April 15th Sac State Day of Silence

What are you going to do to end the Silence?

The National Day of
Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and
harassment in schools. Each year the event has grown, now with hundreds
of thousands of students coming together to encourage schools and
classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior.

To
honor this, the PRIDE Center is asking Sacramento State Students, Staff
and Faculty to Wear Red in a show of support for those who have been
victimized!

We will be breaking the silence with a POTLUCK during the QSA Meeting at 6pm! Bring a dish and join us!

April 27th Gay Power? Historical and Modern Perspectives on the Gay Rights Movement

The PRIDE Center, in collaboration with the Women’s Resource Center, is
proud to present a lecture concerning the gay rights movement. This
event is free and is open to all students, staff, faculty, and the
public.

In the wake of Proposition 8, many people are
wondering what the future of the gay rights movement will be. In this
lecture, Professor DiSarro places Proposition 8 and the nationwide
battle over same-sex marriage into historical context. By examining the
history of the gay rights movement, the present state of gay rights in
the United States, and the prospects for progress under the Obama
administration, Professor Di Sarro provides us with a past, present, and
future context for viewing the outcome of Proposition 8.

Gay Bash PRIDE Center 4/6/09 6:00pm

Our first ever PRIDE week kick off mixer! We have designed
this event to allow Pride Week co-sponsoring organizations to mix and mingle,
creating opportunities to network. In addition, it will provide an opportunity
for queer students to meet other supportive organizations on campus. To bridge
gaps between groups we must all work together to lay the necessary foundations.
Refreshments will be served.

8th Annual Gender Bender Hinde Auditorium
4/7/09 6:00pm

So often we are bound by the social gender constructions
which pervade our society. As such the Gender Bender, formally known as the
Gender Bending Extravaganza, was created to allow Sacramento State Students the
opportunity to transgress from normative gender roles and explore other parts
of their identities. This event features dance performances, music, spoken
word, poetry, monologues, and skits.

Comedian Bridget McManus Hinde Auditorium 4/8/09 6:00pm

We are excited to bring Bridget McManus to Sacramento State
University. She is one of today’s foremost Lesbian Comedians and is most famous
for her Brunch with Bridget V-log on AfterEllen.com. McManus has performed at
the Hollywood Improv, The Comedy Store, and the Ice House. She was also
featured on the cover of Curve Magazine’s Comedy issue in 2008. Special Guest:

Good Vibrations Sex Workshop 4/9/09 6:00pm

We want you know how to play it safe! Good Vibrations, a
“diverse, woman-focused retailer providing access to sex-positive products and
accurate sex information through our clean and comfortable stores, catalog, and
web site in order to enhance our customers' sex lives and to promote healthy
attitudes about sex," will conduct an interactive workshop in order to
educate our community about pleasure physiology and sex toys as well as give a
quick run-down of Gender 101. This event is for those 18 or over (ID’s will be
checked at the door).

Good Vibes

Kings of Drag 4/10/09 6:00pm

To cap off an exciting week, the Sacramento Kings of Drag
troupe will perform their annual Pride Week show. The Kings will entertain you
with one of the most dynamic performances you will ever see. It asks you to
suspend normative gender roles and consider larger issues at hand. Past
performances have dealt with Queer issues such as Gay Marriage, Don’t Ask,
Don’t Tell, and victimization.
