'Silent Fields' the wonderful Swedish resident Martin Herterich releases his stunning debut on kesh and is available as a boomkat digital exclusive: OUT NOW: Think William Basinski, Avro Part, Library Tapes, Rafael Anton Irisarri, Peter broderick: http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=195845 "Although
born in Hungary, Martin Herterich calls Sweden his home. The ambient
composer's spiritual residence is clearly somewhere between WIlliam
Basinski and artists like Library Tapes however, sculpting deeply
melancholy piano compositions in a web of hiss and echo. This album was
originally self-released as a limited CD-r, created in dedication to
the lost lives of two of Herterich's close friends. Knowing this only
lends an even greater sense of resonance to these intensely morose
recordings, and the album acquires a haunting, almost excruciating
emotional power. Light computer processing helps to break up the
mournful piano passages nicely, and 'A Little Lost Without You' breaks
up the elegiac tone with a more ambiguous feel that's somewhere between
Stephan Mathieu and Boards Of Canada. Putting a third-party slant on
all this is Simon Scott, whose remix arrives as a digital exclusive.
Scott is fairly reverent with the source material, preserving its
textured introspection and adding delicate micro-rhythms to the mix.
Excellent." Hannu "Hintergarten" cd is now SOLD OUT! For all of those who ere quick enough to pick up this amazing album then you know just how talented the Finnish sound artist is. It has been a pleasure for Kesh to release such an accomplishes album. The download is available at www.boomkat.com "Another
unmissable album of crackly, homespun electronica from Helsinki's
Hannu, once again released via the Kesh imprint. Hintergarten twinkles
into life with the sound of worn-out, lo-fi glockenspiel recordings
rubbing up against strings and muffled bass samples. In fact, opening
track 'Pop' serves as an excellent refresher course in what makes
Hannu's music so distinctive and alluring: the sweetest of melodies
seem to collide in a manner that isn't quite fully in tune or in time,
sounding all the more lovable for their rundown, loose-fitting
weariness. The album's sound palette is garnished with overspills of
vinyl noise, cassette hiss and the various other side-effects of using
battered old recordings for source material. On 'Theme For Grant' you
might hear some parallels with something like Four Tet's 'She Moves
She', carving mismatching string instruments into sparkling spliced
together riffs set against a backdrop of shuffling beats - Hannu's
music does sound as if it was made a good century or so before Kieren
Hebden was even born though. For all the other records it might bring
to mind (the music of Colleen and certain members of the Fonal camp
offering particularly strong parallels) Hintergarten is unique for the
continuous state of winter it plunges the listener into; from the album
artwork to the frosted charms of tracks like 'Kimallus' and
'Unenvieja', Hannu evokes a veritable musical Narnia. Anyone for
Turkish Delight"? Reviews: http://www.electronicbeats.net/Music/Reviews/Hannu-Hintergartenhttp://www.normanrecords.com/records/107050 "Hannu is back with his 2nd album on the ole Kesh label ran by Televise
guru and head honcho Simon Scott. Hannu's previous album was a lovely
mess of melodic electronica and electro acoustic gubbins all lovingly
crafted together like a well laid out dining table. Mmm... Dining... We
like a bit of fine dining here.... Hintergarden continues the
lovelyness with some amazingly lush melodies and ideas crammed
together. There's plenty of twinkles to even give Colleen a run for her
money (she is the current queen of twinkles). It reminds me a little of
Four Tet's 'Pause' album but without the beats and with more of an
experimental feel, maybe a bit of mid period Remote Viewer in there 'n
all. The whole album has quite a majestic feel to it and for those who
like bedroom electronica then I reckon this is a must have. The more I
hear it the more I'm sucked into the lovelyness that smothers each song
with it's syrupy cleverness and general brilliance. Yes I like it. It
may have something to do with the fact that half of Isan have produced
it. Also the aforementioned label head honcho helps out with some of
the playing on it and additional production. Apparently the label are
more proud of this than any other release and I can see why. It's
really very good!"! *So what have Kesh got in store next??? Mind Blowing second album by Autistici called '"omplex Tone Test" will surely go down as one of the albums of 2009: OUT OCTOBER! His debut on 12k was an electroacoustic feast but this new album also add' Motorik/Krautrock influences, modern classical composition and head fuck artwork which surely will see this UK sound artist showered in musical praise....we can't wait! *Isan "Eastside" featuring Steinbruchel, Taylor Deupree, Simon Scott and The Sight Below, is beinbg mastered as I type and Monolyth & Cobalt from France are also very close to releasing their death Ambient album "Rives": : ::: :: : GET EXCITED :)¬See live dates for kesh artists out on the road including a few from me ( Simon Scott) pre release of my debut album " Navigare" out September on Miasmah Recordings. Mastered by Andreas Tilliander featuring Jasper TX, Moskitoo and Rafael Anton Irisarri.*SS.

HANNU "Harhailua" download OUT NOW!!!!
**BOOMKAT EXCLUSIVE!** Harhailua follows up the magical debut album, Worms In My Piano, from Finnish artist Hannu. Upon that album's release almost two years ago, it tapped into a rich vein of delicately abstract electronic music spearheaded by the likes of Colleen and Hannu's compatriots on Fonal - most notably Es, whose rough-edged loops and folksy otherness finds a kindred spirit here. The compositions here embrace harps, glockenspiels, and all manner of frost-dappled samples, evoking a wintry wonderland filmed in Super-8, full of grains and vintage production quirks. It's often the simplicity of these arrangements that makes them so successful: the combination of mysterious field recordings and elegaic horns on 'Kautta Aikan' brings to mind the haunted songs of Lau Nau or perhaps even Mùm at their best, while 'Masseudun Tulevaisuus' is an unruly patchwork combining scratchy instrumental snippets - like a Lucky Pierre album conceived in Moominvalley. Taking the music in a slightly different direction, 'Hyyris' and 'Hakolahti' embrace electronic beats, but retain that endearingly decrepit sound that characterises the rest of the album, perhaps recalling Kim Hiorthoy's early homespun emissions. An accessible and atmospheric assemblage of electronic songs that's sure to find great resonance in the snowy climes of this February.

88 tapes : :: ::: various compilationmastered by Taylor Deupree- OUT NOW!- Kesh088::: cdr limited edition with handmade full colour booklet in ejector case/c88 cassette tape/flac/mp3 download- exclusive tracks available at: http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=153395Reviews:Boomkat: A quick scan of that line-up of artists will tell you what a splendid compilation this is poised to be: assembled are Lawrence English, Greg Davis, Sawako and Christopher Bissonette among others - indeed, factor in the likes of Fourcolor and Moskitoo, and you've got yourself a decent cross-section of the Kranky and 12k rosters offering their services on this release. Although the assembled artists tackle their tape-themed contributions from a variety of different angles (some embrace beats and finely polished surfaces while others emphasize the haziness and overall grit of the medium) there's really nothing here that could be described as difficult, and you'll find an all-round sense of beauty and harmoniousness in the work of everyone from Orla Wren to Mark Templeton". "The first of two releases we've recently been fortunate enough to nab from the Cambridge based Kesh imprint. Kesh for those previously unaware - as was I until stumbling across this brace of outings - is a newly formed label overseen by Simon Scott - one time member of shoe gaze / dream pop darlings Slowdive and latterly of Televise and Seavault (with a certain Anthony Ryan of Isan fame). To date the label has released three full lengths (all we hasten to add sadly missed by us) from (the aforementioned) Televise, Mole Harness (known to his parents as James Brewster whose work you can hear via http://www. myspace. com/moleharness - and we feel you should) and Saito Koji (a fukushima based artist whose work can be sampled via http://www. myspace. com/saitokoji).
Essentially a collaborative project, the idea for '88 tapes' was hatched when Mr Scott discovered a pile of old cassettes containing recordings, sound samples and melodic sketches that he'd made way back in '88. Transferring said tapes to a digital medium he was quietly surprised at what he'd found and set about contacting various musicians with a view to handing out said tracks in order for them to work, explore, develop and re-engineer if they so desired or as the press release notes 'some added field recordings, programmed rhythms, added vocal tracks and others added nothing'.
The end result '88 tapes' comprises of 14 of those aural ideas shared out to thirteen artists across the globe (Scott works one of the tracks '20 years' under his own name and applies the sparsely parched atmospheric accoutrements at his disposal into an textured collage of abstract manipulations that to these ears sounds not unlike a magnified recording of a feeding moth built around an edgily brooding backdrop of Hitchcock-ian invention) and a strange though richly rewarding affair it is, the tracks recalibrated into an array of lunatic ambient landscapes (the celestial arcs of Dale Lloyd's leviathan like 'solar mirage' or the tensely chilled skin prickling bleak overtures of Akira Kosemura's 'old tapes'), pulsating drone montages (as on Sawako's re-drill of 'long long time ago' - the looping drone swathes transmitting their alien mayday distress call to the cosmic voids whilst sounding not so far removed from early career Vernon Arts Lab as it would have you first believe or the abstract tonalities ominously hollowed and honed by Lawrence English within the mind erasing mesmerics of 'a spectre of lost time' - very Windy and Carl) and out there noise manipulations (as on the glacially framed binary dub white noise showers that shimmer throughout 'Christopher Bissonnette's re-reading of 'measuring flutter' - very EAR if you ask me). If there's any complaint to be made its just that Scott hasn't made available the original sources for comparable account.
Last venturing in these pages courtesy of their stunning face off with the Manhattan Love Suicides, Random Number continue their impeccably faultless foray into the realms of the remix world while simultaneously engaging in their unique brand of out there bliss groove obviously keen disciples of Sonic Boom as 'cassette 8' admirably reveals.
From the Flying Saucer Attack like snow stormed cavernous delicacies applied by Aus to 'esnow' with its flurries of idling flotillas of lunatic pastoral twinkles scratched and scarred by sheens of cosmic interference to Greg Davis' re-upholstering of 'three treasures' into some darkly woven hypnotically hulking Alphane Moon styled crafting of head frying Kranky-esque psyche mantras, '88 tapes' provides an illuminating peek into the twilight species and realms of some of the lesser known talents operating within the parameters of the hidden worlds of noise / aural sculpturing.
In the hands of Mark Templeton 'felt' is richly coaxed with a hitherto sombrely detached almost industrial hollowness, disembodied fragments of sound motifs flicker and disappear endowing a strange early career Pimmon-esque chamber like fluidity to the process. Similarly trained with the air of unease is Ateleia's encoding of 'along-a-space-diagonal' as it pumps from its futuristic mechanoid furnace the emotionless and deeply penetrative detached chill of ominously oppressive opines.
Upon an underpinning landscape of swirling hypnotic tides fourcolor's 'remix' playfully dapples its environs with lazily woven pulsing chord plucked figurines whose initially pensive almost somnambulant charm soon begins to slowly thaw and dot the frosty stillness with a shy eyed warmth. 'XIME' by Moskitoo or Sanae Yamasaki as she's better known to kith and kin is a beautifully dreamy cortege of delicately fluffy and willowy sleepy headed spring hued orbital rustic inclines that slyly catches you off guard with its sultry beguile, longingly threaded with twittering binary communications and an utterly endearing faraway beauty teased with such a lazy eyed resonance it could easily pass for Heather Duby or Smile Down Upon Us. The bowed chimes of the mysteriously and eerie though strangely mesmerising '33 fainting spells' by Orla Wren indeed provides a strangely unsettling meditative calm, its tranquil though ostensibly reverent allure ominously manifesting into what can only be described as an enchanting centuries old Tibetan incantation".
The compilation comes available as a download and in limited release quantities - 500 CDr's and a specially commissioned 88 copies only C-88 cassette edition.

Kesh recently released the early works debut album by Lorenzo Senni. This is what you said: www.boomkat.com- Italian composer Lorenzo Senni unleashes his first album on the world, and it's a minor masterpiece in ear-searing digital manipulation and exuberant sound design. There's something very much reminiscent of the golden age of Mego about all this, and in addition to the more commonplace Fennesz influences evident on 'pool5' and the like, you'll hear wild and inventive takes on the sort of material explored by Pita, General Magic and Farmers Manual. 'spckrft' is a vicious piece of sonic demolition, opening the record with a gleefully destructive tone, before 'Glenfield nd' tries to make amends, bathing you in a languid bitstream of melody. A number of two minute miniatures ensue, filled with crispy, desiccated sound matter, but then a beautiful, extended drone composition suddenly presents a very different side to Senni's music, sounding effortlessly frail and refined, occupying the highest strata of the frequency spectrum. First class stuff. Highly recommended.
www.smallfish.co.uk *spotlight* Lorenzo Senni's debut album comes on Simon Scott's Kesh Recordings imprint and it's a superb slice of textural electronic delight. It's a work that takes in two distinct styles and varies between distorted, occasionally Tim Hecker-esque soundscapes that have a deep element of melody in there along with much more blissed out tracks that move more into ambient territory. Shorter interlude tracks lead sweetly into the longer, more hypnotic works and I like the way they act as a sort of aural puctuation to emphasize the beauty of those works. For those who enjoy some toothsome processed sounds this is a real goodie and it comes immaculately packaged as well I might add in a slightly oversized cardboard sleeve... it really looks wonderful. All round a great release.
www.normanrecords.co.uk Early Works is an 8 track CD in an A5 (ish) postcard style sleeve with the cover having a flying killer whale in the background. Musically there's 8 tracks of crackly ambient sounding electronics sounding a bit like a scarier Machinefabriek at times. Some of the tracks sound like someone trying to tune a radio and getting loads of weird sounds and the odd melody creeping through as the radio tried to tune into a station. It's an interesting album with hints of Flourescent Grey in it's disjointed abstract behaviour. This will appeal to folks who like the harsher end of the Raster Noton gear.

Televise - From Anywhere To Anyone...Remixes. (Kesh)
Remix albums these days can be daunting prospects. There seems to be a habit of laziness on the part of the person(s) doing the mixing. Especially prevalent on EP's where B-sides have the same song remixed in exactly the same way 7 times and have names like, "The Funky Dog walking in Custard Mix." Thankfully, this release has a genuine artistic merit and also, not a tacky remix song title in sight, phew!

For anyone not familiar with Televise, drummer Simon Scott was the man tapping the sticks in Slowdive and is now Televise's frontman. Slowdive's influence is more than apparent these days and that is highlighted wonderfully by the contributors on this release.
Using atmospheric guitar lines and perfect pop melodies, Televise are an uplifting angst edged wall of sound and are ready to be remixed and re-invented by some very high profile names and the results are simply stunning…
"Underwater," one of my favourite Televise tracks, gets a refreshing makeover treatment from the duo Isan. This is one of the most successful remixes on the album with Isan endeavoring to make a superb song even better. A fat, rolling glitchy beat slaps away, the analogue bass throbs smoothly, the guitar slides (like the original version) a pensive drawl and yes, that familiar Isan Ambiance floats on the surface and adds buoyancy. A down-tempo delight and remix masterpiece.
Ulrich Schnauss admits to being hugely influenced by Slowdive and therefore is a great choice of remixer for this album. "Radiation Sound" gets deconstructed by Schnauss and is drowned in beautiful tidal waves of ambient shoegaze noise. A dreamy soundscape, the soundtrack for drifting contemplation. Another highlight and another take on Televise.
Praveen give "Never Alone" a fragile Folktronica twist. Despite the electronic aspects of the mix, organic acoustic melodies give the song a natural Autumnal feel. Country lanes, vast fields and hedge lined lanes pass are invoked as you are tempted to stare in wonder and sadness. Slow acoustic guitars are plucked gently, melancholic vocals and what sounds like an old fashioned organ breathes airily and leaves you in a state of blissful contemplation.
This is a great collection of remixes, which also includes wonderful pieces by Yellow6, Port-Royal and Library Tapes among many others. This is truly a rare beacon that shines brightly in the often dull world of remix albums.
8/10
www.boomkat.com :
Simon Scott, former drummer in Slowdive, gives some of today's foremost electronica artists the chance to remix his music, with the likes of Ulrich Schnauss, Sebastien Roux, Isan, Library Tapes and a great many others all rising to the challenge. In addition to Televise, Scott has links to a host of other notable acts (Epic45, Seavault - even playing drums for Klimek), giving some indication of the sort of network of fellow musicians he has to call upon. Schnauss is up first, bringing his distinctive brand of 21st century shoegaze to the beautiful 'Radiation Sound'. Next comes a fine digital re-jig of 'I Don't Know Why' by D_rradio, followed by a change of pace and approach by the always loveely Library Tapes, who really tap into the spirit of the grandiose, early '90s indie heritage of it all. Scott's own 'Flood Out' is a blast of effects-soaked texture, heralding a shift towards more experimental tendencies, which come to a head during 12k/room40 artist Sebastien Roux's cerebral, micro-dissection of 'Secret Valentine'. A return to poppier song formats isn't far away though, thanks to the melodic electronic warmth of Isan, Praveen and Zegunder. A great set of remixes from top to bottom, each really embracing the spirit of Scott's work. Recommended.
www.smallfish.co.uk said:
Simon Scott's Televise project is a varied, engaging and really well put together one. Whether he's delivering static-hazed guitar beauty or a more electronic style there's always something in there to admire. This selection of remixes of tracks is a perfect reflection of the variety that Scott himself is capable of. The artists involved include Ulrich Schnauss, Library Tapes, Isan, Praveen, Yellow6, Port Royal, Mole Harness, Sebastien Roux, Zegunder and D_rradio. It's an inspired selection and whether you're blissing out to the epic, shimmering shoegaze beauty of Schnauss, being challenged by the deeply experimental, but still recognisable Sebastien Roux version or even chilling out over the lovely electronic treatments by Isan or D_rradio, you're sure to find plenty to enjoy here. Particularly if you're a fan of the electronic side of things. A great project and great end product. Super stuff.
