You know I'm rocking some political frustration
when I take the time out to rant about it. The double standard in our country
is painfully obvious. Its acceptable for CNN & pMSNBC to shovel messianic
worship upon Obama but unacceptable for FOX News to chose not to televise
one of his press conferences. Even though it was acceptable for Obama to
almost completely snub the (highest rated) network during the election
and for his White House to snub them even more post-election because they're
not left-leaning. So we call FOX News biased for it but give CNN a free
pass for sucking on the Obama teet for the last year? Of course, we didn't
call CNN biased for the negative coverage of George W. or for the negative
coverage of Sarah Palin, but can call FOX News biased for covering them
positively. Liberals have no less than 4 cable news channels pushing their
agenda, not counting local news channels, so Alah forbid that there be
one that offers an opposing viewpoint. Yet when it comes to talk radio
they repeatedly push the Fairness Doctrine because they don't think their
one talk show to half a dozen conservative ones is fair, when at the end
of the day they could have just as many talk shows for their views if the
ratings didn't suck slime.
I know its hard for socialists to understand,
because they appreciate a society where the government has a monopoly on
industry and have no appreciation for the freedom of choice, but in a capitalist
(and typically successful) economy, it's necessary for something we call
"counter programming." See, counter programming is when you offer
an alternate viewpoint or just something different from your competitors
because you acknowledge that not everyone likes the same thing. This encourages
competition which forces businesses to compete for customers if they want
to succeed. That is why they put Ice Age 3 out the same weekend as Public
Enemies, because some people don't want to see an animated movie about
prehistoric critters on an adventure. Trust me, its called "smart
business." To reference The Elongated Man, that's why ice cream stores
don't just sell chocolate and vanilla, cuz sometimes people order Butter
Pecan. And it obviously works, because the ratings for FOX News reflect
that. Just because you don't like Butter Pecan doesn't mean it shouldn't
be sold. The supporters of things like the Fairness Doctrine would like
to believe that content should be controlled, but what they refuse to acknowledge
is that content is controlled... its controlled by you and I.
I personally have no interest in Grey's Anatomy
at all, so I don't watch it. Now, if enough people stop watching it...
ABC would stop making and airing it. It happens to dozens of TV shows every
year. But the painful fact is that some people like watching tv shows about
doctors who sleep with each other and cry alot. Which is fine, its just
not for me so I choose not to watch it. However, I don't seriously think
it should be cancelled and everyone should be forced to watch LOST &
South Park. Of course, its my personal opinion that LOST is the greatest
TV show ever made and I vote with my support of the show but I wouldn't
rob other people of their form of entertainment. I think reality TV is
a scar on the face of humanity but I'm not going to take that choice away
from the public... because this is America, the land of the free.
The unfortunate fact is that our country
is full of bigots. You will hear people rail against bigots towards race
& sexuality but you never hear the discussion of mental bigots. A bigot
is defined as "a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions
differing from their own or intolerant of people of different ethnicity,
race, or class." People usually only focus on the second half of that
definition, ignoring the fact that to completely disregard someone for
their opinions or beliefs is bigotry at its purest. To buy into a network
that openly disregards the so called "Bible Belt" or anyone with
a conservative viewpoint is to buy into bigotry. Literally though. Those
companies make their money off of advertising money which is allotted based
on ratings which are based off numbers of viewers. Of course, there's a
difference between disagreeing with an opinion and being intolerant of
a difference in opinion. Just like there's a difference between a political
commentator and a reporter. People like to generalize that Sean Hanity
or Rush Limbaugh are biased and that makes them bad... but it doesn't.
They're political commentators, the same that Bill Maher or Alan Colmes
are. It just so happens that Limbaugh & Hanity are far more successful
than either Maher or Colmes, which gets liberals' panties in a bunch because
it's proof that not everyone in the country thinks their opinion is right.
For a side of the aisle that spouts freedom of choice... they sure do push
bigotry against any choice that isn't theirs.
A perfect example of the situation is comparing
private businesses to public schools. If you place your child in the (failing,
government run) public school system, then you place your child in a system
that indoctrinates its students to a particular viewpoint. Thanks to the
lack of support for charter schools and other regulations regarding where
your child can go, there's no competition forcing the schools to improve
or offer variety which leads to you having to choose between indoctrination
or excessively expensive private schools. In the private business sector,
however, you have a choice. If a business endorses a candidate or viewpoint
you don't like, then no one says you have to shop there anymore. Especially
in today's cyber-age, there's plenty of options available for where to
spend your money. Businesses rise & fall based on their profit, so
if a company starts waving a Nazi flag out front... you can expect it to
fail relatively quickly. Its up to the customer to decide where they spend
their money and if you don't like something a company does, stop giving
them your money. Due to the incredible leftist bias of Cox Publishing,
I no longer buy any of their newspapers and don't even go to their website
to keep them from earning ad revenue from me. I don't buy albums from anti-American
bands, and during the election I chose to patronize places who supported
my views or took a neutral stance. As a responsible consumer, its our choice
to vote with our wallets. Its a little thing I like to call personal responsibility.
The double standard is shenanigans and is
blatant hypocrisy. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. You either
jump on everyone for their political bias, or you jump on noone for it.
It is a black and white issue... no gray space.

Ok... so this song has been haunting me for a week. I couldn't remember anything but a small amount of the tune, and it would just loop through my mind & drive me crazy. SO I started hunting. It led me back to an old movie called "susie Q" (I just called a movie from the 90s old) which was a dead end... but today I had a breakthrough. Thank Al Gore for the interwebs... because I have my sanity back. Or at least the little my mother left me with. Anyways... sad song.

Current mood: shocked
Seriously though.

ATLANTA (AP) - It's been two months since 2-year-old Cori pulled the gold stud from her left earlobe, and the piercing is threatening to close as her mother, Maggie Anderson, hunts for a replacement. It's not that the earring was all that rare—but finding the right store has become a quest of Quixotic proportions. Maggie and John Anderson of Chicago vowed four months ago that for one year, they would try to patronize only black-owned businesses. The "Empowerment Experiment" is the reason John had to suffer for hours with a stomach ache and Maggie no longer gets that brand-name lather when she washes her hair. A grocery trip is a 14-mile odyssey. "We kind of enjoy the sacrifice because we get to make the point ... but I am going without stuff and I am frustrated on a daily basis," Maggie Anderson said. "It's like, my people have been here 400 years and we don't even have a Walgreens to show for it." So far, the Andersons have spent hundreds of dollars with black businesses from grocery stores to dry cleaners. But the couple still hasn't found a mortgage lender, home security system vendor or toy store. Nonetheless, they're hoping to expand the endeavor beyond their Chicago home. Plans are under way to track spending among supporters nationwide and build a national database of quality black businesses. The first affiliate chapter has been launched in Atlanta, and the couple has established a foundation to raise funds for black businesses and an annual convention. "We have the real power to do something, to use the money we spend every day to solve our problems," Maggie Anderson said recently at a meet-and-greet in Atlanta. "We have to believe that black businesses are just as good as everybody else's." Now, the Andersons are following up with 4,000 people who signed up for the experiment on their Web site to gauge their commitment and set up online accounts to track their spending. Hundreds have also joined the experiment's Facebook page, Maggie Anderson said. Gregory Price, chairman of the economics department at Morehouse College, said black visionaries like Booker T. Washington and Marcus Garvey made similar calls to action. "The idea is a sound one, given that black Americans are still underrepresented in the ranks of the self-employed and that entrepreneurship is a key component to wealth," Price said. There are one million black businesses in the United States accounting for more than $100 billion in annual sales, according to the National Black Chamber of Commerce. The latest U.S. Census numbers report that blacks have more than $800 billion in expendable income each year. The Andersons track their spending on their Web site and estimate about 55 percent of their monthly spending is with black businesses for things like day care, groceries, car maintenance and home improvements. One of the businesses highlighted by the Empowerment Experiment is Brenda Brown's Atlanta wine boutique, a shop with a growing black clientele. She said the project can help overcome the problems many black consumers lament. "When we were a community of black folks who could not go to the white stores, our community of black stores flourished," Brown said. "When we were given the opportunity to go into the white store, it was like nothing else mattered anymore and we wanted to go to the white store, regardless of what the black store provided. We could have the same or better products if we supported (black businesses) in the same way." Lewis Peeples, 45, lives in a black neighborhood in southwest Atlanta but didn't think to spend his money with black businesses until a friend told him about the project. "So often, we make purchases and decisions and aren't even mindful that there is a a need to support our own businesses," said Peeples. "Now, I'm reaching out and making sure I know that I have an option when I look to make a purchase." Two months ago, he committed to patronizing black businesses and found a black dry cleaner 10 minutes from home. Even when he was dissatisfied with his black doctor, he was able to find a new one. He suggests both to friends and refers others to the experiment's Web site, where he tracks his expenses. Dallas Smith, who owns a commercial real estate firm in Atlanta, said mainstream retailers have undervalued black consumers. He lives in a black neighborhood in southwest Atlanta, where he tries to dine at black restaurants. He lamented the lack of quality businesses catering to black customers and said blacks should appreciate such businesses more. "We've still got that 'the white man's water is colder' mentality," he said. "We can't take us for granted. When we go to our establishments, it's almost like we're doing a favor. That ought to be a given for us." The Andersons remain encouraged by their momentum online and in the media. At the end of 2009, they hope to show $1 million in spending with black businesses among supporters across the country. "The response has been so huge," Maggie Anderson said. "We think so much can come out of this. We're in movement-making mode now." Price, the Morehouse professor, said defining the project's success won't be easy, since the real barriers to black advancement are poor access to capital and lack of training opportunities. "It would be nice to see some real, hard data," Price said. "Otherwise, it could just be an episode of ethnic cheerleading."

Current mood: rockin
Category: News and Politics
On April 15th, Americans across the fruited plain came together to protest outrageous taxes and outrageous government spending. Not to protest a black man, not to protest the newly elected president, but to protest what the fiscal policies of the current administration. Now it’s fine for people to protest a war that liberates a country from an oppressive dictator and to protest the money being spent on it. So explain to me how it’s then wrong for someone to protest bloated government spending & taxes that are HISTORICALLY PROVEN to harm our economy. I was under the impression that the constitution granted us not only the freedom to speak our minds, but also the right to protest if we'd like. People against the protests aren't even giving legit arguments to why the high taxes & spending are good... just that we shouldn't protest. No reason why we shouldn't, other than its the Age of Obama and we should all be in peaceful harmony... unless of course your opinion is different than the majority, then you don't get to take part in the harmony.
I thought Obama was the great uniter? Where was his speech supporting the rights of the protesters to believe what they like? Did he misplace that teleprompter? I thought he wanted to be bi-partisan, so where's his speech saying that he will take the complaints into consideration? Why is he not decrying the vitriol against Conservatives and telling us we need to come together? He said a lot of that during the election, so I'm wondering if he's changed his mind yet.
Of course, the same tune I keep hearing is that "Conservatives can't handle loosing an election, and now they've got their panties in a bunch." This of course, is insanity from the start. Does anyone remember the rabid outrage of the left in 2004 when they lost their election? When no one thought a bigger idiot that George W. Bush could be found, then the Democrats nominated John Kerry? The bigotry & hatred flying from the mouths of liberals because someone had an opinion different than theirs? How dare their neighbors not conform to their exact opinions! I mean, I've heard of people no longer speaking to conservative friends because they voted for Bush. I, for one, did not abandon any of my friends that voted for Obama, and openly accept anyone, regardless of their opinions on political matters.
In decades past, it’s been acceptable to cast blanket hate on people for any number of reasons. For a while it was because they were black, or Irish, then because they were Japanese. Later Jews, Muslims, Christians, & Mexicans all felt the fire of hate based on their beliefs or physical attributes. Women spent DECADES fighting for equal rights that should have been theirs from the start. The new acceptable whipping boy? Conservatives. Republican, libertarian, whatever the case may be. Why does someone need to judge me based on my beliefs when I don't cast the same judgment on others? Why is it acceptable to look down on me for whom I support, but it would be outrageous if I look down on someone else for supporting Obama? If CNN was broadcasting footage of their reporters openly harassing women at a feminist rally, they would be destroyed. Don Imus made a degrading JOKE about black female basketball players & damn near lost his career. Anderson Cooper gets on CNN and insults conservatives in ways that would make Ann Coulter blush, and everyone shrugs it off like its nothing.
Listen, I'm not trying to get down on any one person in particular. I'm just trying to explain what's going on, and hopefully break through the lack of common sense that seems to surround the political sphere at the moment. 9/10 of the signs at these Tea Parties were about the tax system or the constitution. I've been to anti-war rallies, seen anti-Bush rallies, and seen the displays the left puts on. Their signs are all about how big Bush's ears are, how he tripped up on a few words, how he was the village idiot, or how they hoped Cheney had a heart attack. I mean, if I went around saying "I hope someone pops Michelle" I'd prolly be strung up within the hour. Its outright hypocrisy and discrimination against opposing ideals. Just as bad as discriminating against someone for which deity or book they believe in.
All I'm saying is, is it that hard to tolerate that someone has a different opinion than you? Obama won the election. You got your way, and you got what you wanted. We're just trying to make sure that our voice is still heard in our democratic country, the same thing that liberals did for the 8 years before.

So, I may or may not have seen the movie. I'll begin this by saying right away, I didn't hate it near as much as I thought I would. Actually, I found myself very excited throughout it. The problems I had with the movie, were the problems I thought I would have-
1. The way they took a crap on Deadpool 2. Gambit's lameness/lack of cajun flair
I actually liked the idea of Wolverine & Sabertooth being brothers... cuz it gave them a reason to hate each other. Although, I didn't understand why they couldn't make up after the final fight... but anyways. I loved all their fight scenese, and really only wished I could have had more. I could have done without Deadpool & Gambit fight scenes... and just had more Logan on Victor stuff.
I liked most of the cameos, thought they were well used with rare exception. Am I going to see it at midnight? Ehhh.... its gonna depend on if there's any changes to the final cut. If not, I doubt you'll catch me there at midnight, but I'd still snag a matinee viewing if not just to see the final product. Still, not a downer. I probably liked it better than the first or third X-men movie, if that's any indicator. And as far as spin-off movies go... this is the best one yet. Granted, Catwoman & Elektra being the only "competitors" but nonetheless.
Check it out, I'm sure alot of people with less fanboy blood & attachment to the characters will enjoy it more.

Some lost theories, news, etc. Might be spoilery...
Lost Season Finale May 13th 2 hours "The Incident"
8 hours left this season
Theories-
We're in an alternate future. The second flight heard the numbers being broadcast over the radio (that danielle's folks heard) and it looks like the dharma dock that sun & frank find haven't been touched in years.
Also... Sun & Ben stayed in the future instead of going back with the other Oceanic 6 folks. So... what if its cuz two of them can't exist in the same time? It didn't matter when the donkey wheel was off track, but now that it is, the rules are in force. Ben's younger self was there, and Sun could be Chang's daughter (from the beginning of the season) and/or Miles' sister. Like, when Whidmore's Others take over, they don't kill Sun (cuz of their thing with kids) and he gives it to the man we know as Sun's dad now. It could also explain Miles' abilities. Possible younger frank too? We haven't seen a real connection to the Island for him yet...
Rose & Bernard curled up in the cave & died together, becoming "Adam & Eve"
Jorge Garcia (Hurley on LOST) was on Jay & Jack's 25 Hour Podcast for Autism speaks over the weekend. He said some things, hinting towards other goodies.
says his guitar case is important this season, and that there isn't necessarily a guitar in it.
When asked if he's the one saying the numbers over the loop on the radio, he said he can't say anything except that he knows who it is.
We will get to see Rose & Bernard again this season.
He was not told to paint the Sphinx earlier in the season, he chose to.
