The new seach engine Cuil claims to have three times more pages indexed than Google and to show search results based on the relvancy of the content in a page as opposed to the number of pages that link to a page like Google does.
That would be nice and all, but a Dr. Powerful search on Cuil don't get you diddly. It actually gets you:
We didn't find any results for "dr. powerful"
On Google the same search gets you:
Personalized Results 1 - 10 of about 56,100,000 for dr. powerful.
I guess the score is Cuil = 0 and Google = 56.1 million.

Our pals at the Independent Weekly (or dare I say Pitchfork south?) have predicted our demise in tomorrow's epic boxing match with Transportation. Oh well. Hope you will try to make it out anyway.
Don't forget - This Thing We Did- August 9 will be kick ass and another opportunity for the Indy to give us a backhanded compliment or completely ignore us altogether!

Sanford, NC USA, June 26, 2008 - This Thing We Did (TTWD) 2008, a Lee County, NC music festival curated by Dr. Powerful, has added eastern hearts head north (Nashville, TN) to an already impressive lineup that includes Tooth (Durham, NC's finest), New Brutalism (the fabulous aluminum instrument weilding monsters from Knoxville, TN), and The Plaintiffs (Wilmington, NC's finest who will be warming up for their opening slot with Agent Orange!).
About TTWD 2008 This Thing We Did (TTWD) is an outdoor festival that will be held on August 9, 2008 at the Old Gilliam Mill Park outside of Sanford, NC. There will be bands playing on a stage that looks like the front porch of a shack, eastern nc barbecue, and the opportunity to camp out if you indulge in too much fun over the course of the day - the park has bathrooms, running water, etc. Bands are chosen completely based on the whims of Dr. Powerful. We expect this to be a wonderfully low key affair, so if you want to see some awesome bands in a unique setting, please come out and enjoy the day.
About Dr. Powerful Dr. Powerful is a global leader in providing counter productive workflow solutions to humans worldwide. With operational headquarters in Sanford, NC and a branch location in Greenville, NC, Dr. Powerful provides low fidelity music through a poorly dressed and undanceable platform.

This Thing We Did is a music festival that will be held in Lee County, North Carolina on August 9, 2008. It is being put on completely as a reason for Dr. Powerful to invite some of its favorite bands and people to come hang out on August 9 at the Old Gilliam Mill in Lee County, NC to enjoy some good rocking, barbecue of the eastern nc variety, and the experience of hearing/playing music at an old grist mill. Things should start at around noon on August 9, and they will run to the wee hours of the morning. Old Gilliam Mill has running water, bathrooms, etc., so feel free to camp overnight. This is private property, so just about anything goes.
Old Gilliam Mill is located on Highway 42 West of Sanford. The best way to get there is by going to Sanford and getting on US Highway 1 and then take Highway 42 West. The mill is about 5 miles outside of town and the first thing you will see is an old metal windmill on your right. Parking is in the lot under the windmill, and the actual mill/park is on your left.
We already have some awesome bands on tap including The Plaintiffs, New Brutalism, Tooth, and I guess we will play too. Keep checking the blog for more bands and details. This should be a fabulous disaster.
Lates.

Dr. Powerful gives back to the community
Sponsors Sanford Area Soccer League youth soccer team
Sanford, NC USA, April 25, 2008 – Dr. Powerful, the industry leader in creating angular, undanceable, and poorly dressed rock, announced today that it is sponsoring an under 8 (U8) team from the Sanford Area Soccer League. This strategic alliance will enable soccer playing youth in this central North Carolina town to don the coolest uniform on the planet.
"Giving our local youth the chance to wear a jersey emblazoned with our strong global brand is a priority for our organization," said Gordon Anderson, Executive Vice President, Strategic Marketing, Central North Carolina. "When I look at those other kids wearing insurance companies and septic tank service logos, I feel sort of sorry for them."
"We are particularly pleased that our brand will appear in many soccer photos that will be given to grandparents as presents," said Daniel Robinson, Chief Sustainability Officer. "Reaching baby boomers is where we really see a growth opportunity, and what better way to do this than to have our name draped over their grandkids in a picture frame on Christmas morning?"
"I am just glad the team is winning," said Andy Rouse, Chief Financial Officer. "We need to show a measurable return on our investment."
Eddie Watkins, Vice President of Business Development, was unavailable for comment, but it is rumored that he was able to broker this deal by claiming Dr. Powerful was a lawn mower company.

Dr. Powerful got some really awful news this weekend:Jared McGuinness, the singer and guitar player for one of our friend bands, Print, died on Jan. 24. We had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Print twice. The first time was on their home turf, at an art gallery in Brooklyn. It's safe to say they rocked my socks off like few others have. The second time was about 18 months later. We played a house show with them in Greenville when they were on tour this past September. I don't think I've ever seen a performance like that. It was insane, and it's something I'm always going to remember. People were flying all over the goddamn place. The fucking floor shook. I thought the house was going to come down. It was a sweaty, awesome mess. Print was a three piece rock band with two guitarists and a drummer. In that regard, they probably weren't reinventing the wheel, but to me that's not necessarily what makes music good or bad anyway. Print's songs were so frantic and crazy and noisy that it took you a minute to figure out what was going on. Once you did, though, it was like having the scales lifted from your eyes. It was hard to believe that a song could be simultaneously so cacophonious and also so precise and sharp. It was a cool contrast that made it easy for me to list them among the best bands I've ever seen live, much less played a show with. Jared's vocals over top of it all really finished things up for me: In songs like "Hunted, Haunted" and "Collecto," his screeches managed to convey a mix that, to me, seemed like anger and irony and confusion and hilarity. The same kind of thing I think we go for. It's weird, the friendships you make with other bands. I wouldn't say any of us in Dr. Powerful knew Jared or the other members of Print particularly well, but we did keep in touch a little. From our end, a lot of that was about what we feel is a lack of quality music, even in our little corner of the underground. Print stood out to me because they were doing something that I thought was really unique, cool, heartfelt, and fun. But we also kept in touch with them because all three of them were so cool to us when were in New York for the first time. There was none of the pretense or aloofness you see in a lot of rock bands these days. Instead, they were just cool guys rocking out. Sure, they weren't people we knew really, really well, but I think we all feel a little but unique bond with people in bands like Print and others that we've gotten to know over the past couple of years. So Jared's death hits hard for those reasons, and some others that are hard to articulate. He was a talented guy who died too early and it feels like bullshit that the only thing I can do is write this little note. It's not enough. I also wanted to post this to encourage anyone who hasn't heard Print to check them out. The remaining guitar player, Eugene, and their drummer (also named Jarod), have plans to release a final album that apparently had been recorded and was ready to go. They're also going to release a solo project that Jared had worked on. So if you haven't already, or want to again, you can check out Print here and Jared's solo project, The Blacks, here. Thanks for reading, Gordon/Dr. Powerful

Because I'm a completist, and also because I'm bored at work, I'm putting up a list of all our previous shows, you know, for posterity. I'll be updating as we add to it, I guess. Whatev. Maybe Daniel can finish it since he's not a totally worthless stooge. I've got access to most of the list, but there were a few shows which I don't quite remember that happened in the murky, nebulous days known as "our beginning" so if you know of something that belongs but isn't listed, holla at me/us.
3/25/05 - The Arts Center, Sanford NC w/ Ole, Fist Fight, Harmless PA, Thin Dark Line. We played this show as a 3 piece. G. Murray on guitar, D. Robinson on bass. All covers. No plans at that point to continue as a real band or anything.
5/30/05 - Westerwood Tavern, Greensboro NC w/ Ole, America is Waiting. We'd added Daniel Gillis on bass at this point, and D. Rob switched to guitar. Still mostly covers, two or three originals at this show. 6/23/05 - The Roxy, Sanford, NC. Hard to remember which other bands played, but it was a lot of fun. Our first time playing at one of Sanford's finest venues. UPDATE: We're told it was One Man Down and Harmless PA. Good times.
6/30/05 - The Roxy, Sanford, NC w/ Harmless PA and Gunnar Hansen's Anatomy Class. A return engagement with the (unrealized) promise of money. This show also featured an inordinate amount of red corn syrup. 7/1/05 - 42nd St. Tavern, Wilmington NC w/ The Needles, Fishnet Stalkers 7/28/05 - Kings Barcade, Raleigh NC w/ Harmless PA, Cities, The Quarantines 9/30/05 - The Old Mill, Sanford NC w/ The Citizen and Gunnar Hansen's Anatomy Class 10/2/05 - Local 506, Chapel Hill NC w/ Ahleuchatistas, Jett Rink, and Strange 10/24/05 - Local 506, Chapel Hill NC w/ Chachalaca 11/19/05 - Corndale House, Greensboro NC w/ The Citizen, Health 12/2/05 - The Roxy, Sanford NC w/ Thunderlip, Harmless PA, The Citizen

More to come soon: DR. POWERFUL This week, Murfreesboro’s Grand Palace Records issues one of the most solid releases available thus far on the small imprint: Daydripsnake, the full-length debut from Sanford, N.C.-based Dr. Powerful. Recalling many of the hallmarks of mid-’90s indie rock luminaries such as Unwound, Drive Like Jehu and, most notably, drummer Eddie Watkins’ old band Polvo, Dr. Powerful layer guitars and the occasional synthesizer into a sprawling mess of intricate melodies that seesaw between shrill dissonance and taut harmonies. But rather than simply replicate the successes of their drummer’s old band, the good Dr. manage not to sound dated by infusing a fair amount of pop sensibility into their jackhammer approach with unabashedly big choruses. —MATT SULLIVAN, The Nashville Scene Dr. Powerful - Daydipsnake Recorded by Jerry Kee at Duck-Kee Studio in Mebane, NC Dr. Powerful’s newest record Daydipsnake, released on the Murfreesboro, TN label Grand Palace Records, is a disjointed release with great potential. The group, comprised of G. Murray Anderson, E. Watkins, A. Rouse and D. Wayne Robinson, play in a vein that not only touches on the early Sub Pop and Touch and Go catalogs, but also delves into moments of math rock and jam band interplay. The record opens with two strong workouts in "Not Again," a track that spews fierce guitars catchy vocals into a captivating instrumental coda, and in "Gotta Get That Fixed," lined with dueling guitars and big, blow-up choruses. These tracks are sandwiched around the synth-led instrumental "Spaceship Syndrome," which could do much better as a B-side. The remainder of the album dabbles in the same ideas of the opening songs, but drops the precision guitar work in favor of sheer momentum. The early climax shows promise that will only come with maturity. For now, Daydipsnake presents the elements of what can make an engaging band in the future. The music’s sincerity is not to be denied and the raw talent shines through in the high paced instrumentation. (Grand Palace Records) —JASON JAMES, Performer MagazineDr. Powerful: goofy name, good rock band. The NC quartet features Eddie Watkins, drummer of Polvo, and has a driving, winding sound that evokes the indie tribes of its home state, as well as an occasional raw quality that once belonged to a subgenre we called emo. Like, in the ’80s. Time Out New York

Howdy folks! Dr. G. Murray Blanderson-Powerful here. Dr. Powerful news abounds. It's about that time. What time? That time, I says. Anyway, what I mean to say, what I really, really mean to say, is that the wait is finally almost over. What wait? THE wait, I says. The wait for our first official release, "Daydipsnake," which is coming out soon on Grand Palace Records. What do I mean by "almost" and "soon"? I mean that we should have it by AUGUST 20 or so. Which is good news, since we've got a string of three shows here, beginning on August 24, at which we were hoping to have copies of the record for your consumption. Looks like we will. We're playing in Durham (Aug. 24), Knoxville (Aug. 25), and Nashville (Aug. 26). All three of these shows we'll be playing with Arma Secreta from Memphis, who are like totally rocking. We can't wait. This will be lots of fun. If you've seen us in the past and liked what you heard, please come out. If you haven't seen us but have heard that our shows are awkward affairs filled with messy string-breakings and drunken 10-yard stares, please come out. If you're somehow finding out about us for the first time through this blog and think I write too much and would like to clobber my head, please come out. It's a good thing, also, that all of these shows appear to be at all-ages venues, except for Knoxville, which is 18+. I've written enough. Rock on! Oh, the record will look like this:

Dr. Powerful has been the subject of some talented writers recently and we wanted to share with you their work, both to showcase their awesomeness and to allow you to be able to read something about us that we didn't write ourselves. Read and enjoy!
Most recently, Nate Rau of the Murfreesboro (Tennessee) Pulse had some very kind words that you can check out here. Murfreesboro is the home of our label, Grand Palace Records.
Also, Ben Brown of the killer rock blogUsed Bin Forever! penned some very kind words about us, which you can read here.
Have fun with it! Whoop.
