang took time out in early 2008 to focus on writing and rehearsing tracks for their new album, which see’s the band progress to a darker and more mature sound while maintaining their instinctive pop sensibilities from their self titled 2007 release.

The recording which garnered devoted fans from all corners of the globe quickly became a buzz release amongst local stations 4ZzZ, FBI, RRR, Nova & Triple J. With tracks off the new album having already been lifted for major worldwide licensing deals throughout Australia & the USA, “Between the Devil & The Deep Blue Sea” is set to accelerate the momentum built from their debut release.

Black Mustang will be touring extensively throughout November & December to promote the release.

Hey there people,

The big adds are slowing down our myspace page so if you could keep them to reasonable size that would be sweet. we don't mind posting them but we prefer user friendly sizes. oh and once the flyer is out of date we remove them also, so don't get offended if they disappear after the fact
