Where
Yesterday walking on Franklin
Towards the comedy theatre
I walk right past his best
friend and his wife
That gorgeous toothy tan
American beauty
They are in running clothes
Their hairlines shiny with
sweat
They are talking to someone sitting
at a sidewalk table
Outside the café
So I shoot by undetected
But after
I cannot think
I have trouble forming
sentences
I want to go back and turn him
by his shoulders
Shake them
And shout at him to tell me
where he is
Terrify him with the power of
my voice
My hands are sweating with it
It is pouring out of me
And I am so close to turning
on my heel
But then the theater lets
people in
My friend stands beside me in
her purple cardigan
And Ben grabs me a water
Cold from the concession stand
My new life overwhelms me
And I just have to let him go
Again.
