NEW JERSEY vs CALI (This is FUNNY)
im frome cali
-I cuss a lot.
-I say "for sure" and "right on" and "hella" and I say it often.
-I know what real cheese & avocados taste like.
-I don't get snowdays off because theres only snow in Mammoth, Tahoe and Big Bear.
-Summers are really hot, and winters really cold. That's the way it is.
-I go to the Beach - not "down the shore" (who the fuck says that anyways?).
-I've been to "the city" (if your from California you don't say Frisco....you look stupid) and have eaten fresh clam chowder out of a sourdough bread bowl.
-The drinking age is 21 but everyone starts at 14 (legally 18 if you live close enough to the border).
-My governor can kick ur governors ass.
-I can go out at midnight and wear a t-shirt and shorts.
-I might get looked at funny by locals when I'm on vacation in their state, but when they find out I'm from California I turn into a greek GOD.
-I can get fresh and REAL Mexican food 24 hours a day (GOD bless LA COSTA)
-All the TV shows you "other" states watch get filmed here.
-We have In-N-Out (Arizona and Vegas are lucky we share that with them).
-I'm from California and I love it....
-------------------------------------------------- I'm from new jersey , wuts good

Music is a form of energy. like a wave in the ocean ebbing and flowing or a bolt of electricity spreading out through the air .its organic, its movement, its natural.when an artist creates a piece of music , he's connecting with an energy vibrating at a certain frequency or emotion unique to himself. he then shares that music with others and the people who identify with that frequency or emotion begin to vibrate with him.he begins to attract these people into his being, and they begin to seek him out for delivering that frequency for them like a broadcast from a beacon..he translates there emotions, their fabric, their being into harmony and rythym, a beat. have you ever had a song that has affected you on a deep level or has been with you all throughout your life? Perhaps a song that reminded you of an important moment in your life.this is what I'm speaking of..its a relationship that brings harmony or disharmony to our lives and therefore the world around us. it's a reflection of our society and ourselves the good and the bad, and there are positives and negatives in all of us. that's why music has been with human beings since early man until modern times. Its a form of energy we manifest into the world to translate feelings to one another. rock, jazz, hip hop, gangsta rap, soul some native pounding a drum..it all connects with people who connect with the energy of that specific music and its emotions and experiences, positive and negative . Its encompasses how we choose to experience life. happines, peace, intelligent, love, confident, reflective, optimistic, beautiful. Dark, angry, sorrowful, conflicted.we draw in the emotions in the music we like from the emotional energy we put out into the world.. take jazz for example. the musicians are complex, deep, mature, and intelligent. it tranlates into their music and so they attract followers of the same energy. Some of us might not be into jazz when we are younger. you might be into rock or rap, which can be very rebelious ,loud and non comforming. a reflection of youth and its energy. but as we get older some of us tend to identify with jazz.our frequency has changed.
Music is our universal binary code.it goes directly to our emotional state or energy. Thats why a kid in japan and a kid in africa who dont speak the same language or have similar cultural backgrounds might like the same music.it speaks directly to your frequency..your SOUL..your very being..keep that in mind when listening to your music. it speaks volumes on who you are and clues as to who you might become...
BTW. For anyone interested in what I've been listening too,I've recently rediscovered jazz funk legend Fela Kuti. I've heard him many times over my career as a dj but for some reason he's really speaking to me at this point in my life. His music to me is Optimistic, Soulful, Intelligent, Mature, and Energetic but in a unique way.I like to think of myself as possesing those qualities..well, I strive too anyway.. "water get no enemy" is my pick folks...pete rock sampled the joint for INI for all the diggers out there...but enjoy it for what it is and not just the break..
VR BABY!!

Category: Life
I was in Honolulu djing at a freinds club recently. In my hotel room late one night, I got thirsty and realized that the vending machine was right outside my door. The only thing to drink was tap water, but a root beer was really what I wanted at the moment. The machine didnt have one of those paper money slots so that was out... I started digging for change and soon realized I was short a quarter. It was close to 2 AM and I knew it would be difficult to track down someone at the front desk to help me and honestly, I didnt want to make the trek to the lobby since I was on the other side of the building. I began digging through all my stuff ... my bag, my pants, pockets, the table, floors... all over the place! I was hoping a previous guest had even dropped some change under the bed and housekeeping had missed it. After awhile with some persistence, and basically turning the room inside out, I found an extra quarter deep in the crusty crevices of my back pack! Feeling like I just accomplished the impossible, I went out to the machine and put the change in. As I put in the last quarter I found, the machine didn't take it! Frustrated, I slammed the quarter into the machine's coin slot atleast 10 times and repeatedly pressed the root beer button (knowing full well that wouldnt work). I was furious! To top that off, the vending machine would not give me back the rest of the change I put it! The coin return was damaged!! I looked closely at the quarter and it was all beat up and scratched disabling the vending machine from reading it correctly.I was thirsty and completely frustrated at this point. The only way I was gonna get my soda and the value for my now "kidnapped" change was to complete the transaction and I needed a new quarter to do so..If I walked away, someone else could come along wit a shiny new quarter, pop it in the machine and basically get a soda of their choice for a quarter!..The thought of that disturbed me deeply.. I felt like George Costanza in an episode of Seinfeld!! The whole debacle consumed a good 20 minutes of my life.I went back into the room cursing and mumbling under my breath, letting the negativity and bitterness take hold.I began throwing pillows and small items like a pen for example(I'm a dj not a rockstar, so I dont do the glueing the furniture to the ceiling thing). I was ready to give up standing there in my room. But in the back of my mind, I thought, there has to be a way. I even considered knocking on all the other rooms to exchange my faulty quarter for a good one.which after more thought I realized I would probably get punched in the face for waking people up in the wee hours of the morning. But I kept my wheels turning... As I stood in the middle of my hotel room, contemplating my next move ,I glanced down and under a chair in plain sight was a shiny brand new quarter. I turned that room inside out but for some reason this quarter escaped me until that exact moment...that moment when I needed it the most. there was no way I could have missed that quarter earlier..but somehow it magically appeared as if I dreamed it into existence... Ecstatic,I picked that shiny quarter up and had my drink.....
The morale: Sometimes you work hard for the things you want . Doing everything you possibly can to reach your goal or your dream. And just when you think you have all the pieces and have done everything you can..you realize you still have awhile to go or one more obstacle to deal with. And just when things are its bleakest.. The universe delivers in glorious fashion......live in flow with life.. When you put your energy towards something, I believe you eventually push through.. Don't let the challenges of life discourage you from your dreams..perseverance and passion are the keys to success! As I look back at certain events in my life, I see this all to be a profound truth. Moments of darkness and doubt are suddenly enlightened with hope and momentum. and If all of you look close enough at your own lives, you will see it as well (if you dont already). So believe in yourself and your capabilities next time you need to accomplish something. Sometimes that little nagging voice in your head is always talking about how you are not good enough or how its impossible to do something you want to do..you know how those conversations go..."Its not practical",or " What will people think of me?" or "There are no more quarters left in this room!".Be mindful of how you speak to yourself. When parents encourage their children, they usually tell them that they can do anything they want in this world. As adults, sometimes we forget that extremely powerful belief. Whether we have been discouraged by passed failure or let our inner thoughts or even other people's opinions hamper our progress and sway our beliefs to achieve our inner most desires..you will find a way to fight through if you are passionate about your beliefs...remember, your inner conversations and thoughts are your greatest assets... or your worst enemy.so family and friends, live your life to its fullest potential, because we only get one shot. The universe works with you if you want it to There are quarters out there for all of us. you just have to believe you can find them!...
secondary morale: I could have called the front desk to see if anyone would answer and provide change, them make the trip to the lobby. It would have probably taken less time and effort. But I would'nt have learned anything except that I am psychotic enough to do most anything for a root beer at 2 in the morning.I also didnt mention that I had to go up two floors because we didnt have an ice machine on my floor, but I'm assuming you guys got the morale of the story...Please save yourself the frustration if you find yourself in a similar situation..
This has been a lesson about the workings of our universe, communicated by a quarter. I am only a translator..:)

Yo, I cant front..their is just to much goin on in NY. It's off the hinges! The energy, the people, the culture. Like mos def said "I can feel the city breathin". This place I guess will always be in my blood since I grew up here.
But on the other end, you got the SF Bay area...I've lived here for about 7 years now and I can honestly say this is home. Bay area people are freindly and warm. It's just as culturally diverse as NY but leaning toward people from asia. I think thats all about migration patterns of people and geography but thats another story. And It's just a beautiful place...period.nature areas in your backyard, The Golden gate, marin headlands,redwoods,...it's an awe inspiring place. And Cali life is somthin else na mean. It's laid back but with a cool to it..nuthin like it. I think having the privelege of living in both places has helped shape who I am cause you are a product of your surroundings. Both places have taught me many things about myself, my profession and about life.
A tale of two cities y'all....Yo, it's like being in love with two women who are different but the same and with there own unique qualities.I think I need to figure a way to be Bi-coastal..
