well hello you!
just want to thank everyone who came to see us at Oporto in Leeds last week....that was probably the best gig we darlings have played so far.  As a result, we can't wait to do it all over again this Friday in Brixton so if you have a hankering for some very noisy pop music in a cool venue, you know what you gotta do!  Hope to see you there, amigo.

that's gonna be the last of our shows for 2009..many more to come in the new year along with some new music.  we're working on that at the moment and, though i'm a tad biased, i have to say 'bleach to white' is sounding pretty special.  a bit of a change in sound maybe - closer to our live sound than previous recordings..but very cool all the same.

other exciting things are in the offing but i'll wait till they're confirmed before i shout about them.

stay lazy.

hello gorgeous!

this thursday, we're going to be doing a live acoustic session and and bit of chitter chat on Adam Pope's show on BBC Radio Leeds this Thursday at 8pm.  tune in...92.4 FM and 103.9 FM (also 95.3 FM and 102.7 FM) 774 AM and DAB radio.

also, as a preview to our gig at the monthly Foxes and Convicts night at Milos in Leeds on 21st October, we recorded a podcast at the weekend.  It will be available on itunes and www.foxesandconvicts.co.uk on friday.  dave and rod play an acoustic version of 'fade away' and then both join Andy from Victors and Jon from March Of Dimes on a Victors tune followed by a jam session with some freestyle rapping courtesy of the sound engineer...let's see how it turned out, eh?!

..from the Islington gazette......

LIVE REVIEW: The Lazy Darlings

05 August 2009

............................................................................

Hope & Anchor, Upper Street, N1

YOU might not realise it, but every single night of the week scores of bands from all over the UK knock off work early, pack up their kit in a hired transit van and set the Satnav for the long journey to Islington or Camden - all for the love of the music, man.

The majority will be traipsing back home before the last power chord has died out and back at their desk bleary-eyed the morning after.

Most hope to win a few new fans, or at the very least play a gig for their ....London.... mates who might know someone who knows someone who knows something about bagging a record deal.

Or maybe (in the next life) that A&R man who said "give me a call if you're ever playing in ....London...." might actually get off his arse and come down and see you?

Making the 400 mile round trip down the M1 from Leeds to ..
Upper Street
.. and back tonight is The Lazy Darlings - relative newcomers in band years but packed to the rafters with (young-ish) veterans from ..Leeds..' eclectic and underrated music scene.

I had heard good things from my sources in the north, and I wasn't disappointed.

Propelled by the catchy country-pop melodies of frontman Dave James (ex-Cardboard Cowboy), the four-piece pack a mean punch live - their rudimentary racket conjuring up the spirit of Goats Head Soup-era Rolling Stones on Laura.

James' gravel-and-sand voice may be an acquired taste for some, but personally I'd rather listen to the wayward genius of Dylan than the latest soulless X-factor no-hoper.

Some sweet female backing vocals get a little lost in the mix but it all comes together for the band's calling card Life Is Easy - a great pop single redolent of Belle & Sebastian classic Lazy Line Painter Jane.

It's a long way back to ..Yorkshire.., but for what it's worth this is one Londoner who will be first in the queue the next time these dedicated diehards hit the long road south. - MATT HUMPHREYS

it's been a while folks and, so far, a year of various ups and downs.  we've had to wave goodbye to bassman jim due to him being dead busy and all...we wish the sexy one all the very best with this, that and everything.  as luck would have it, within 24 hours of learning about jim's predicament we stumbled upon Mr Rodrigo Castro who hails from Austin, Texas no less. (ok, an hour south of Austin, in the great city of San Antonio)...  we've only had a couple of rehearsals and already it's sounding mighty fine'n'fucking dandy!

we narrowly missed out on playing the Red Stripe Music Awards final...we got shortlisted but unfortunately didn't make it to the final 4.  ho-dee-hum..it was nice to have got so far with it.

next gig is in leeds on may 16th at the primrose and we'll be recording some new music verrrrrry soon.

stay sweet.
