We have quite a few shows coming up! Please, don't miss out on any because without The Gist, your missing out on life. Just show up for the free one on May 8th @ 10pm if your wallet is short. I know mine is.

With that being said, let me get to the point. We, The Gist, have written plenty of new songs for our fans to enjoy and without you guys, we wouldn't know which ones we should put on the radio. The album is still underway, and yes it has been pushed back a bit. Not everyone had Kardashian as a father, so we are still raising the money. I am still looking for a job, Trevor is Graduating from Law School, Greg still travels the world, and Pete is still late all the freakin' time, but we are all still here to provide the nerdiest, most sexually infused rock and fuckin' roll South Florida has yet to hear. And you think Hey Monday has anything on us, your wrong!

The Gist is extremely close to completion of our Debut Album!!! I have listened to the demos before mastering and leveling and I can guarantee our fans, families, and friends, all will enjoy listening. During these past months we have been very busy working on the album, new merchandise, and finding new venues to play out at. We have been able to play a few open mics to keep our sanity but we plan on playing bigger and better events very soon. So although it may seem we are slowing down, let me assure you The Gist are at hard work making sure every detail is done right and efficient. I want to thank Front Man Greg for working his ass off on recording, Thank you Peter for doing your best to keep our practice in routine, and Trevor for managing his Law School business and Band Business in a timely orderly fashion! I thank myself because I can. Be sure to catch The Gist invading your mp3 players, your local venues, and local radio very soon!

Here's our interview at http://www.rock-is-life.com/..2009fivequestions/thegist.htm!

5 Questions with...

the gist
Greg Wise of THE GIST
www.thegisttheband.com

1. If I knew absolutely nothing about The Gist, how would you describe the group’s music to me?
-- The Gist is a 4 piece rock band with songs that range from funky to punky to poppy to rock. A cornucopia of influences drawn from each member truly stands out in each song. Take our dance song “F-Bomb”, for instance. Our bass player Yeti’s root in funk and drummer Trevor’s love of all things eighties set the foundation for Pete’s grunge melodies and my indie-esque playing style; all of which collide to create a sound that is, and I know this seems like a cop out, hard to describe. If you knew nothing of the Gist, I would have to describe us by pressing play.

2. If I were to buy your new EP, what songs should I pay particular attention to and why?
-- All of them. We have written many songs but the ones that make the cut are the ones that move us and we feel will move others. Although our song “Believe” has a groove and concept that people seem to relate to. This is why we have shot a music video for it that can be found on theGISTtheBand.com.
3. When and where did the band form, and where did the name come from? -- Before settling on members and the name The Gist, the band had gone through various players and names through the years, though Trevor and I have remained a constant, carrying the torch from incarnation to incarnation. Pete, the lead guitarist, and I were discussing how to approach a complicated transition in a song at practice one night when one of said to the other “well…you get the Gist.” We both looked at each other with a flash, but who said that it would be a great band name first is still a topic of great debate.
4. What was your worst on stage experience? What was your best?
-- At Area 7 many months ago, Pete’s amp head just went kaput. While he had his back turned to the audience trying to sort the situation out, I was compelled to regale the crowd with my rendition of the humpty dance. Another band’s guitarist brought his amp to the stage but Pete’s back was turned and even though I was screaming through the mic for him to turn around and grab it, he continued fiddling with his. Equipment failure is among my biggest fears just before a negative crowd reaction. Fortunately, I have had no equipment failures personally to date and nothing but an overwhelming positive response to the Gist.
There is no best time on stage. Every time is the best. Whether we are playing a bar, club or even an open mic, I always play as if tomorrow I may lose my hands in a freak poodle grooming accident. I believe part of the reason that we always have such a great crowd reaction is that the fun we are having doing what we do is transparent and infectious.
5. Do you think that the Internet (whether it be Internet radio, legal downloading, MySpace, streaming audio, etc.) is a good tool for musicians or is it a bad thing because it hinders profits?
-- At our stage of the game, even illegal downloading is a good tool. It is not about the money, it’s about getting our music and our name out there. Hopefully this will still be true once we are wading through piles of cash. Personally I cannot even imagine life prior to the dawn of the internet age. My grandpa always used to say “When I was young I used to have to walk 5 miles in the snow with no shoes to deliver my demo to the venues”. Forget about it.

First, we'd like to thank everyone who helped out, showed up, and rocked out for our video shoot. It was a tremendous success. The cast and crew was off the wall, the chain, and the hook. You all went above and beyond the call of duty. Have someone pat yourselves on the back, you deserve it.
