Okay,
I can finally say it!....
YES,
I have been tapped by VH-1 and Lionsgate to follow in the footsteps of my pal
James Gunn and serve as “celebrity” director and judge for Season 2 of SCREAM
..QUEENS.......
I
am humbled and thrilled to be a part of the show, and am deeply grateful to
James for recommending me to producers Joke Fincioen and
..Biagio
Messina..
after bowing out to direct his new flick “SUPER”.
....
I
must say I was really looking forward to taking a much needed break after
completing post-production on 2001 MANIACS:FIELD OF SCREAMS, but when the call
came, there was no way I could say no.....
I
never missed an episode of SCREAM ..QUEENS..
Season 1. Finally, a reality show for
horror geeks like me. At first, it was Gunn’s presence which enticed me to tune
in, but it wasn’t long before I was 100% hooked. As a director, I really dug
watching the process unfold. And I gotta be honest- I never thought someone as
talented as first season winner Tanedra Howard would come out of “reality TV”.
....
Lucky
man that I am, I’ve got the amazing Jamie King as my co-star. Loved her in MY
BLOODY VALENTINE 3D. Speaking of which, a starring role in SAW 3D is what awaits
this year’s winner.
So
far, it’s been nothing but a blast working with Joke and Biagio and the writers
coming up with all kinds of sick challenges for the ten contestants. They have
NO IDEA what’s in store for them. Time to separate those who really are serious
about the craft from those who just want to be “famous”.
....
More
than likely, I will be bringing along some cast members from 2001 MANIACS: FIELD
OF SCREAMS as guest stars or celebrity judges . As SCREAM QUEENS 2 airs this
summer on VH 1, it’s looking like a late summer/early fall release for the film,
so folks are just gonna have to wait a little bit longer. But I promise, the way
it’s turned out, it’s gonna be well worth it..
....
We
start shooting this Sunday--- talk about no rest for the wicked. Just last week
I was doing ADR for MANIACS- now it’s off to that Scream Queen House on Haunted
Hill.....
Who
will survive- and what will be left of
them?....
Stay
tuned…......

Tim Sullivan’s teen ghost story DRIFTWOOD will be making its network premiere on NBC Universal’s Chiller network Friday, September 11th at 10 PM.
THE STORY: Riddled with guilt over the loss of his rock star older brother, 16 year old David Forrester (Ricky Ullman) becomes obsessed with death, leading his misguided parents to send him to Driftwood, an "Attitude Adjustment Camp for Troubled Youths" run by the sadistic Captain Doug Kennedy (Diamond Dallas Page) and his brutal young henchman, Yates (Talan Torriero). Once there, David becomes haunted by the spirit of Jonathan (Connor Ross), a former inmate who met a mysterious end; a mystery whose resolution could very well be David's only way out..............
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY: After completing production on the horror comedy 2001 MANIACS, an admittedly over-the-top, decidedly non-PC “Splatstick”, co-writer/director Tim Sullivan found himself disturbed by a post-Columbine trend in America; the proliferation of privately owned and run “Attitude Adjustment Camps” for youths deemed troubled and problematic by their parents. Though some youth, in fact, may require severe response to their crimes and violence (i.e. hardened youth offenders who actually find their way into the government run juvenile prison system), the psychology (and business plan) behind these “Adjustment Camps” is to play upon the fears of wealthy parents unable to relate to their teenager that Little Johnny’s troubling behavior may actually be the budding seeds of the next teen “Columbine Killer”. The horrid part is that the definition of ‘troubling’ could easily be that Junior listens to AFI and HIM, reads FANGORIA magazine, wears black, has piercings in unseen places, and (horror of all horrors) may actually prefer the same sex to the girl next door. Thus, on a regular basis, kids who just don’t click with Mom and Dad are being shipped to attitude adjustment camps all over the USA, where they are brutalized, programmed and in some extreme cases, actually murdered (as recently exemplified by the headline making death of a young boy in such an Attitude Adjustment Camp in Florida). The greatest nightmare of all— If Little Johnny is under the age of 18, he’s got no legal rights whatsoever, and if Mom and Dad sign him over, he’s a prisoner till he turns 18. And so, with 2001 MANIACS and SNOOP DOGG’S HOOD OF HORROR under his belt, Sullivan enlisted writing partner Chris Kobin to tackle another type of horror for his follow-up. A complete flip in vibe from the broad tone of his first two features, DRIFTWOOD is a character driven supernatural thriller that has been described as STAND BY ME meets GHOST STORY. It’s Sullivan’s way of expressing his driving philosophy (as expressed in his first producing effort, the cult classic DETROIT ROCK CITY) that no one should be forced to be what they are not, for if and when that does occur, the real nightmares truly do take shape… Welcome to DRIFTWOOD.
Sullivan is currently editing the follow-up to 2001 MANIACS, (entitled BEVERLY HELLBILLYS), which will have its .... US.... premiere at the American Film Market this November.

Cult film veteran Bill
Moseley (“House of 1,000 Corpses“) has just completed filming
his role as Mayor Buckman in director Tim Sullivan’s latest installment of the
horror/comedy franchise “2001 Maniacs”. The film, titled “2001 Maniacs:Beverly
Hellbillys”, was shot entirely on location in Iowa.
According to Sullivan and
producer Christopher Tuffin, it is as much a wild re-imagining of the preceding
films as a sequel to them. Their intention was to raise the stakes beyond the
ordinary glut of by-the-numbers horror releases to create a smart,
genre-defying feature that pushes every limit to the extreme. Tuffin compares
“Maniacs” to an episode of “South Park” or “The Simpsons” in the sense that
“Maniacs” is nothing less than a carnival house mirror held up to American
culture.
“Over the years I was approached
many times to write and direct a sequel, but I waited until we not only had a
storyline that served as a worthy successor to "2001 Maniacs", but
also the creative freedom to push the envelope open even further in a smart and
funny way”, says Sullivan. “Then on the eve of the election of Barack Obama as
the nation's first African-American president,
I saw the opportunity to once again use the residents of Pleasant Valley as
vehicle to expose the deep rooted prejudices of all segments of our society in
a way that would hopefully make everyone realize the absurdity of their biases,
while also sneaking in a few laughs in at the same time.”
Moseley heads an ensemble cast
that includes Lin Shaye (“Snakes on a Plane”), Nivek Ogre (“Repo! The Genetic
Opera”), Christa Campbell (“Day of the Dead”),
Ahmed Best (“Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”), Trevor Wright (“Shelter”) and
telenovela vixen Andrea Leon (“Hood of Horror”).
The finished film will be
unveiled at this year's American Film Market
in November.

CLICK HERE TO READ SHOCK N ROLL: MY DINNER WITH YORGA
This past weekend on February 21st, Robert Quarry left us. He was 83. He had been ill for some time, with the last year particularly hard with his move to the Actor’s Home. Through it all, the love displayed by his fans was a constant source of comfort to Bob. When the call went out to fandom that Count Yorga was moving into a new crypt and needed both basics and some simple frills, the response was overwhelming. Within a mere two weeks, Bob’s new room at the Actor’s Home was completely furnished with gifts sent by fans and friends from all over the world. The music he loved, the movies that mattered to him, all replaced with brand CD’s and DVD’s. Bob got a chance to read each and every one of the notes and emails that were sent to him, a true testament not just to the caring and kindness of those that make up the horror community, but a striking tribute to the man who inspired this outpouring, Bob Quarry himself. A true giant of the genre, one of the last great icons of fright to grace the crimson screen. I will always cherish my friendship with “Uncle” Bob. I am deeply grateful for the following interview that started it all with Bob in all his candid glory, the subsequent screening of both Yorga films that emerged as a result after dear Frank Darabont saw the interview and ordered 35mm prints to be shown at the American Cinematheque, an amazing event that put Bob back in the spotlight where he deserved to be. I thank all of Bob’s friends, fans and extended family for showing the love, especially Fred Olen Rey and Terrill Langford, who were right by his side to the very end.
Goodnight, Sweet Count. We will never forget you. Like Yorga, you live forever.

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT SHOCK n ROLL ISSUE 7 NOW!
With MY BLOODY VALENTINE kicking ass at the box office and anticipation high for FRIDAY THE 13th, remakes of 80’s splatter classics (and no so classics) continue; like it or not. As someone who has remade an exploitation favorite, (TWO THOUSAND MANIACS!), it’s hard for me to throw rocks while living in a glass house. For the most part, I wish Hollywood would be a bit more original and allow filmmakers to come up with something new. But if remakes are to continue, then I guess those opposed should hate the game, not the player. So when a remake (or sequel to a remake) is announced, then we should be grateful that someone like Rob Zombie is behind the lens, and not some TV commercial director hired by a producer who gives more about the “buck” than the project. I have a lot of love for Rob Zombie. Besides the fact that I consider him among one of my best friends in this industry, I think he is one of the greatest American filmmakers alive today- a modern Scorsese. Every time I talk to Rob I wish I had a tape recorder present. The conversations are always that good. Rob is thoughtful. Passionate. Often pissed off. And always REAL. Which could also describe both his music and his films. At first, I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard about his pending HALLOWEEN sequel. Like most of Rob’s projects at the outset. But in the end, Rob always makes a true believer out of me. Read on and see what I mean.

'Twas the night before Xmas 1985… I made a little 16mm holiday short that planted the dark and twisted seeds that would inevitably yield the harvest of 2001 MANIACS. 23 years later, come holiday time, those who have seen it still ask me about this Yuletide nightmare and those who haven't ask me how they can.
Well, kiddies, courtesy of my buddies Rob G and Mike C, here is an Icons of Fright exclusive from me to you with deep, deep thanks for an amazing year filled with Pleasant Valley maniacs and Driftwood ghosts.
Here it is....
A CHRISTMAS TREAT.

CLICK HERE TO READ THE LAST FAMOUS MONSTER NOW!
5 years old. 1969. New Jersey. I just had "seen the light" (a Creature Features viewing of Bela Lugosi's "Dracula"), but had yet to read the gospel. Then it happened. Barnabas Collins and his "House of Dark Shadows" cronies leering up at me from issue 82 of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND. Bloody, colorful and seducing, it sat amongst a stack of super hero comics and teen idol magazines in the dark corner of a local supermarket named Foodtown. Prophetically appropriate, for FM has been nourishing my soul ever since.
If horror movies are religion, than the God of that religion is Forrest J Ackerman, for it was he who wrote the Bible. Within the pages of that testament, monsters and their makers both old and new were committed to history and given full worship by Forry. His mission was not to editorialize, scoop or blog bash, his was to celebrate. In my then innocent monster kid world devoid of easy access to "celluloid macabre" and DVD extras revealing the tricks behind the magic, there was nothing other than Ackerman and FM keeping the classics alive and fresh. 'Twas "Uncle" Forry time and time again pulling the stake from Dracula, digging up the Mummy, unmasking the Phantom… He did these deeds within FM, and, as all proper religions require a place of worship, every single Saturday in every home he has ever lived in, opening his doors wide and unbiased to anyone from anywhere seeking a sanctuary to touch the gods. He called it The Ackermansion.
At a time when most East coast boys (and girls!) dreamed of going to Disneyland, my West coast conquest was always the Ackermansion. Madly flipping thru the pages of every new FM, I never failed to pause and sigh when it came to photo spreads of Forry in his home, beaming next to Vincent Price and the Metropolis robot, or sharing tea with Karloff and his wife. What truly blew my mind were the amount of photos of young FM readers such as myself to whom Forry would endlessly play host and storyteller in his monster museum. All you had to door, Uncle Forry would tell us, was simply show up and ring his bell! To confirm his guileless, Santa Claus nature, Forry actually published his home address on Glendower Drive as well as his unforgettable personal phone number…. 213-MOONFAN. Decades before the internet and My Space made it possible and common, Forrest J Ackerman was connecting personally with fans and future filmmakers, bridging the gap of dream and reality, serving as conduit and providing six degrees of separation between an International congregation of aficionados and the objects of their affection.
In '82, 18 years of age, I finally gathered the nerve to call 213-MOONFAN. I was in NYU film school chasing my dreams, a young novitiate surrounded by opportunities I never thought possible. I had just met my first horror celebrity, Jonathan Frid (Barnabas Collins himself), at a Dark Shadows convention, and, being it was his visage that graced my first FM, figured to myself, "Why stop there?". And so it was I picked up the phone and dialed my Forry. The voice on the other end was warm and friendly, everything a kindly old Uncle should be. Before I knew it, I had invited myself to California and the Ackermansion. Always one to envision an achievement and let reality catch up with it, I happily announced to anyone who would listen that I was off to Hollywood to hang with Uncle Forry. Luckily for me, my mom worked for the airlines and was able to get me a free stand-by flight to my destination. As the days trickled closer to the date of departure, the notion that what had been a sweet but unlikely childhood wish of mine was actually about to come true nearly short circuited me into cancelling the trip. I had never been on a plane, never been beyond New Jersey or New York- never traveled alone! But this was Forry- and, in a way, every monster I had ever hoped to meet. I gathered my courage, took the plunge, and, in many ways, finally met my maker.
That sacred trip changed my life. There is no doubt in my mind that where I am today is a direct result of growing up Forry. For over 26 years since our first encounter, we have remained friends, surrogate relatives, and now that I live in LA, neighbors. He is part of my life, engrained in my soul- and yet I know I am only one of legions who can honestly say the same...
Never was that more true than during these past few weeks as all of these "nieces and nephews" of Uncle Forry's came together in person, on the web, in thru letters and in emails, to bid farewell to the King.
The word was out that Forry was ready to say goodbye. I honestly believe he was hanging on much longer than he would have liked to, doing so more for us than himself. Those who could gather by his bedside did. I was blessed to have the chance to look into my beloved Forry's eyes, hold his hand, and once more express my love, gratitude, and, as Forry himself put it, "Last Regards".
It was the best death that anyone could have had. No regrets. Nothing unsaid. No unfinished business. And NO DOUBT that Forry passed without knowing his impact on us all. I have never experience anything like it, and do not believe I ever will. It truly was a Living Funeral, a wake where the loved one was actually still there. As sad and melancholy as it was, there was such a sense of love and honor for Forry, and a bond among a group of people, Ackermaniacs, who all clearly realized how their entire life and career was kick started and nurtured by this one singular man. Our stories were all different, and yet all the same. More than one, myself included, commented how Forry was more of a father figure than their own flesh and blood parent. I am so grateful that Forry had the chance to bask in this love, and know firsthand how much he means to us all. We are one, and we truly are the children of Forrest J Ackerman. We truly owe it all to Forry and Famous Monsters. We must keep his legacy alive, and thru Forry, the legacy and roots of our beloved genre. Like Lon Sr and Jr, Bela, Boris, Peter, Vincent and Christopher before him......... FORREST J ACKERMAN SHALL NOT DIE! His is in our hearts, our stories and our memories. And for me, one of the greatest memories is of a very special visit back in 1997 when I was helping to launch the pop culture magazine go figure! Designed to explore all avenues of collecting and collectibles, no man's collection at the time was greater than Forry Ackerman's, making my friend a natural subject matter for the debut issue. Sadly, the resulting article barely saw the light of day, go figure! itself folding after a brief, innocuous run. Here, now, however, is a look back to an era when the Ackermansion still stood tall. For fantasy, horror and Sci-Fi fans who remember, sit back and reminisce. For those who never heard the tale, stand up and take notice. This is your heritage……..
