FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

GOODBYE GIRL FRIDAY SET TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM, RUSTED SKY ON RETONE RECORDS

Okay, fair enough if you're not familiar with the name Dave Sherman, but it is our hope that you will be soon. Aside from playing keyboards for Robbers On High Street, Grand Mal and the Silent League, Dave writes and performs his own sublime stuff under the wistful moniker, Goodbye Girl Friday. Come late October, GGF will release a fine third album, Rusted Sky, on whip smart fledgling outpost, Retone Records, distributed through Fontana.

Originally hailing from the Midwest, Sherman has been at it for a while now, wearing many hats in many situations. Moving to New York City a few years back, Sherman adopted the Goodbye Girl Friday (GGF) name and released the albums, Mr. and Mrs. and Silver or Gold. Both CDs received rave reviews: "GGF is so skilled at piano-driven pop that it's worth popping open a bottle of champagne to celebrate them" (Santa Monica Mirror), "Sherman's songs are pure modern pop masterpieces" (Indie-Music.com), "Sherman's winsome tunes work wonders" (High Bias). Silver or Gold received a DIY spotlight feature in Performing Songwriter Magazine.

After landing a tour with Glenn Tilbrook (lead singer/songwriter from Squeeze), Sherman began writing again; some on his own and some with Bill Whitten from the Brooklyn band Grand Mal. The result is his new album, Rusted Sky, a mix of art pop, '70s AM pop, Philly soul and western drawl. The record is a collection of twelve tunes co-produced by Chris Tarrow (Groovelily), mixed by Will Schillinger (Ian Hunter, Warren Zevon) and mastered by Fred Kevorkian (Rufus Wainwright, Dave Matthews Band). Using his core rhythm section of Dan Grennes (bass) and Andy Sanesi (drums), Sherman also received assistance from Rich Meyer from Hopewell, Val Vigoda from Groovelily, Julia Kent from Antony and the Johnsons, and Bob Hoffnar from Hem.
Goodbye Girl Friday's Rusted Sky will be released on October 23rd, 2007. Look out for it. As always, we'll be callin.

Goodbye Girl Friday Says Hello To Philly

Band plays World Café Live on Friday, August 4, 2006

Ridgefield, NJ --July 11, 2006 --Goodbye Girl Friday will play World Café Live in Philadelphia on Friday, August 4 at 7:00PM, playing songs from their latest release Silver or Gold and debuting tunes from their upcoming CD.

Goodbye Girl Friday is David Sherman, keyboardist, lead vocalist, and songwriter. For the show at World Café Live, he will be joined by Dan Grennes on bass, Glenn Robertson on drums, and Chris Tarrow on pedal steel.  Currently, Goodbye Girl Friday is finishing up a new CD  co-produced by Sherman and Tarrow, engineered by Matt Shane (Rosanne Cash, Shawn Colvin) and mastered by Fred Kevorkian (Ryan Adams, The White Stripes, Dave Matthews Band).

The performance at World Café Live will be a homecoming of sorts for Sherman, whose father was a late night jazz DJ on WHAT in the late 50s and early 60s. Influenced by Philly stars Todd Rundgren and Daryl Hall, among others, Shermans songwriting has won praise from many critics, including All Music Guides Alex Henderson, who calls Silver or Gold a solid effort that shows a strong sense of pop/rock craftsmanship.  Performing Songwriter magazine included Goodbye Girl Friday on their Editors Choice Compilation #12, noting that Shermans memorable melodies were one of his biggest strengths.
