Howdy, it's Jason Groth. I kept a pretty detailed tour diary this second half of our Europe romp, and I'm putting it online for the remainder of human history. You can find it here:

Enjoy! Or not! It's up to you!

Hello everyone. The summer tour has begun. Five days until Josephine is released to the world via your favorite (hopefully independent) record stores. You can still pre-order it and get a free digital copy of the It's Made Me Cry 7" that we put out on record store day and that some of us (me) in the band didn't wake up early enough to buy. You can order online here -- http://www.scdistribution.com/cat/scd_catalognew.php?action=set_site_id&site_id=3

Better yet, come get a copy from us directly at one of these shows:
http://www.magnoliaelectricco.com/section/tour
You won't get the digital download, but you will get some live music.

So far so good. Chicago was great to us (thank you, Chicago). Newport, KY? Yep. Pittsburgh, PA? Great. We're in the van on the way to Buffalo, NY, right now, for a show at Mohawk Place tonight.

Also, more of us have fallen into the Twitter trap. Jason Groth (guitar) is @groakus, Mikey Kapinus (keys) is @ikapin.

We'll let you know more than you want via the ether. Hopefully we'll see you soon.

NPR picked "Whip-Poor-Will" from our new record, Josephine, as the song of the day for today, June 4, 2009. Here's the story (and a link to the song buried within it):

Also, here's a review of our show in Barcelona -- poorly translated by Google translate, but you'll get the picture:
Magnolia Electric Co. to perform at the festival, Neil Young was an honor and a tough test. Their sound has been forged steeped in the work of the teacher's proximity canadiensey could overshadow. While playing at a spectator level presto a sun hat, cowboy singer Jason Molina. He was great. Could be a cruel metaphor, but Molina is a pupil that fans should find senior Young. At the end we welcomed more than five minutes and had to do an encore. An encore at seven o'clock in the afternoon!

Well, maybe not really, but just a reminder that at least one of us -- me -- is on Twitter, and while we tour this year you can follow me -- username=groakus. Or @groakus. Haven't quite figured out how to tell people about it yet, so this is my first shot. We are slowly entering the 21st century. Oh, and this is Jason Groth, guitar fella.

When (if) the other dudes come around we'll give you their coordinates, too.

It's been a good tour this May -- thanks for being there. Two more U.S. shows and then Barcelona. And more tour dates will be announced ASAP!

Magnolia will be hitting the road starting May 2nd for a month-long Southwest and West coast trip. Some of it will take place with the Avett Brothers, who we would like to thank for the invitation. For those of you on the East coast and in the Northwest, you will see us soon, just not in May.

Our new record, Josephine, comes out in July. We're all very happy with it. Until then, though, come say hello if we're in your neck of the woods and you can make it to the show.

We're also very excited to be a part of the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona at the end of May. What an amazing lineup and what an honor to be asked to do it.

We'll see you very, very soon -- MEC.

Greetings from the Magnolia camp. Thank you for coming out to see us and for passing on so many great wishes on our last B and BBQ tour. We spent two weeks with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio Studios and made a new record. You know how these things are slow to see the light of day I am sure. Not this time. Other than artwork and having the masters back from Abbey Road we are all ducks in a row! Look for: New Magnolia record, Jason Molina/Will Johnson record in the near future. The Russian recordings are also approved and will be released this year. Take it easy but take it.

Magnolia Electric Company is all together in the same place for the first time in more than a year. We begin rehearsals today for the Bourbon and Barbecue tour which starts next week in Bloomington, IN, goes all the way down to San Antonio, TX, and ends up back in Chicago, IL. We're taking some good friends with us, too. David Vandervelde, a labelmate and friend who toured with us in Europe last year will be along for the first half. Then we'll be joined by Tre Orsi, who did a mini tour with The Coke Dares earlier this year and are good friends (and also the masters of the fish-in-the-chassis-of-the-van-game). Finally, Bottomless Pit, more good friends from Chicago, will be finishing it up with us. We even get to play a one-off in the middle with Alejandro Escovedo. It's going to be awesome and, potentially, hazardous to our health. We'll finish the whole thing up on the Jason Groth's birthday/election eve -- November 3rd -- and then hop into the studio with Steve Albini to make a new record. Come see us up there, if you can. We've got some songs to play for you. Here are the coordinates:

10/21 - Bloomington, IN - Buskirk Chumley w/ The Hollows and Kings Daughters and Sons

10/22 - Louisville, KY - Headliners w/ Kings Daughters and Sons and David Vandervelde

10/23 - Asheville, NC - Grey Eagle w/ David Vandervelde and Wayne Robbins and the Hellsayers
