Current mood:  accomplished
We would like to say goodbye to everyone who has supported us throughout the past year.
You have all been amazing! But sadly, we are busy college students and just dont have the time (among other things).
So thank you to all our friends, fans, groupies, whatevers, whoevers, venues that gave us the opportunity to play, bands that we played with, but most Importantly! We would like to thank Jared Brickman. Our first bassist and the man who wrote most of the music, managed the band and basically did everything for us before he graduated college.
Its been fun guys!

We added some recordings for our last show ever. Enjoy

The czar sends his regards to nostalgia
Wishin' that he could still be called a king
Before bloody sunday was ever brought to be witnessed
Russia was a Russians favorite place to be.

Then Karl sat down and wrote the book that empowered the belief
That every man was just the same and could save us lots of greif
Lenin was his right hand man screaming "God save this great state!"
If government determined wealth than everything'd be great!

And the red flew over Moscow,
On that grey December day,
We have given all our freedoms,
Communism, is the way!

Now it's cold and I'm in line to get vodka,
My ration cards for bread but I need this drag,
When I go home to Eugena she will be disgusted
That dinner will be in a bottle and a paper bag.

Well Mr. Stalin said that Mother Land loves what I do,
And I do get so very tired of scooping other people's poo.
The degree I earned to be an engineer has brought me use,
At least now I can design a very effective noose!

And the red flew over Moscow,
On that grey December day,
We have given all our freedoms,
Communism, is the way!

The commies marching down the street are screaming follow me,
Red and grey and Russian fur as far as one can see,
The Manifesto's festering an epidemic coo,
I've got to get to Switzerland before they run me through!

GET LUCKY WITH BEHIND BAD LUCK! AT MAGGIE'S

Up and coming ska band returns to the North Country from New York City to play a St. Patrick's Day celebration.

Behind Bad Luck!, ska-rock band based out of Potsdam NY, is heading to Plattsburgh this Saturday, March 15th, to rock downtown hot spot Maggie's Pub. Comprised entirely of musicians from all over the northeast studying at SUNY Potsdam's, Crane School Of Music, Behind Bad Luck! plans to bring focused musicianship, and high energy to the venue. The band is very excited to make its debut to the area.
On the evening of March 1st, Behind Bad Luck! played an over-sold show at the Knitting Factory, a historic and renowned venue in New York City. Over 200 scenesters and music fans packed the venue's Tap Room, to dance to Behind Bad Luck! and the 5 other bands sharing the stage with them that night. The band designates that experience as the best audience response they've experienced in their short, rapidly developing career. Jared Brickman, bassist for Behind Bad Luck!, recounts: "By the end of the set, there were kids literally hanging off the ceiling, chanting our name and demanding an encore." The band invites readers to search YouTube for videos of the fans doing just that.
The gentlemen of Behind Bad Luck! send their thanks to the Pope, as he moved St. Patrick's Day, a holiday much anticipated for its revelries, to the night of their show at Maggie's. Why did the Pope move St. Patrick's Day? Being that the Irish festival would have fallen on the day after the catholic holiday Palm Sunday, the pope decided that St. Patrick should be celebrated on Saturday, March 15th. Behind Bad Luck! is excited to see a cheerful audience, celebrating Irish heritage and of course, beer.

Come get lucky with Behind Bad Luck!:

SMALL TOWN BAND TO ROCK THE BIG APPLE

Students of the Crane School of Music Represent SUNY Potsdam In A Venture to the Vibrant New York City Music Scene With Their Band Behind Bad Luck!

"Start spreadin' the news, Behind Bad Luck! is leaving today, we want to be apart of it: New York, New York!." And a part of it they will be, March 1st at 7pm in one of New York City's premiere venues: The Knitting Factory. Coming from all corners of the Northeast, the Ska band is comprised of music students studying at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

Potsdam, NY is a small town - an isolated pocket of culture and energy, the little village treasures the injection of life that emanates from the local universities. Community members can be found regularly attending music and sporting events on campus to stimulate their intellect and maximize their leisure. This excitement is but a speck of dust when placed in the shadow of the mass quantity and broad spectrum of activity in New York City. Behind Bad Luck! is poised for the change of pace.

For aspiring artists like those in Behind Bad Luck!, Potsdam provides only a cozy home where they can focus on perfecting their craft, and testing their art, at small local venues. The rigorous degree program guides students through training in musicianship and provides many opportunities for performing experience. Even with the fortunate circumstances they find in their education, the restless members of Behind Bad Luck! are looking to places more distant than Crane's performance halls . As told by Ben O'Brien Smith, the drummer of Behind Bad Luck, "The Potsdam music scene remains to be somewhat single sided, and our band is looking to play in locations with a diverse music scene, that gives the band a greater opportunity to reach more people, and share the stage with different artists." This does not mention the excitement that comes from urban hiking, subway hopping and "dirty water dogs" in the Big City. The band hopes that many of their "North Country" friends will join them in seizing a piece of what NYC has to offer.

MOZART MAKES THIS BAND MORE THAN JUST A BAND
Students of the Crane School of Music Take Their Classical Training To A Unique Setting: the Ska-Punk band Behind Bad Luck!

What if you went to a rock show and on stage you saw the 18th century J.S. Bach, strumming upstrokes on an electric guitar, or perhaps the infamous Beethoven flailing through boisterous fills on the drum set? What would be your reaction if you witnessed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart belting out punk rock vocals into a microphone? Finally, imagine if they had all collaborated on a composition, to be performed by this unique setting, in the style of classical music.

This kind of surreal music conglomeration will come to life at Mezzanotte Lounge (658 N Salina St, Syracuse), Thursday, January 10th, when Ska-Punk band Behind Bad Luck! (joined by the esteemed Ska band The Action!) takes the stage to perform their songs. Because each member of Behind Bad Luck! is a music student studying at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music, the group cannot deny the great influence of their undergraduate studies. Behind Bad Luck!'s lead guitarist, John Pizzirusso explains: "Studying [Classical] music theory changes our writing style in that, it brings a different element that you wouldn't typically hear in a Pop Rock band." That element is the focused compositional techniques of classical composers from centuries past.

In a four semester sequence, students at the Crane School must analyze works written by composers from before the birth of Christ to those currently writing today. In doing this, the students gain an understanding of the development of music composition, and techniques that can transform melodies into full orchestral masterworks. Professors at the Crane School of Music teach their students to employ the skills they hone in the theory classroom, into all of their music endeavors.

For the eight performers of Behind Bad Luck!, the long heritage of music is an integral part of their experience. This can be found in the Ska-Punk chorales that introduce their original "Soviet Russia", or finish out "Conflict of Interest, Mr. Vice President"; both of which pay dues to the heralded religious chorales of J.S. Bach. Other manifestations of Crane studies in their music are found in the band's careful attention to song form, and within that attention, the practice of classical harmonic theory. In Behind Bad Luck!'s music, underlying the punk vocals, youthful energy, and artistic expression, is a long practiced craft – a characteristic the band shares with few contemporaries in the current rock band environment.
