Expect Resistance
346 pages, 5.5" x 8.5" x .79", $15

Expect Resistance is not one but three books, each of which may be read as a complete work unto itself. The first book, printed in standard black ink, continues the inquiry into modern life and its discontents begun in Days of War, Nights of Love. Just as that book included improved versions of texts originally published between 1996 and 1999, this book draws on CrimethInc. material from 2000 to 2004, painstakingly refined and augmented with a great deal of new content. The second book, in red ink, is a composite account, related by three narrators, of the adventures and tribulations that inevitably ensue when people pursuing their dreams enter into conflict with the world as it is.

Together these comprise a third book, an exploration of the complex relationship between ideals and reality. Expect Resistance is a field manual for a field on which all manuals are useless, a meditation on individual transformation and collective resistance in disastrous times, and a masterpiece that raises the bar for radical publishing.

Rolling Thunder #5
106 pages, full size, $10

This issue focuses on different ways of conceptualizing strategy, exploring the ways anarchist efforts can be repressed, assimilated, and neutralized only to reappear in new forms. It opens with a study by David Graeber of the successes and stumbling blocks of direct action movements over the past thirty years, followed by a special report distilling lessons from the recent wave of federal repression known as the Green Scare. Two features give the inside story on anarchist mobilizations overseas via interviews, personal narratives, and 16 pages of full color photos: an examination of the riots following the eviction of Denmark’s beloved social center Ungdomshuset, and a full review of last summer’s G8 protests in Germany. The issue is rounded out by a subject’s analysis of the medical study industry as a case study in modern day precarious labor, a spotlight on anarchist organizing in Modesto, California, and reviews of controversial works by anti-art duo Brener and Schurz. As always, 100% ad-free.

Rolling Thunder #6
106 pages, full size, $10

The theme of Rolling Thunder #6 is experimentation: the processes by which radicals invent and refine new approaches. To this end, it features an evaluation of the model activists have used to target the animal testing corporation HLS, discussing whether it could be effective in other contexts; a photoessay documenting the efforts of Swedish anarchists who, unable to defend a squat, built a social center from the ground up; a consideration of the role proper support plays in cultivating communities of resistance; a report from student strikes and riots in Colombia; and an analysis of the past decade of anarchist organizing in NYC. In addition, the issue includes an investigation of the function of gift shops in maintaining global empire, historical accounts of Bakunin’s daring escape from Sibera and the riots that killed off the hated poll tax in Britain, and lots more. As usual, there are 16 pages of full color, plenty of fun tidbits, and no advertisements.

Image
Rolling Thunder #7
114 pages, full size, $10

In this issue, anarchists are covered coordinating mass mobilizations against the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, provoking major clashes; the global economy collapsed; Greece experienced an anarchist-organized insurrection in response to a police murder; and at the beginning of 2009, Oakland was shaken by similar unrest. The coverage pushes beyond the surface of events to offer insight into the organizing structures and historical background, fleshing out timelines and analyses with personal narratives and cutting-edge cartography. In addition to all this, the issue includes an exploration of the relationship between the punk subculture and the anarchist movement, complemented by interviews with bands and collectives from beyond the white punk ghetto, and ends with a primer on small-town organizing using Winona, Minnesota as a case study. No advertisements; 24 pages in full color.

Image
Rolling Thunder #8
106 pages, full size, $10

Balancing out the previous issue’s focus on breaking news, Rolling Thunder #8 steps back to reflect on the priorities and relationships that can make resistance effective and infectious. The centerpiece of this issue is a critical examination of the strengths and shortcomings of contemporary insurrectionist theory and practice, spanning 24 pages and a wide range of lines of inquiry. Elsewhere herein, one can find a guide to crafting constructive accountability processes, a survey of the past four decades of anarchist activity in Chile, and a report from San Francisco exploring the broader context of anarchist organizing leading up to and following the Oakland riots covered in Rolling Thunder #7. Amidst these is a retrospective by a member of the legendary clandestine anti-prison group Os Cangaceiros, distilling the lessons of years of underground struggle. All this is rounded out by inspiring accounts, entertaining anecdotes, magical realist fiction, and much more. No advertisements; 16 full-color pages.

Posters: Crisis is Business as Usual; Iraq Anti-Enlistment
22"x14", $6 for a set of 6 with the posters listed previously; $2 each

Crisis is Business as Usual: A large 22"x14" two-color poster printed on white book paper, made to be deployed in a variety of environments—appropariate since the "financial crisis" has reached into just about every nook of modern 1st-world life. Everyone is asking "Why?" and "How?", let's put the answers where people can see them with this simple design and huge headline, printed only on one side for easy wheatpasting.

Iraq Anti-Enlistment: A large 22"x14" two-color poster that the creators hoped was to become dated and irrelevant; unfortunately, it is now feared that it will remain timely for years to come. In hopes of shortening those years, a bold design was used and printed only on one side for easy wheatpasting—post them everywhere potential recruits and deserters might see them. A fairly comprehensive list of resources and groups related to conscientious objection, G.I. rights, and anti-recruitment resistance can be found at Objector.org.

Against Separatism: Anarchism & Identity Politics
56 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

One of the more controversial anarchist pamphlets of the 90s, this is a collection of writings in opposition to feminist and queer separatism. Equating gynocentrism and heterophobia with nationalism is an interesting position, and the boys and girls of B.A.D. back it up well, championing individual liberation and an androgynous sexual outlook.

Bound to Struggle: Where Kink and Radical Politics Meet
28 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2

Does radical politics inform how you do kink? Has kink taught you ways to be a better activist or political thinker? Can the non-physical mechanics of kink (notions of consent, etc.) effect the nitty-gritty mechanics of an action bloc or campaign fight? Do conscientious ideas of environmentalism, anti-sexism, racism, able-ism, classism, gender-ism, etc. figure into the negotiating process of your scenes or relationships? How do you talk about power? Where do these ideas meet action and how do they affect our lives? Bound to Struggle: Where Kink and Radical Politics Meet is an anthology 'zine that brings together the words of a diverse group of practitioners of both kink and radical politics, created and edited by Simon Strikeback.

Image
Breaking the Manacles: An Anti-Patriarchy Reader
40 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

This zine focuses mainly on how patriarchy manifests itself (usually unconsciously) within activist circles, primarily from those socialized as men. The articles are mostly centered around debates in anarchist circles that proliferated in the early years of the anti-globalization movement, including works by Dan Spalding, Chris Crass, Traci Harris, and the Rock Bloc Collective.

Common perspectives on ourselves, our world and social change.

Image
Disorientation #1
40 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

This zine is the reflections of a couple of people who wanted to get out of Europe for a while. By boat and train and thumbs (but no planes) they have spent over a year now moving erratically through Asia; in some places they've stayed a longer time, other times they were just passing through. This first issue talks about their experiences early on in the trip, with a focus on Cambodia and Thailand in particular, places where they encountered struggles very different than their own, but were deeply inspired by.

Image

8 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $0.50

A short zine with tips, etiquette, and suggestions about the practice of dumpster diving. Also discusses the issues of privilege and who has access to dumpsters, its effect on class struggle and creating a sustainable movement. It's brief and don't go too in-depth, but has good info.

Image

Image
Said the Pot to the Kettle: Feminist Theory for Anarchist Men
28 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2

With a cute little comic at the beginning explaining why feminism exists, this zine is really well done and manages to be funny and not patronising at all. Some men will appreciate it, some might be offended, but they might be the ones who need it most!

Image
Take Back Your Life: A Wimmin's Guide to Alternative Health Care
34 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2

Originally published by the Profane Existence anarcho-punk collective, this is an excellent practical DIY Guide -- from healing common infections of the vagina and bladder to menstruation, birth control and an understanding of AIDS. Extremely useful.

Image
The Revolution Starts At Home: Confronting Partner Abuse in Activist Communities
111 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, ring-bound, $8

Tackling the touchy subject of partner abuse that occurs within so-called progressive communities is a brave move. It is written from a perspective of radical action, encompassing diversity in ethnicity, sexual and gender orientation, and yes, there are even male voices. An excellent job has been made to address partner violence between men and women, women and women, against transgender people, and even against the disabled. The zine does not take the view that abuse can be pushed aside to be dealt with on another day, after the work of our movements is complete. Dealing with the abuse is part of the movement itself. No movement for justice will ever succeed if justice is not prioritized from within by supporting each other and creating a safe place for all members.

Image
Vitamins, Minerals, and Mental Health

It also describes the function of the vitamins in minerals in the healthy functioning of human bodies.

Image

Image
Feral Revolution: Writings of Feral Faun
32 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.00

Feral Faun was the pen-name of a frequent contributor to anarchist publications in the United States from about 1982 to 1992. His thoughtful, exploratory essays pose many challenges to radicals, urging the reader to delve deeper in their questioning, and provoking many an ideologue in to an impotent outrage. His remarks may be at times flippant and extreme, but they are always offered as catalysts for ongoing discussion, not as last words or condemnations.

Image
Jane Zine: Documents From Chicago's Clandestine Abortion Service 1968-1973
60 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $3.00

Several documents by these fabulous "Jane" women talking about the group's illegal activities: learning how to perform abortions, teaching themselves and others the skill, and ultimately providing abortions (and support) for thousands of women in the Chicago area. Truly impressive work that was equally risky and still relevant to learn about today.

Image
Mad Love
45 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

This zine looks at mental health from one queer's radical perspective. What does it mean to be healthy in a fucked-up society? How do we foster sanity, individually and collectively? How do we create and disseminate Mad Love? Jessica Max Stein addresses the above, and then asks a hell lot more questions.

Image
The Philly Dudes Collective zine: Year One (and a half)
32 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.00

Philadelphia's mens' group to address sexism and assault in the punk scene has created this zine full of discussion items to address problems and situations in your own community. There are reproduce-able flyers with great graphics and icebreaker questions to get your own gears grinding in your head.

While this zine raises more questions than answers, that is perhaps the best way to address this large, scoping issue that affects us all and certainly needs a better microphone lifted to it in every subculture.

Image
Pieces of Self: Anarchy, Gender, and Other Thoughts
44 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

A collection of writings on sexuality, gender and the like from a green anarchist perspective.

Image
Towards the Destruction of Schooling
44 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

Most people don’t like being told what to do. Any institution that aims to structure and regiment a person’s life is, to a certain extent, in conflict with that person. The interesting thing is that that person is not always in willful conflict with the institution. Those who are obedient and fulfill their role as students understandably try to ignore the negative effects their schooling is having on them. But who would honestly deny that these effects are quite visible? Students are taught, through the process of schooling, to be conformist, unimaginative, docile, and a great many other things that are by and large considered virtues in the working world. Stay this way and you may never feel good about yourself, but you will be congratulated by authority figures for the rest of your life.

Big Hands 3
24 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.00

3 is a bunch of Aaron's comics about working overnight in a donut shop. Cresent Donut is a Bloomington, Indiana 24 hour donut shop whose donuts may or may not be vegetarian. Is "Cresent" spelled wrong on purpose or is it a family name? We may never know. Anyway Aaron writes about the drunks and weirdos who frequent his job in the night time, as well as his boss busting him for reading on the clock. It's charming in a non-dismissive way.

Emily Frances 1
16 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $1.00

A whimsical zine by Emily Frances (yes, she named the zine after herself!), it reminds me a lot of Cindy Crabb's zine Doris. In it there are cute little drawings interspersed with personal anecdotes about unemployment, moving, celebrity worship within the punk counterculture, and other assorted musings. Recommended.

Image
Ladders and Hips: An Open Letter to the Boys in My Life
38 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

Kyla!'s open letter to the boys in her life. It's a really honest look at her history with sexual assault, cutting, eating disorders and suicide. It's really personal, and at times painful to read. But there's a lot to identify with inside, like drinking to be loved, and then not being able to justify saying no, and wanting to be seen as person and not just a girlfriend. She says it's the hardest thing she's ever had to write and I believe her.

Like Weeds We Will Grow...
46 pages, b&w, 1/2 size, copied, $2.00

Like Weeds We Will Grow is a zine by Brutus McCrust. It is unknown if there are other issues as it is not numbered but this one features interviews with SEVERED HEAD OF STATE, INSECT WARFARE, GIVE UP ALL HOPE, and THE ASSASSINATORS, as well as various activist notes about the G20 arrestee solidarity campagin, the northern territory intervention, etc.

Again, it's been some time since the last update. I have been feverishly working on the new issue of my zine and it's finally in print! 3 issues down, x more issues to go. Together with that I also present to you a fine selection of the latest zines I'm distributing:

Image
From the Kitchen: Sexism, Anarchism and Men
26 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $2

In what is perhaps a first for Aotearoa Pakeha anarchists, From the Kitchen is devoted to the discussion of anarchist mens' relationship/response to the feminist movement(s) and their own sexist behaviour. Topics include: Me(n) and Pornography; Slugs in the Sandpit -- The Gendered Politics of the Garden; Meat Robots Unite; Some Thoughts on Masculinity, Authoritarianism and Emotional Intelligence; What is to be Done -- Some Reflections on Current Sexism in the Anarchist Movement; amongst others.

Image
The Party's Over: Beyond Politics, Beyond Democracy
40 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

This is a comprehensive guide to the indignities of representative democracy and an introduction to some of the radical alternatives. CrimethInc. operatives have labored over various versions of this text for more than eight years, and are excited to present what is considered to be the definitive edition. Those familiar with earlier versions will be glad to see new sections of text and plenty of new artwork.

Image
Two Seconds Notice 003
38 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $3

After a year (and then some), the third issue of my zine is finally finished! This issue is a little more self-revelatory than the last; in it I discuss and share my fears, neuroses, thoughts about "growing up" within the punk/anarchist framework, anti-psychiatry, gender (in)equality in the DIY-punk scene, how feminism and veg*nism is intertwined for me and how I try to reconcile the conflicts shared between the 2 separate spheres, and an interview with US band 97-SHIKI, etc.

Image
Wasted Indeed: Anarchy and Alcohol
32 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $2

For those who tragically missed out on the final issue of Inside Front some years back, the finest DIY anarcho-punk zine the world has ever seen, this is a small zine version of one of the excellent articles that appeared therein. It's an anarchist polemic not so much against alcohol - although it is that - as for a culture of resistance capable of providing its own seditious intoxication. Highly recommended reading for anarchists who drink, anarchists who don't, and anyone else besides.

Image
Wives' Tales
76 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $3

A nice hefty old-school compilation zine all about vaginal health & wellness. This zine follows a trajectory, starting with the history of gynecological medicine, the importance of midwives & herbalists in society before the American medical association took over, leaving one all fired up to take control of one's body. There are diagrams of female reproductive organs, complete with hymen variations & an actual size photo of a cervix. There is also information on performing a self-exam, lunaception (that is when a person achieves synchronicity with the moon in their fertility patterns, making fertility prediction that much easier), emotional, physical, & political attributes of PMS, holistic cramp cures, herbal treatments for an array of vaginal infections, a recipe for homemade spermicide, herbal emmenagogues (to bring on a period) & abortifacients (to promote abortion), menstrual extraction, clinical abortion info, breast cancer factsheet, & still more! A very useful resource, although all of this information should be augmented with independent study, of course.

Against Prisons
16 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $1

A convincing argument for a world without prisons. It strives to teach criminals to re appropriate their acts, believing people do not want to abandon their lives to social authority. It's an optimistic look considering everyone to be specific individuals with specific needs and wanting to think about their lives.

Dirty Attitude Punk Comix Zine 2
46 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

Comic zine from Switzerland, filled with awesome drawings and comics from a handful of punks.

Image
Giant Steps 1
56 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $2.50

This is Kirke's first issue of Giant Steps, and he uses it as a sounding board for his growing frustration at the commodification of punk, and his place in the process of gentrification. There's also a how-to on making a mop, or homemade marker, an interview with stencil artist Chris Stain, and a comic by Aaron Asshat who does the zine Big Hands.

Pull the Plug on the Feminine Hygiene Industry
20 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $1.50

A short overview and critique of the feminine hygiene industry including its history, social impact, and damage it causes to individuals and the environment.

Against Patriarchy
46 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $2

Specially printed for the Against Patriarchy conference in Eugene, Oregon, this zine tells all like it is. Included are the common misconceptions vs. the real definition of feminism (that's right -- feminists ARE NOT male bashers!), essays about sexual abuse, sexism in so-called 'leftist' movements, a discussion about pornography, "the hardcore patriarchy", and more.

Image
Beginner's Guide to Responsible Sexuality (For Men)
16 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $1

A brief look at a number of important questions facing heterosexual men who don't want to go along with sexist ideas about how to have sexual relationships. Why should women be the only ones thinking about this?

Image
Hunter/Gatherer: CrimethInc Journal of Folklore and Folkwar
24 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $2

In a nutshell: D.I.Y culture + autonomist technology, subversive prehistory + pioneer anachronisms, chaos theory + rhetorical tactics, folk science + martial arts, outrageous sem-antics + an/ti/aesthetics + font fetishism.

Image
Urban Forager: A Guide to Dumpster Liberation and the Freegan Lifestyle
24 pages, 1/2 size, copied, $2

Surprisingly, there isn't another zine that focuses on this subject -- lots of people will go dumpster diving (and train hopping) without appropriate information. Mostly you are lucky, but if you aren't smart you could get sick or arrested! This zine tells you how to go about getting food, what kind of food to look for, what to do with it (recipes! canning! trade!) and the typical shelf life of specific items. A sweet, easily navigatable zine, perfect for the fledgling punk rocker or anarchist! **ONE COPY LEFT**

In case any of you have been wondering, all the books and journals have been sold out, and fast too! And in case any of you have missed those goodies, expect restocks soon (we hope).

Meanwhile, these are what's left:

Fighting for Our Lives
24 pages, newsprint, 7" x 10.75", $0.50

This paper discusses, in simple language, what is anarchist in everyday life, and how those spheres of cooperation can be expanded. It addresses common questions that often deter people from exploring anarchist ideas and approaches, and endeavors to help introduce new terms and possibilities into the public consciousness — as well as to celebrate the times when we've realized those possibilities, for those who have been consciously participating in the anarchist project for years or decades already.

The back contains the essay Forget Terrorism: The Hijacking of Reality.
