I'm updating my blogger blog more often than myspace. Those web cam girls creep me out every time I log on here! markcoolfolksinger.blogspot.com has a link to the podcast of the Mark Cool and the Folk Stars appearance on "THe State of Things" with Frank Stasio on WUNC FM, the recent Durham magazine interview, a pic of Sophie, the singing hound dog from the Cave show with Mandolin Orange and Radar's Clowns of Sedation, a Daisycakes jingle, and a phtoto of the new hand stenciled MCFS tees with a rooster on them.

My birthday is Thursday, June 4, and I'll be celebrating by joining my friend Pete Pawsey at the Lilac Lounge at Weaver St Market, Hillsborough, NC, from 6-8 pm for some music. The merriment will continue at Dain's Place, on 9th St in Durham, NC, where me and some musical friends will play songs starting at 9. If you're in the area, stop down. If you're a musician, join us onstage, bring an instrument if you want.

I blogged my recent Europe tour diary on http://markcoolfolksinger.blogspot.com/also on my site, markcool.org. It was a great trip, 10 shows in 10 nights, plus two radio shows and an impromptu busking session in Glasgow, with a fiddler from Maine! The new cd is going well so far, peope are digging "Pie". I only regret that I didn't think to make the jacket a scratch and sniff!

The Cave show was great. One of the Watercallers' final shows, sniff :( They delivered their usual high quality set with great songs and great energy! i can singalong with almost all of their tunes at this point.
Peter Pawsey and Radar's Clowns of Sedation played a really fun set of bluesy, gospelly americana. Pete's got great presence up front.
I had alot of fun playing the tunes from "pie" with the studio band; Greenie Marley on bass, David Shore on drums, and Art Champagne playing his rack o' guitars and pedals, creating excellent accompaniment. We sang happy b-day to Greenie, who celebrated his 60th, and he blew out the candles on a cheery pie. I gave away an apple pie to Ina, one of the party guests, and Bart from the Water Callers won the free cd. (It wasn't rigged , really.) Actually, he said that he hd a premonition before his name was drawn ath he would win! Matt was awesome as bartender and sound man. He's a fellow musician, so he gets it, and took good care of the bands and guests
I'm gearing up for a European visit in May, and negotiating with a new manager and booking agent, which I'm very excited about!

This Thursday's show at the Cave, Chapel Hill promises to be a great one! The Water Callers www.myspace.com/thewatercallers are great, excellent songwriting, twin acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies, and witty repartee between songs, one of my favorite durham acts!Radar's Clowns of Sedation feature Pete Pawsey's gospel tinged impassioned folk songs with a great mix of banjar, harmonica and guitar. Last time i saw pete with the band, he had a stand up bassist and drummer adding to the flavor. http://www.myspace.com/radarsclownsofsedationI'll be joined by Carrboro's own Greenie Marey on the old doghouse bass, Art Champagne on lead guitars, (yes he'll play a few, in differant tunings, and with some slide), and David Shore keeping things steady on the snare and hi-hat. www.markcool.org/id74.html If you're a fan of folk/americana/ alt-country music, you'll want to make sure you catch this one!

great mini tour here in NC this past week, i got to ply a set at the lilac lounge in hillsborough, with greenie marley on the old doghouse bass, and art champagne getting all kinds of cool sounds out of a couple of guitars and a bunch of pedals. thanks to pete pawsey for hosting, and contributing harp on 'the ballad of mike and mary'! friday i played a solo set at the flatiron in greensboro, thanks to all my new friends there for your hospitality. stellar sets by amelia's mechanics and mystk dog followed, with stephen corbett of the radials guesting on a tune with the dogs. ms. wallace was one of the best bartenders i can remember being served by, and she even bought a cd! the mini tour wrapped up with a house concert in kevin's living room in raleigh, with greenie on bass again, and jason beverly on mandolin. a spontaneous version of 'twist and shout' kicked off by my 10 year old son, had everyone singing, especially the "aw-aw-awwww..." part! a big folk/americana show in chapel hill is next, on 4/9, where i'll have 'pie' cd's in their shiny spankin' new glory for sale in advance of the 'official' release. i'll be joined by greenie and art and david shore on drums, and special guests the water callers and radar's clowns of sedation, featuring pete pawsey.

i'm just posting a few tunes from the new cd, 'pie' here and on reverbnation. we mastered at at the kitchen, in carrborro on friday, and it's sounding really good! i put up the title track, and instrumental that i wrote in the style of libba cotten and etta baker and the like, 'november rain' which features some great fiddle work by local fiddler scott laird, and 'drivin', an angsty folk song about being stretched thin as runny nylons, with cool slide guitar by art champagne infusing the track with a bluesy plaintiveness. yes, i may have made that word up. i'm playing a solo slot at dain's on st patty's day, 8 pm. also on the bill are bob funck and a few artists tba. acoustic mostly i am told. stop by for a green beer! mc
